Firstly, I phoned on a Saturday about 5pm tp book a reservation for a large party of possibly 30 people, and wanted to be sure they could accommodate a party of that size. I was answered by an automated message that thy were too busy to take my call, to leave a message and my number, so I did- no big deal; however there was NO call back until the following Tues. afternoon, certainly not a great start. By this time the party number had decreased to 20, and they said they had no problems in accommodating all 20. I enquired about their Gluten Free menu as I knew at least two of our party had gluten allergies and was told all food items were gluten free, but there would be cross contamination on the grill, again not great, Any restaurant that advertises as having a gluten free menu should have a COMPLETELY gluten free zone to prepare such items so that there is no "cross contamination". When we arrived, I as a wheelchair dependent individual could not access to restaurant because of a large step at the door, although there is no signage that the restaurant IS wheelchair accessible, it should be wheelchair accessible without the person being lifted, or having to get out of their wheelchair and step up themselves to enter the business, (Strike 2). Next we found that they could not, in fact accommodate 20 people as a whole group 6 seats were reserved at a separate table, (Strike 3). Strike 4 was the filthiness of the place, there was a dirty, greasy scum over every surface , even the walls- use some decent soap and hot water sometime! Strike 5 was that more than half of the dishes offered were sold out. Strike 6 was the food itself, I have an allergy to anything prepared with fresh onion of any kind, and I don't like spicy, which in Mexico, they accommodate very well, here at cafe verde, every meat was prepared with onion, the waitr staff could not seem to comprehend the NO ONION, in any way! I was about to go hungry when one of the staff members stepped up to say the birria tacos were not prepared with onion and were not spicy, had no chilies, so that is what I got- WRONG, not only was it prepared with chilies, at least 3 KINDS if chilies, according to online recipes, and it was unpleasantly spicy, but the allergic reaction I had for the next three days proved there had been onion used in it's preparation. There MUST be and education of the wait staff on the full preparation of ALL dished so that they are aware of what goes in to each and every dish. There should also be a written ingredient list for patrons to view so things of this kind DO NOT HAPPEN! read more

Over the past bit I've eaten at nearly every Mexican restaurant in southern Alberta and there are some really solid options. But I had to come back here 3 times, and bring a second opinion. Because of how much better Cafe Verde was from the others, it was throwing me off. Not even taking how inexpensive it is or how friendly they are into account the food is that much better. ! What a Hidden Gem! The food here while maybe not the most traditional food in the world, is really really quite good. Prices are very reasonable, and if you're looking for relatively authentic Mexican food this place is your One-Stop shop in Lethbridge. Ok, I'm from California and was told this place would rival the restaurants there. Well, not a good start... Out of guacamole? What!? I had the beef burrito. Meh! It was just ok, but also I am not used to the prices here yet! $43 for a burrito 1 small drink and Nachos?!!! I would have paid $25 back home but besides that, the ambience was good and my wife enjoyed the nachos. I really wanted to like this place more. Lastly, to put it all together, the guy behind the counter wasn't very friendly. Dear fellow Yelpers, I deleted my last review of this place Becuase I only gave it a half star. Kevin Tait told me that user error shouldn't count, I don't do well with spice and i thought it would be a good idea to get Chilé lime sauce (which had 2 fire emojis by the way). Well to my dismay it was damn near intolerable as my eyes watered, my throat had fire ants and my mouth felt as if I had drank gasoline and lit a match inside it. So my mistake led to me giving this place a piss poor review. Therefore i retract my statement and give this place a 5 star rating because Cafe Verde meets all criteria of a great food place: 1. Clean Bathroom in which the toilet is at a great and comfortable sitting height. 2. Friendly local buisness with workers who genuinely look like they know how spicy the food is. 3. Food which is prepared in such a way that the texture arouses my cheeks. 4. GREAT FOOD. Well done me amigõs, see you soon. read more

This place is way overpriced. The food was acceptable, the churros delicious, but $16 for a burrito is astronomical. La Costa Vita in YYC beats this place hands down. You probably get 1/3 more food for 2/3 the price. And frankly, more flavourful as well. I doubt I'll ever eat a meal here again, but I may drop by for a bag of churros on occasion. read more

I REALLY want to like this place. But I honestly don't. I tried again with the burrito. They failed again with the burrito. The tortillas are too thick, the cheese is too sparse, the meat is too dry and the rice and beans have no flavor. Not coming back again. read more

Wow!!! Fresh, authentic Mexican food with a spice level for every palate. Like Anah mentioned in an earlier review, the owner greeted us and explained the ordering process. He recommended dishes based on our preferences (Aztec Tortilla Soup, Holy Tacos with Carne Asada - four different sauces, and two enchiladas with Beef Guajillo Barbacoa and carne asada). He also recommended the Mexican hot chocolate, but we were too full! They also offer churros, tres leches cake, and many gluten free options. Overall, the food is fresh, flavorful and not smothered in tons of cheese. The decor is bright and cheerful and the staff is super friendly and helpful. A must-try in Lethbridge. read more

