Here's the thing about Café Berlin: the service is great, the food sucks, and the location is convenient. We should have known better when the restaurant was pretty much empty, but we were greeted so well, we didn't have the heart to leave. The menu has an entire gluten free/vegan section, so we decided to try it out. The food is not good at all, overpriced and very cheesy, even though the dish didn't claim to have cheese. Eat at your discretion, that my two cents.

Feb 15 2025 review We reached there around 1:15 and were able to find a table very quickly. It has almost 7-10 tables of gathering inside and 5-6 tables. We got two items and portion size was really good for both of these. 1. Vegan Puerto Rico Mofongo- homemade plant base "ground" in criollo sauce with onions and green. 2. Criollo Tofu- organic tofu filets slowly cooked in criollo sauce served with native rice and tostones. Our waitress Joan did a really good job. I was going to order burger along with Mofongo but she suggested to go with Criollo Tofu and it blended really well with Mofongo. I really like the tomato based gravy of both items. We also got a regular latte and it was good. Please note that they do add 18% tip automatically. For us, it was $85 (tip included) for above these two items. Restroom was ok, could be managed better in terms of cleaniliness. So overall good experience if you are wanting to try the local cuisine.

I was so excited to come here because they have vegan/gluten free options. I can't speak on all of the dishes but the vegan/gf breakfast bowl was not good. Everything was underseasoned except for the potatoes. The tofu was bland and the spinach was wilted and not even cooked into the dish, just sadly sitting on the side with two lone cherry tomatoes. The avocado was hard and overall the meal just did not taste good. The location was good for exploring Old San Juan after and our server was really nice. But we waited well over an hour for our meals and mine was just bad.

This place was a gem! Amazing menu with local items and a little something for everyone! They also have an entire page of the menu dedicated to vegan options, it was so hard to choose! I had the Loaded Malanga Nachos! They were so unique and delicious. With adding their hot sauce/salsa, it was *chef's kiss*! We came back later as a break from the heat and shared a vegan coconut carrot cake that was SO good! Everything we saw pass by us was so beautifully plated. The service was great and the servers were so friendly and kind! Highly recommend!

Knowledgeable staff about gluten free and vegan options. Outdoor seating which was lovely and the server was excellent. I got the vegan pancakes which were tasty.

What a unique & traditional place I ran into. After making a new friend in old San Juan & having too much food for lunch we wanted to drink something cold. It was getting kinda hot outside ! So we ran into this cafe, I really loved the decor.especially the use of Red, so welcoming ! we didn't stay for a long time but had lots of laughs while sitting there & drinking my Virgin pina colada.

Always out go to spot when we have a visit to San Juan. Easy walk from the cruise pier. So friendly and loved having Marisol take care of us. The shrimp mofungo with garlic sauce was just sooo good. Again. Of course; always great cocktails to go with it all.

If you're even in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico be sure to stop in here for delicious food and friendly service! A very quaint spot, with big bright windows and warm ambiance. I'll definitely return to PR just to eat here again!

Our waiter was super nice! He was great. I had the vegan pancakes and my girlfriend had something I can't remember what but I'll attach the photo. It was nice to have some vegan breakfast options in the area! The pancakes were good, not amazing or anything. Just standard pancakes.

Vegan empanadas. That sauce is spicy and flavorful. We asked for more.

Café Berlin was such a great find. The food was amazing and the mojitos were just as good. We ordered from the vegan menu and everything was incredibly flavorful. The vegan mofongo was especially good, easily one of the best dishes we had in San Juan. Service was top notch from start to finish, which made the experience even better. We're already planning to come back for brunch.

Had a great experience with my family and so happy they had many vegan options for me! I had the vegan empanadas and the vegan mofongo which were both delicious. The place is nice, clean, and in a good location. The service was good and the owner came out to say hi and see how everything was.

Well good news, the food is still good! I stopped in during the festival of San Sebastian and the restaurant was packed! We luckily got a seat for two and were able to order right away. I order the mofongo de pollo and my friend ordered a different meal with a soup. I am not going to lie, the service was extremely slow and the food took about 30 to 40 mins maybe to come out. I expect this was because of the festival and how busy the restaurant was. When the food came out, it was delicious! The chicken was great and drenched in a salsa criolla sauce. It was definitely worth the wait! After my meal, I ordered a coffee to digest the food. Luckily this didn't take as long as the food. I would definitely recommend this place however if you are in a rush, it might be best to go somewhere else. The food is very tasty!

The restaurant is very small inside but they do have outside dining which is what we chose to do. The service was good, they were very attentive to our needs. Unfortunately, the appetizer we ordered was just awful. We ordered a mix of very traditional Puerto Rican bites-small alcapurrias, sorrullos, chicharrónes de pollo and some fried cheese. There was absolutely nothing good about the mix. The alcapurrias has no meat whatsoever, the chicharrónes were not crispy and the cheese was just awful. I wanted to give them a 1star review but I felt this would not be fair because we did not try an entree and I hope that would be better. The 3star was because the service was good. In addition to the service later on in the evening they had live music which was essentially old traditional Puerto Rican music which was excellent. So to be fair I thought a 3 star review would be the right thing to do. Hopefully the entrees are much better just stay away from the surtido appetizer because it was not good.

Review #1,046 Posted on 4.26.26…read more We came here on Thursday the 23rd while in San Juan area for my buddies 50th birthday. This spot we had seen on social media a ton for being famous for their Mallorca sandwich, a special type bread, we got the one with bacon & American cheese. Man, I made the mistake of doing the bacon instead of ham, overthought that deal. I tried my buddies with ham n cheese and I think that was way to go. I loved how this spot had that super old school feel of like a diner. You can sit at one of the table tops, or you can do the countertop too, which has tons of seats, we all were able to sit there. I'd 100% recommend this spot, but get the ham n cheese mallorca sandwich, don't overthink it.

After a few minutes, people started trickling down and soon the place was close to being full. I liked the mallorca with ham, bacon, cheese! It was delicious. They looked small but they were filling. The pastries displayed at the window were inviting. If you're dining in, you have to tell your server that you're getting some pastries that are on display then you ask the person at the counter who also serves as the cashier to get them for you. The guava pastry was good. The vanilla bread with strawberry and pineapple/lemon was okay. They looked better than they tasted in my opinion. Payment for everything would be at the cashier after dining. If you're in San Juan, this is a place to try!

It's located close to the cruise port area, making it an effortless stop if you're exploring Old San Juan. The vibe is straightforward and comfortable--think casual, sit-down seafood spot where you can relax, grab a drink, and not overthink the menu. It's not flashy or upscale, but that's part of the appeal. Just friendly service, cold drinks, and solid food. Service * Very friendly and welcoming * Easy walk-in experience * Relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere Food & Drinks * Standard beers and cocktails--perfect for a mid-day refresher * Seafood Fried Platter - especially the fried cod; crispy, flavorful, and well-executed * Tacos (Fried Shrimp & Fried Cod) - the standout; fresh, generous portions with crunchy slaw and spot-on sauce The tacos were the surprise hit--bright, crispy, and packed with flavor. Exactly what you want from a Puerto Rican seafood lunch. Verdict Cayo Caribe is a dependable, casual seafood stop near the port.
