This is the "mother" of all cheese shops (see what I did there?). We have visited a number of times…read moreand they keep their cheese well, have a great selection, and are possibly the best in the market.
I'm partial to Comte, and they have a number of options, depending on your taste and price pain threshhold. For the local favourite St Marcellin, they ask when you'll eat it, and then poke several rounds to find one that will be perfectly ripe when you want it. They also do an excellent truffled Brillat-Savarin.
For me, this is a different experience to top cheese shops in Paris. There, if you only speak basic French, you are looked at somewhere between pity and disgust, and get the sense that they are only taking your money because they have to. Here, they were smiling and friendly, helpful about sizes, and proved that you don't need a lot of language skills to buy some amazing cheeses. Highly recommend!
