I set out one evening to dine a highly recommended Barcelona restaurant recently, and the service…read morein that place (which shall remain nameless) was so horrendous that we cut our meal short and used Yelp to find a different restaurant. It led us to Mondoré, which turned out to be a complete and total gem. We loved every aspect of our dining experience here. The food was delicious and completely unique, the ambiance relaxed and welcoming, and the service was impeccable. Tip: The first thing that struck me after we were seated was the fact that Mondoré has an extensive selection of craft and Belgian beers; it's good when you don't have to go thirsty ;-) After a decent interval (not too long, but long enough for us to get settled and enjoy our drinks) our food was served family style so we could share. Everything was beautifully plated and presented, and all the dishes were slow cooked and perfect seasoned. That last goes triple for the ribs we ordered, which were fall-off-the-bone tender. The other dishes we ordered were the Patatas Bravas, the Veal Cheek, and the hake with fresh vegetables and squid ink rice. My personal favorite dish of the evening was the Veal Cheek. All the ingredients used here are obviously fresh, and our server was wonderfully attentive without being too obtrusive. Bottom line: Mondoré is perfect for a casual lunch or dinner, and it looks to be an excellent place to go with a group as well. I look forward to returning.

We didn't o see the octopus and I can remember if they have it on the menu. Though there are plenty of "stables" to choose from.

All of the wines by the glass can be tasted in flights or just by the glass. We got deep into the list by having a red and white pairing and by trying 2 of the cavas. We learned of the flights after ordering the cavas. Needless to say we drank a good amount. Our sever Marie was so knowledgeable about the Spanish grapes and growing regions. As a Dutch ex pat she was so interesting to talk to and with. Not only did we talk about wine but also urban planning and social issues in our hike countries. One doesn't always get that with wine. The menu is extremely creative and also set up to be eaten as bites or shares and are paired with the wines. Be sure to try the foie gras and the short ribs. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious. If we didn't have a dinner reservation we would have eaten a lot more. The space is so lovely, modern, well lit and inviting. Any of the bottles on their wine list can be purchased as a discount, so of course we did. Highly recommend.

Though I don't think it is possible to go wrong with any of the brunch wine pairing! They all look amazing and I can't wait to come back and try a new pairing. Lastly, I am usually more of an introvert in a public place, but I was fascinated by the origin story of La Catalista. If you get a moment to talk to the owner, do it! There are life lessons that are as inspiring as the wine.

Starting out, speaking with the hostess, Karen. Being in the restaurant business for many years,…read moreshe is one of the top hostesses I have ever worked with or have seen in other restaurants. Under extreme pressure, she did an outstanding job! They are very lucky to have her in that front of the house position. Wait staff very good, food was outstanding. We walked in mid day got seated though they weren't may spots available it was almost full. The staff was courteous to begin with. Took care of our stroller and welcomed us. We ordered a bit of everything from shrimp on bread, crab/shrimp on toast to their calamari which was super moist and flavorful. We also ordered the steak on toast which was bursting of flavors and cooked to perfection. My favorite was their fried eggs on patatas and crab. Just check the portions before orderding as most are small plates. The place itself was lively and vibrant. The food was a full 10. The food came out quick and service was fantastic we also got pics with the staff they were so friendly. The pricing is perfect not overly pricey. Definitely a must visit when in Barcelona.
