It is so refreshing to have a decent eatery on Bedfont High Street, that isn't a Fast food joint. It has an alcohol license, so is always buzzing. Cafe "Prazeres" is not the most attractive coffee shop or Deli I have been to but it bristles with life and the energy of the local Portuguese community. It's a real family business with different generations from the same families just hanging out enjoying life together. It's the type of place where they would soon get to know your name if you lived nearby and you would feel part of the furniture quickly. They are very proud of their coffee if you ask them about it and they are right to be - its excellent. They also have a very limited range of cakes but their freshness and taste, again, make them excellent. You can sit outside although there isnt much to look at, its on the corner of a pretty normal suburban street or go inside and spend some time looking at the myriad Portuguese products on sale ranging from dried milk to Portuguese newspapers.

Must be at least 90% portuguese customers who only seem to speak in portuguese,except for school children's parents and Builders from site over the road. Even television only shows portuguese programmes. Customers so they say come from as far as Brighton, but none are local. It gets very noisy at weekends as they sell alcohol & some customers seem to get a bit tipsy. Coffee is good though.
