I am ABSOLUTELY LOVING the fact that Surrey is shedding it's banker belt, geriatric image, full of…read moresoulless national chains, poor food, and independent stores that have seen better days. G!ro cycles is a new cafe on the edge of Esher's high street that combines the quintessential coffee + cycle. The atmosphere is busy and full of cyclists finishing group rides when we head in on a Sunday mid morning. Coffee here is served by trained baristas and matches the quality and standard of other independent coffee shops in the area. At the rear is a bike shop teeming with independent bike gear, unlike your chain stores in Guildford and Chertsey. Service is friendly even when time is short and the baristas are well trained and pump out drinks briskly and with ease. Coffee is provided by a local roaster, Beanberry, and is of fine quality. Overall, a great experience. Time to find work from home days so that I can head over and work from this awesome place.

Don't be fooled by the lack of reviews. This place is buzzing. It's honestly a standard cafe size but it becomes packed quickly after a cycling event, before lunch time on the weekends, or right after work. They're menu is predominantly health focused which means you get an array of hip smoothies, oatmeal on the go, and avocado toast. I'm honestly the biggest fan of their coffee. Being a coffee fanatic, I get picky but Giro's is strong and delicious. They also have a diverse list of milk alternatives which is always a plus. I can't speak for how they make cappuccinos or lattes but their Americanos are great. The staff are polite and friendly but they do have a tendency to blast AC during the summer months so go with a cardigan. They have a mini cycling shop at the back of the cafe which is cool to peak at if you're bored from working on your laptop.

Occasionally, I pop into Epsom town before work to go to the bank or get some essentials. In return…read morefor dragging myself out of bed early, I usually spoil myself with a hot breakfast. My Chinese Thrift Gene (CTG) had been pushing me in the direction of McMuffin meals at the McDonalds on the 1st floor of The Ashley Centre. However, I had always smelt lovely smells coming from the breakfast bar section of Moka, a cafe located in the sunny central atrium on the ground floor. So, one day, my Chinese Quality Gene (GQC) overrode the CTG and I ordered myself an egg and sausage bap. My CQG was on a roll when it spotted a machine for automatically squeezing oranges and I paired my bap with a large glass of freshly squeezed OJ. Well, the bap arrived with a generous amount of sausage and the egg was perfect with a gooey yolk. I had mine with brown sauce and like any good bap, there was a degree of goodness squishing out of the bap with every delicious mouthful. The fresh OJ was perfect to wash down the calories and make the meal feel vaguely healthy! I'm afraid the GCQ wlll trump the CTG in the future and I shall descend that extra floor for my Moka breakfast bap

Sandwiches have generous fillings in a large range and reasonably priced. Our grandchildren enjoy their genuine Portuguese Pasta del nata (custard tarts) with a 'baby chino'. Lovely breakfast baps. The staff are friendly and service is efficient. I agree with Alex M's review that the outside cafe - Moka - is expensive with a slow service. Strange, as I think both cafes are owned by the same people.

So that is why I have just dragged my weary legs off to Hampton Court Sandwich and Coffee Company, and inhaled a piping hot parma ham and mozzarella panini which was the culinary equivalent of a defibrillator bringing me back to life. I like coming here because the paninis are marginally cheaper than the other sandwich shops. I also occasionally treat myself to the brownies here - large gooey, sticky slices of dense dark chocolate heaven. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and like the other coffee shops in this road, this is a stones throw from Hampton Court palace, so a perfect place to recharge your batteries.

The staff greeting us quickly and the toasted sandwiches here were awesome! Generally, I don't see much difference between a toasted sandwich at a deli and one I can make myself with my generic ex-boxer-branded grilling machine. Maybe it was the panini, maybe it was the feel of the deli with its wooden floors and health and rural vibe. Maybe it was the healthy fruit smoothie made on sight. Whatever it was, I ended up really enjoying my experience here and will be back if ever passing through again. Aside from the food we had, this establishment also has a very organic looking deli for fruit and veg which has a feel of an authentic farmers market. We didn't purchase anything as I wasn't in the market for vegetables at the time but it is a neat extra feature that will attract customers.
