We have been using yelp a ton lately to help find gluten free friendly rplaces and today it led us to Cafe Yumm. I enjoyed the decor, love the colors but I really appreciated the help when I had specific questions regarding ingredients- the young man at the counter pulled out a book with all the ingredients listed and helped me make my choice without making me feel dumb or like a pest (I'm very new to this gluten free business and I'm still really nervous about eating at restaurants). Once I got my food (the spicy yumm jazzy bowl I think it was called), I was really impressed, the flavors combined perfectly and everything tasted fresh and amazing. This place was recommended to Allison and myself before moving to Corvallis. We've frequented this place over the past 6 months and really have never been WOWED! So we do not write this review to "hate on" Cafe Yumm (and their Yumm Bowl). However, everything is merely OKAY. The concept is great, but the actual execution falls from the expectations on a regular basis. This was tasty and the vegetarian options were a bonus, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I could have prepared it at home for a lot cheaper. The exceptions were the tofu and tempeh, which were excellent and which would have been difficult to just whip up all crispy and wonderful at home. Overall good flavors and lots of options. This restaurant has pretty decent food. It is a very common spot as it is very close to campus. The line is often very long but are usually moves quickly and you're able to receive your food quickly. There's an upstairs and downstairs seating area but usually it is packed to the number of students that come and visit. The food does taste very fresh and the workers are very knowledgeable about what might be able to best fit your tastes and preferences. If you go during the slow time of day, I would highly recommend just sitting in taking in the atmosphere which is very friendly. I ordered a ball and I do believe that they should have been able to increase the amount of food that was in the ball to become more full without having to increase the price to get the much larger portion size. This place is awesome! I often work long hours in the day, making it hard to always find time to cook dinner, so when I have one of these busy days, I frequently zip by Cafe Yumm and order my favourite--the edamame bowl. The sauce is awesome. I understand people have different tastes, but some of the reviewers' posts about the sauce and the food in general are just so negative, it almost hurts my feelings to read them, and I am not even the business owner! I guess it is because I really love this place, and I think they make great food, plus the staff is always so nice, and the owner himself is such a kind person. It pains me to see the really negative reviews, because really, this place is great. There are so many delicious vegetarian options to choose from, and that is wonderful since I am a vegetarian! Back to the sauce--a friend of mine who visits from Maine loves it so much that he makes his own version of it at home. He says its close, but not as good as Cafe Yumm's :) I also want to praise their awesome cookies. I LOVE the ginger cookie. I will often pop into Cafe Yumm just for one of those. They also have cookies dipped in chocolate--so good! Some people complained about the prices. I find the prices really reasonable. I get a nice, filling meal for $6.95 (price of large bowl) That doesn't seem overpriced to me at all. One other nice thing is that sometimes they have interesting radio stations on, and I have learnt of some great music artists just by listening to what is playing in the background. Or I have pleasantly heard some songs that I had not heard in years (one by Howard Jones comes to mind---so nostalgic!) I love my Cafe Yumm bowl nights. I almost look forward to my busy days so I can have an excuse to order Cafe Yumm. :) :) Great restaurant. Great food. I think this place is just ok. It was my first time here and I tried the Yumm Baby bowl. I ordered a large, but the portions are pretty small, mostly because it consisted of mainly rice. The yumm sauce was really good with added sriracha. The service was good and the cashier was friendly. But, overall I think the food is average and would probably only come back if I was craving something similar to what they serve. read more

