Don Vito's Italian Restaurant - Diablo, bolognese Ziti and family tradition

The reason you would ultimately enjoy going to Don Vito's is for the owner, Barbara. She reminds me of my relatives from New York. When I'm there I know I'm eating at one of those good, family owned restaurants. When people travel to Daytona Beach, I'm not the only one to make a point to eat at Don Vito's to catch-up. They are not well staffed so plan ahead and make a reservation.

We wanted lasagna but they did not have any and we were at restaurant by 5:30. We ordered a pizza which took over 30 minutes to get. Once we got pizza all of the above was redeemed. It was deliciously made to order. We had far too much pizza left and it was wrapped up very well and not in a box because we were traveling and our server recognized a box is more awkward to handle. It was disappointing that we did not get to eat authentic Italian food that evening(I know pizza is Italian, but when you go to an authentic Italian restaurant that is not what I look for.) This restaurant was recommended on YouTube as one of the top 10 restaurants to try in Daytona. Trip Advisor also recommended. Based on my experience I would not recommend.

While the patio is nicely designed and has comfy wicker chairs, the parking lot traffic does take a bit from the ambiance. But hey, how often can I dine outside in Florida without dying of heat or mosquitos or drowning in a downpour. They had a ton of delicious specials going but I like to try places for the first time based on my favorite dishes. However, I can't pass up octopus carpaccio and while it was delicious, the slices stuck to the plate which the waiter attributed to being outside where it warmed up. Next time, calamari for sure! I got the fettuccine bolognese as I'm still chasing a sauce that isn't just ground beef added to marinara. I'm happy to say it's the best bolognaise I've found in Central Florida! Their pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was rich and not overly tomatoey or sweet like most places. It also was fully tossed so it clung to the noodles. Dad was in a pizza mood but was definitely temped by the veal chop special. He ended up with the all in pie and I knew it was a winner when he ate the crust. He's very picky about crust and this hit the mark on texture and taste! So yes, the love this group has for Don Giovanni is real and if you haven't tried it I definitely recommend it!

Nice sized loaf for the 2 of us. Candyce got the chicken parmesan and I got the Veal parmesan. Nice big pieces with a side pasta Alfredo super creamy and oh so good. Great service Great food. Nice location for dinner.

We've lived in the Daytona Beach area for almost 5 years and have driven by this restaurant…read moremultiple times. One weekday night we decided to try it out, and we're happy we did. First off, the restaurant is a lot larger inside than you would think seeing it from the outside. The colors are warm, the seating either bar, high tables, tables or booths. And, at the end of our dinner the restaurant was full, but it wasn't noisy. All of the staff were very friendly. We were promptly seated in one of the booths and perused the menu. We were offered a choice of bread or garlic bread. We opted for the garlic bread. Soft, warm, with just the right amount of garlic and butter. We started with the stuffed artichoke. I think we would have liked it better if the artichoke were a bit more "meaty." Most of the leaves were just breading with a sliver of artichoke. We were then brought our dinner salads. They were large. Lots of fresh ingredients. You could almost make a meal of just the salad. My husband had the lasagna which came with a meatball, and I had the Mario Combo which includes chicken parmesan and lasagna with a side of spaghetti. The servings were generous and hearty. The sauce very good. I judge Italian restaurants by their sauce, and this one was a nice thick blend of tomatoes and spices. What was interesting is that the spaghetti sauce seemed just a bit sweeter. We needed carryout containers for the leftovers and they packaged them very nicely. Took a star off for the stuffed artichoke which wasn't very flavorful. Also while the food was good, there was something almost sloppy about the presentation. Prices are about right, and you can get a discount if you sit at the bar or on the high tops... We'll come back again... we'll just make sure we're really hungry!

I am an avid fine diner and have had many experiences in Italian fine dining. As a party of 8, we booked two reservations of 4 due to the limited reservations online. No problem at all. As we arrived we requested to be seated near each other, as there were 4 top tables available next to each other. The host informed us that they did not want us interacting as it would disturb the vibe. To assume that we don't understand proper etiquette was a bit insulting. As we sat in the basement, it felt like we were getting seated for a church dinner. The fake stained glass and outdated carpeting was incredibly tacky, as well as the dirty piece of paper requesting restraint from cell phone use (as pictured). Other than the strange indoor decor, and the host demeaning our party, the food did not disappoint. We enjoyed the carpaccio, pasta, veal scallopine, lamb, and chocolate desserts. Everything was delicious. I was unaware when booking that they do not have a liquor license. I came to find out when I ordered an espresso martini. The wine list was decent and I decided upon an Amarone which was the perfect compliment to dinner. Overall, it was decent due to the food, but the vibe was very strange and didn't feel upscale whatsoever. Service was fine, nothing exceptional.
