The prices have always been a tad high compared to some other places, but they make up for it with much better quality than some spots like Anita or Amorino, which I find cloyingly sweet in both instances. Aside from the price, my only other issue is that most of their flavors rotate pretty constantly, and some of my favorites aren't always available. My preference here is their granita, a semi-frozen sorbet, which was originally $7 or so several years ago, and has now gone up to $9.90. From what I recall, the portion size does seem bigger, but I might be mistaken. I prefer their Granita di Chinotto, with the "chinotto" referring to a bittersweet flavor made from myrtle orange. If you've had Campari (or its fancier, better cousin CioCiaro), or similar bittersweet orange (such as with the peel but more citrusy), the flavor is somewhat similar. When available, I pair it with their Granita di (or rather al) Caffè, or coffee granita. It makes a perfect summer treat.

According to Google, "the name Cassata derives from the Arabic word qas'ah," which refers to the wide basin used to mix the ingredients. Gelateria Gentile's website states that Cassata Gelato's ingredients are: ricotta, candied fruits, pistachios and dark chocolate chips. It was delicious. My favorite gelato flavor in any gelato brand used to be hazelnut until I tried the Cassata at Gelateria Gentile. Myra gave me a sample before purchase, and she was a joy to talk to. She served me the gelato using two cones: one cup-shaped (a Cestino Cone) and a baby cone (see photo below). The presentation was innovative. The interior of the shop has many tables where customers can sit and enjoy their gelato. I highly recommend Gelateria Gentile. If you are ever on the UWS, be sure to stop by and treat yourself.
