Chocolate fondant with cinnamon ice cream and whipping cream
Jessica C.

We passed this place while on tram 9 many times. I don't know why, but I just knew we had to go there. There may have been a special for 5 € on Wednesdays that I wanted to check out...and in case you are interested, it's 9 € for all pizzas on Mondays. So, we went on a Wednesday to have a quiet evening. We had a very good server, who gave us advice and was overall very friendly (We always appreciate this!) Honestly we weren't expecting too much. It's just another cafe/pizzeria right? WRONG! We took a bite of our Margherita Pizza and we just looked at each other. If nothing else, go here for pizza. Seriously. We also got fries to snack on, while Sean thought they were okay, I loved them! You can definitely split a pizza between two people. It will give you just enough room for dessert! On the English menu there is a fondant cake. Think of it as a chocolate lava cake, but not as gooey. This was delicious. It was served with cinnamon ice cream (which really needs to make an appearance in the U.S.), whipping cream, and an apple sauce. You can share this...we didn't! Sean got the 3 scoops of sorbet and loved that too. We were expecting an okay dinner but were blown away. Service could be hit or miss (our first server was fine, but the second who we had after the initial meeting, was awesome). Definitely give this place a try if you are in the East (Oost)!

The American BBQ Pizza @ Caffe Milo
Shannon M.

I went with a couple who dines here regularly and I can definitely see why they do! The nachos with chutney were a tasty starter and there was enough for all of us to have a good amount. I ordered the American BBQ pizza with pork fat, bbq sauce, and an egg - it was beautiful to look at and even better to eat. My friends got a burger and a salad, both of which were happy with their choices. The beer selection was great and outdoor seating was cozy. Being right by the tram stop, it's convenient location makes it a perfect place to return to whenever I am back in Amsterdam.

Best onions and meat ever!

If we hadn't gotten up and left, we'd still be waiting for a menu. Restaurant was nearly empty. Bad feeling when you are ignored.

I had an amazing burger from this place with caramelized onions. Highly recommend you try the burger. The fresh squeezed OJ is good as well.

During my favorite visits, the bartenders explain each drink you order as they serve it and tell you the story. Every drink has a story. Sometimes they are busy or not interested and you don't get the story. I wouldn't have noticed that the drink tastes like a salad, and not in the bad way, had the bartender not told me the story. A couple of times I asked if they have merch for sale and one time they had pins which I bought. The next time I came, they were out of both pins and shirts. Bummer. I recommend a visit when you're looking for a cool place in Amsterdam, especially when you are staying at the hotel.

The decor was very nice as well. I didn't try any food there. Now it comes to the important part of the review. It's all about the cocktails. I got the Beeswax Old Fashioned(17 Euros). It was very good and a nice twist on an old fashioned. My second drink was the Paradiso Manhattan(17 Euros) and it was a tasty cocktail with something extra. It came with a piece of chocolate that was made with mushroom powder. They paired well together. I can't give it five stars for one reason. The drinks were very good, but they were a little weak. I felt very little to nothing after my second drink. I'm not a big drinker and I have a low tolerance for alcohol. The drinks need to be a little stronger. More of a kick to them. I would still recommend Super Lyan to anyone that has the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam on holiday.

At most of my favourite cocktail bars the cocktails are very expensive and Henry's is just a bit cheaper: nice! The cocktails are also delicious and come in generous amounts, without that much ice (I hate it when a cocktails has way too much ice!). So very yummy and a good price. There are also many other drinks and nice wines, shots so there is something here for everyone. Henry's also quite a few has snacks and bites. We had the veggies with dips, which was a nice, fresh and healthy choice. The staff at this place is very friendly and happy, I really liked them. The whole place looks so nice as well. The cute vintage chairs and little tables, the big couches. Great place for sitting, drinking and chatting with friends. You can also sit on the terrace if the weather is nice, but I prefer to sit inside because of the pretty interior (and the cool wall art!). The photos I took of this place were made on a weekday afternoon when Henry's was not open, so you cant really see how nice and cosy it is by night. I think this might be my new favourite place! Also, if you're getting tired of cocktails you can just go to Bar Bukowski, which is also super fun. Remember: Henry's is only open on Friday and Saturday nights.

