The Cafe Charmant is a visuals play.
It is probably the most artistically decorated cafe we encountered in Lyon, short of the great grand Art Deco of Brasserie Georges.
This is more intimate and more striking.
The motif is lush vegetation, painted on to an olive green background.
Green on green.
The vegetation swirls in every direction in graceful curls.
Cafe Charmant is in a not very charmant neighborhood, the immediate environs of Gare Oullins, a functional boxy modern train station with all the architectural beauty of a highway intersection.
The buildings around it are uninspired modern apartments or somewhat industrial looking offices.
In this grim suburban setting, Cafe Charmant is an oasis for the eyes and for the soul.
My suspicion is that the food is just as good as the decor,
