Courtyard cafe entrance

What a hidden gem. And I do mean hidden. I've walked this block of Royal hundreds of times without knowing that the perfect spot for a light lunch, coffee, tea or pastry was tucked away in a peaceful courtyard just behind the front building of the Historic New Orleans Collection, which is worth a visit in its own right. I remember reading that the Carmo folks from Julia Street were opening here, but out of sight, out of mind. While visiting the museum yesterday, I finally took the opportunity to grab a quick lunch. The service was spot on. The Peruvian chicken meat pie with slaw was delicious. Great coffee & tea, too. The smell of hot cinnamon rolls coming from the oven have me wanting to return this morning!

Great cafe located inside of The Historic New Orleans Collection. Dining in the courtyard, friendly employees, good food. I stopped in as I was spending time exploring the collection and I was very happy to not have to go out to find something to eat. I had the white beans with rice, and yellow cake with chocolate icing. Everything was just lovely. I even got a lemon bar to go and the gal working kept it in the refrigerator until I was ready to leave to keep it cool. Great place to eat. And walk around the collection when you are done. You won't regret either choice.

After having some very indulgent meals while visiting New Orleans, I was craving a salad. I'm so glad I found Cafe Cour. I ordered the Habana Salad and added shrimp. They source their ingredients locally, in other words "Farm to Table". The salad was exactly what I needed, fresh and healthy. I was worried the habanero vinaigrette might be too spicy, but it had just the right amount of heat and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of shrimp. After enjoying a healthy lunch outside in the courtyard of The New Orleans Collection, I couldn't resist the delicious looking baked goods. I ordered the Chocolate Chicory Cookie. It was delicious, the chocolate chips were still slightly melted. Before leaving I visited the galleries on the 3rd floor of the New Orleans Collection. They have free admission!

Cafe Cour is the best kept secret in the Quarter. Their food is consistently excellent, and it's QUIET in the THNOC courtyard.

In the restaurant business, we all have a switch: once the doors open, it flips. Until then, you're seeing people exactly as they are. This team is genuine. Hands down. Yes, I know, I'm technically here for a king cake. Standing in line for a king cake from a famous fried chicken company almost feels satirical. But watching the entire team sit down together for a meal an hour before service told me everything I needed to know about the leadership and the values of this company. People matter here. You can see why the sandwiches are as good as they are. You can feel why the king cake is worth the wait. This team operates like a family; kind to one another, intentional, and connected. The food is made with care because the people are cared for. I'm not here to review the food (which is phenomenal) or the king cake. I'm here to review the brand. This is the kind of business we should be proud to support as a community. Keep it up.

I also like that they feature a daily special that isn't on the regular menu--it adds a nice element of variety. Everything is cooked to order, which is definitely a plus. Just keep in mind that most of the menu is fried, so this isn't the place to go if you're looking for a particularly healthy meal.

We arrived sans reservation, but were whisked straight into the courtyard -- arguably the best seat in the house on a pleasant Louisiana evening. Between the soft night air and the glow of the courtyard, the atmosphere alone deserved applause. The cocktails arrived first and immediately set a dangerously high standard: beautifully crafted, perfectly balanced, and the kind of drinks that make you consider canceling your plans afterward. Fortunately, the food rose to the occasion. The edamame and roasted Brussels sprouts disappeared with alarming speed, and the Amelie Salad was a standout -- generously portioned, fresh, vibrant, and substantial enough to be an entrée or ideal for sharing if you're pretending to be civilized. A special nod to Liz, who elevated the entire experience with spot-on recommendations, warm hospitality, and the rare ability to be both attentive and effortlessly relaxed. In a city famous for memorable dining, this meal still managed to feel special -- equal parts elegant, welcoming, and unmistakably New Orleans.

The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.

The restaurant was packed, and the staff was moving nonstop--but what really stood out was how smoothly everything was handled despite how busy it was. The food? Easily a 10/10. The chicken had that perfect balance--crispy and slightly spicy on the outside, yet unbelievably juicy and tender on the inside. You can tell real care goes into it. The greens were cooked just right with a subtle hint of spice that gave them great flavor, and the slaw had a light sweetness that complemented everything perfectly. Service was just as impressive. My server, Tashena, was attentive, friendly, and kept everything flowing without missing a beat, even in the rush. You could tell she genuinely cared about the experience. I also have to shout out the manager, Whitney. She was incredibly uplifting, constantly cheering on her team and keeping the energy positive and motivated. That kind of leadership really shows in the overall experience. Between the food, the service, and the atmosphere, I can confidently say this is a 1000/10 recommend. I'll definitely be back