I've been to many of the cocktail bars in Amsterdam and please allow me to explain why I like this place over the others. It IS why you are reading this review now, toch?! Simply put, this place takes out the super fancy smancy egg white foamy flamed distilled in diamond barrels Himalayan berry extract bio purple cucumber drinks and instead sticks with the classics. Moscow Mule, Dark and Stormy, Hugo, and so on and so forth. The place and people are humble, gezellig and I feel like it's a place to just chill and drink some highly alcoholic drinks! No need to wear a tight mini skirt, make a special VIP reservation just to get in; no, just walk on in and ask your friendly bartenders, with stylish leather aprons, to help enhance your night with a nice mixed drink. And when you take away all the smoke and curtains, you can expect better prices! I never paid more than 7.50 for a cocktail that actually had more drink in it than ice. Vesper Bar used to be my fave Amsterdam cock-joint, but I'm afraid I've fallen in love when a man named Henrrrrry! Oh and the bartender with the Amsterdam XXX symbol on is right bicep is hipster hot. We were exploring Amsterdam all day and really needed a drink! 20,000+ steps will do that to you…read more A friend visited Tales and Spirits a few years ago and recommended we go there if we had the chance. Apple Maps told me we were less than 1/2 mile away so we headed over there. Located just off a canal on a pedestrian walkway basically at the start of the Red Light District, we arrived soon after they opened and got a nice table near the bar. Forget ordering what you usually drink- the menu has dozens of concoctions most of which looked real good. I ordered a "T&S Old Fashion and my wife had "The Girl Next Door". Both were drink types we usually don't order but we loved them enough to order another round. Speaking of the menu-it's pretty entertaining besides all the drink choices. Also entertaining was watching the bartenders making the drinks with a huge flair of showmanship. Music tracks were great as well. Could have just stayed to listen to the music. The food options looked tasty as well but we were still full from lunch so we just opted to drink. By the time we left, Tales was pretty full. A fun place to come back to and recommend to friends.

The place was small but adds to the charm. Nice decor and friendly service. We each had 2 cocktails and split an order of Bitterballen and Truffle Risotto. I would definitely recommend for a cocktail before/after dinner or if you're looking for some appetizers/small plates. Great spot.

Carlota who answered the doorbell, was able to accommodate us at the bar (our preferred seating anyway). She took our coats, placed them in the coat closet up front and led us inside. Once seated, we were given gorgeous ruby red complimentary aperitif (hibiscus, honey, ginger). The drink menu is interesting, based on the concept of growing up, with more basic tastes to start and more mature complex tastes later on in life. (The drinks are more complex the later in the menu). I ordered the Awake at Last, and my husband ordered the Ruby Stone. Mine was sweet and coffee flavored and his was more tart and sour cherry flavored. When I tried his drink, I immediately felt nostalgic because it reminded me of umeboshi (pickled plum in Japanese food), so we ended up trading drinks. Both were great for supping. Sitting at the bar was fun, watching the bartender at his work. He was silent, focused, skilled, professional. So glad we checked it out! I didn't post pictures of the entrance or inside because I'll leave it to you to discover! (The fun of a speakeasy).

Both were delicious! Meanwhile, we chatted with Iago the bartender, and Lily the manager. We learned more about Amsterdam and why so many people come here from elsewhere in Europe to work. Iago was super fun to talk to. He'd lived in Amsterdam for 7 years and It was only his first week here at NJoy. He was skilled as a bartender, being able to mix fabulous cocktails and also hold an interesting conversation at the same time. We'd go back just to be able to talk with him again, such a friendly bartender, very attentive, and professional. The beef bitterballen was so hot we had to wait a bit to try it. It comes with savory mustard that is better than any mustard I've tried before. Not sure why. The bitterballen were crispy fried with beef ragú inside. I'm not a fan myself but am glad I tried it. These included the Flying Dutchmen -- their signature cocktail -- and the Umami Margarita. I was a bit hesitant about the Dutchmen because it was with gin and orange, but I liked it a lot. The margarita was unusual with some mushroom dust on the rim. Our server was very friendly and helpful.