Always come here when stopping in Lethbridge. Great variety of homemade sauces. Lots of options, portions are generous, prices are reasonable. Love the Barbacoa and 4 star heat chipotle sauce. Service is also a plus and there are usually promos/specials going on. read more

The closest thing to good Mexican food in this town. And pretty much the only game in town if you want some fairly authentic south of the U.S. border fair. I highly recommend it, it's our second most visited place to eat out in Lethbridge. read more

I ordered queso with tortilla chips, and boy, was I underwhelmed. It was the thinnest, most tasteless yellow liquid I've ever had. I won't even call it queso dip. Did they thin it w/ milk? Appalling. I asked for their pina colada-- "we're out.' So I had horchata. It was Meh. I asked for carnitas-- "We're out." So I ordered lime chicken in my flautas. I proceed to pay. Five minutes later I'm told, "that won't fit in the flautas, but sweet orange chicken will." Whatever. The flautas were OK when they arrived, but I was so annoyed that the menu did not represent their offerings, and that I paid so much for 'queso,' that I'm giving only 1 stars. And that the counter staff must have such poor communication with the cook that they couldn't let me know which meat was "allowed" to go in what. read more

I felt like something different for lunch today and just happened to spot the sign for Cafe Verde. I was welcomed immediately upon entering, and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the taquitos - it comes with four small, soft tortillas filled with your choice of meat and fillings. I also ordered a pina colada drink (non-alcoholic). Overall, the food was delicious. I had only a couple of issues. My drink was not very cold, and didn't taste much like a pina colada. I ordered cheese on my taquitos and couldn't taste it when I ate them. I ordered one of each kind of meat - two types of beef, a chicken, and a pork (I think). All of them were very good, except the one beef, which was very dry. It was still tasty, but could have done with a little less cooking. I will return the next time I am in Lethbridge - I'll just avoid the chunky style beef and the pina colada! read more

BBB?? HEALTH INSPECTOR??? Sh*tty low grade tacos....Id like to say that my review is not based off of one visit i have gone here a handful of times really observing everything in this place. Conclusion: THE OWNER IS EXTREMELY CHEAP. Never seen anything like it actually. One of the staff was pouring salsa and he ran over and yelled at her for pouring too much. Another time he made the staff pour some of the rice and beans back because they had given me too much. They use many fillers to max profits and it shows. You I get 2 burritos w rice and beans and 2 drinks for 50$. It makes no sense. The quality of their meat is sooo poor and they are kept in ziplock bags which is fine at subway but when you are charging that much we expect a bit better. Health inspector needs to check this place. I will keep going back here though because i love watching the skid owner panic over $....Super sad but funny read more

This is my go to place for Mexican Food. I love the fact I can eat in,and visit with friends. Or just pick something up for on the way home. I usually pick up the two enchilada meal, and the soup...which is delicious! I've heard they are beginning to serve fish tacos, can't wait to try them! Staff is friendly, although sometimes it's hard to hear them, and vice versa I think because the music can be a little too loud. read more

They are extremely stingy on toppings and any extras are quite pricey. The additional toppings are needed to make the food more palatable. When we went in, their most popular dishes were with steak...problem was that they don't offer steak during the winter and spring...or so we were told. read more

This is a great place to eat. I have had a few things I didn't care for but the Enchiladas and Tacos are amazing to say the least. They have so many fresh made sauces I could eat there every day and not get board. The staff is always friendly and the cooking area (and seating area) always looks very clean. My only complaint is the prices are simply too high. I used to go for lunch one a week and order either the two taco or two enchilada meal but with a drink it's now up over $15. Add a tip on there (I don't want to be cheap) and I can spend over $16 no problem. This is simply too expensive for a fast food style lunch. I am down to about once every month now (because of the cost) but I always really enjoy it!! read more

I am a Mexican food connoisseur; it is so great that Lethbridge has this fine little café. It is built on the model of Café Rio that started in Utah in the late 90's. I typically hit little hole in the wall places along the US/Mexico border on both sides. This is not one of those places. This is a healthy twist on Mexican food. The fish tacos were great with tons of lime plus some Aztec soup which was delicous. We really, really enjoyed our meals here! Lethridge is lacking in reasonably priced restaurants that aren't your "fast food" types. We found the prices were very good and you get really decent portions. The burrito is $10 and my husband could only finish half! You pick your entree (things like burrito, taco, enchilada, etc) and then you get rice, beans and salad with it. Everything tastes really fresh, the staff was helpful and friendly. I had a burrito with carne asada, frijoles, cheese and mild sauce. It was really good. I grew up on the Texas/Mexico border. This was close to authentic considering we're in Canada! It was a huge burrito - less than $10. Give it a try. read more

My husband and I will not eat at Café Verde again. Each time we have been sorely disappointed. The tortillas continued to be nearly inedible, being 1/2 inch thick, the meat is dry and I've found everything I've tried is bland. The menu items and even the paint-splashed furniture is similar to Café Rio in the U.S., but miles behind when it comes to the taste and quality....Save your money, put it towards a trip to Great Falls and go Café Rio, not an overly-priced, under quality, knock-off! read more