So I don't like giving places a 1 star, but for Cafe Yumm, I really want to. I've been dying to give this place a review for some time now. My hesitation is based on what shock I still have for putting their food in my mouth. I'm being honest in the fact that Cafe Yumm is a place I love to tell stories about to my friends because the food is just that horrible and I believe everyone has the right to good eats for the right amount of money. I went here with my sister a little bit ago and I admit that I was the one that suggested it. The atmosphere seemed cool and I liked their logo (it looks so..happy) so we decided to go. We both ordered their chicken teriyaki skewers, which I remember being an expensive item on their menu since it was one of the few that had meat. We drove home, starving, and couldn't wait to open the little brown boxes to dig in. Firstly, the chicken was completely stuck on the skewer and hard. The only thing preventing the inside from being obscenely dry was their overly sour teriyaki sauce. The sauce had no resemblance to any teriyaki on this planet; sour and bland at the same time. I couldn't believe it, so I kept eating, poking around the box for some veggies and rice. Of course, the rice was under cooked (to the point where my Asian self didn't even want to eat it). I remember turning to my sister and asking her if she liked it. She hated it too and stopped eating it. I wanted to give it a chance, but there was not a single piece of grub in that box that would suffice as edible, tasty, or yummy to the human being. We didn't like the food so much that we threw it away (shocking for the price we paid and how we hate wasting "food") and made Top Ramen (the only food in our empty apartment). Fail. We vowed never to go to Cafe Yumm ever again. Shockingly enough, I found myself sitting at Cafe Yumm's tables with a mentor of mine that had urged me to go. I tried her everyday choice: the Original Yumm! Bowl. Their sauce is really sad you guys. They call it their signature sauce and it tastes like a simple mayonnaise/spices concoction you can make at home for fish sticks. My mentor slurried everything together saying, "It looks bad, but it tastes pretty good." I did the same and didn't find anything great about it; just a pool of fatty sauce with no great flavor, cheap salsa, and more under cooked rice. Guys, please don't go here in search of an innovative dining experience. It's a place that serves food that doesn't make any sense. I see Japanese, Hispanic, and American ingredients all mixed together like it's nobody's business. I'm sorry, but olives, tomato salsa, and a sour miso dressing do not go together. There's no passion in the food, no flavor, no YUMM. If you want to support local business in Corvallis and (actually) have a healthy, delicious meal, go to Laughing Planet Cafe. I like that they use some organic and locally grown ingredients. The location is convenient and I can usually find parking right out front. The chilean zucchini bowl and the smoky yumm bowl are my favorite, they have a great mix of flavors. I give it four instead of five stars because there are mistakes made at times, but any time the order has come out wrong the manager has been super helpful and friendly. I'm into the simplicity of Cafe Yumm. The smoky bowl and hot 'n jazzy are amazing, and if you get a vegan bowl they'll substitute the dairy for extra avocado or veggies. The small is a perfect portion size for me to finish in one sitting, and it's quick and healthy. I also love the bbq tofu skewers. Five stars on the food, three stars on the service. The line was nearly out the door at 12:30 pm on a Thursday and I placed my order "for here" and since it appeared there might be seating upstairs & I'd never been to this location before, I asked if there was seating upstairs (I had seen a Yumm employee ascend and descend the stairs but it could've been storage up there & there was no obvious signage.) The gentleman taking my order actually sent someone up there to see if there were seats available, misunderstanding the nature of my inquiry and holding up the line. When the girl indicated no open seats, the man (in some weird-ass twisted logic) insisted on making my order "to go" and told me if I found a seat, I could just sit there. During the rush hour wait for my food, a couple of seats opened while I waited but since I didn't have a table-side number placard to indicate I would be sitting there (like everyone else got), I lost out. I'm a particular eater and the to-go bowls are annoying. So annoying in fact this was the first time I've had to eat out of one despite dozens of to-go orders. (I usually take my order home and mix everything into a larger vessel but since this is about 40 miles from home, I was stuck living with his weird choices.) There's also the wasted resources to consider. Rather than giving me a ceramic bowl & plastic cup like I had wanted for my "for here" order, he wasted the disposable options unnecessarily. Bad call, dude - not exactly a great step in improving the world by wasting resources. The large original bowl still gets 5 stars even though every 20th bean was almost rock-hard. The flavors, textures and quality of everything else was totally spot-on. Next time I will absolutely insist on my order being placed the way I want it. And I see that guy again, I might kick him in the shin! read more

Cafe Yumm has pretty good food, although I think the portions are small for the price (I mean, rice and beans is supposed to be a super cheap meal when you make it at home). However, today they did something that wasn't so nice. They had published coupons for OSU students stating that they would offer a free small yumm bowl to try on both October 16th & November 20th from 5pm to 9pm (a nice gesture). Well, tonight (October 16th) at 8:35pm when my husband and I went to use the coupon, they were closed! Apparently, they had been closed since 8pm! While sitting there discussing where to go and get food, we saw at LEAST 12-15 other people (looked like students to me) trying to get in the doors within just a few minutes. Cafe Yumm had put a sign on the door saying the offer was also valid on November 20th. Well, yeah. People can read the coupon, man. However, we planned on going there tonight! This was a really sad disappointment for my husband and me. After hitting BK, we drove by and saw another two girls trying to get in right around 9pm. I think this was a really bad example of service. I mean, I realize this was a freebie promotion, but if you advertise it until 9pm, you shouldn't suddenly close at 8pm. That seems wrong to me and, considering how many people we saw trying the door and looking sad/annoyed, this is not going to reflect well on the local cafe yumm. read more

if you get your order to go, i highly, HIGHLY recommend checking everything before you leave. up until recently i'd eat here every 3 weeks with my order being wrong easily 50% of the time. the most common mistake is getting chicken instead of tofu on a wrap, not easily seen upon a quick bag check at the counter. upon returning home & really opening things up, SURPRISE! i've even had them get it wrong TWICE on the same order. they nearly always forget the chips with a yumm & greens & every time except for twice have forgotten the teriyaki sauce for the tempeh skewer. the person taking the order nearly always nails it correctly, but the kitchen person can't seem to follow simple food filling directions. the accuracy coming from the kitchen is poor enough on regular enough basis that i think i've finally had enough. the cashier & the people waiting in line behind me do not appreciate it when i ask them to empty everything from the bag to double check their performance, nor should i have to do that-it's their JOB. when i order food, i should expect to get what i asked for, i shouldn't have to babysit the kitchen staff like a kindergarten teacher. read more
