It's been years since we have been back to St John and this restaurant. We read that it has been through a couple owners. We gave it a go for dinner tonight and it was a delicious pleasant experience. We had a friendly staff waiting on us and a window seat. Music was good bit find of funny for an Italian restaurant...hits from the Beach Boys, Beatles, etc The important thing is our burrata appetizer and our main of chicken parm (we shared both) were plentiful and tasty. read more

We went for an early dinner .... We're seated immediately (there was only one other couple there, 6:00). Ordered garlic bread with drinks and were told all food orders must go to the kitchen at the same time. My entree was the Cajun Rasta Pasta ... serious creamy heat. What a wonderful surprise. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, but it's changed owners now three times since the hurricane. Last owner, not so good, this time you'll be happy. This is a relatively inexpensive restaurant with incredibly great energy and a wonderful crew working well together. Café Roma is the place to go when you're starting to miss Italian food. Everything we had tasted as good as you hoped it to be, an Italian restaurant that makes you feel like you're back home. Not one of those fancy-schmancy, Italian restaurants, but more like a home Italian restaurant that you might've gone with your parents, like the place next-door. But what was truly special was the Energy. The restaurant was totally filled and you just could tell that everybody in the restaurant were happy and having fun. The moment I walked in, there was an attractive woman running the bar who also had an almost nurturing welcoming way, she made you feel very comfortable when you walked in. She gave me the feeling she was both bright, strong and warm. Ut seemed like everybody was working extremely hard extremely fast and working well together. Last time I came to this restaurant was probably three years ago, it was basically empty and it was terribly wrong. This Not like that Anymore! It is Now doing everything you would want it to do! There's lots of great restaurants in St. John, fish & Caribbean lobster is everywhere, and it's not hard to have a good hamburger if he wants something less involved. We had dinner at Cafe Roma last night and it was ok. We didnt have a reservation and they were able to take us, which was great. The service was slightly slow in taking our orders. The portion sizes of food is respectable and each couple shared a meal - penne a la vodka and chicken Parmesan. I'll admit we appreciate great food and this was truly just average. read more

So surprised to see some lower rating reviews because that was not our experience at all! One of THE BEST MEALS we had on the island. In fact today was our best meal day for lunch and dinner and we couldn't be more happy with our last night/day with excellent food. The ambiance is cozy. The restaurant is kind of tucked away upstairs. Would suggest better street signage for more traffic. We had chicken Parmesan and shrimp pistou. Both were fantastic. A lot of restaurants have a hard time getting red sauce flavorful and on point. This was some of the best red sauce I've had. The basil pesto sauce for the shrimp pistou was unique and so flavorful. We had limoncello creme brûlée and chocolate chip bread pudding. Both were good. Bread pudding wasn't as moist as others I've had. Service was great. Will definitely be back if we are in St. John again. read more

So I'm a bit of a pizza snob growing up in Brooklyn, NY however my husband is originally from up north and more forgiving with Italian food but even he had a ton of remarks. The ambiance is fine it's not dim or too brightly lit where you have the option of sitting in the middle of the room or against the wall of windows looking down below the street where you get a view of local chickens and people milling about. The tables were spacious enough so you had room to switch plates to try your partners dish which I wish I hadn't. We were informed by the waitress they were a bit short staffed so the food would take a little bit which we were fine with and they were very prompt with refilling our water glasses so no complaints there but that about finishes all the positives of our visit. I ordered the margarita personal pie and my husband went with the chicken parm and we were blown away by both and not in a good way. We were informed the plates were hot and that was about the only part that was hot while the food was room temp. The spaghetti and chicken parm were drenched in a thick jar like marinara sauce that was simultaneously underseasoned and over salted while the chicken was drenched in far too much olive oil and burnt beyond crispy. The pizza was made in a standard oven possibly on a stone but tasted reheated like the cheese was frozen and melted down to a rubbery spot on the same thick jar sauce that was on the chicken parm. For the price you're better off going somewhere else we didn't order drinks or appetizers and it still came out to $51 for below mediocre food. In the ten years my husband and I have been together I can say we truly never had a bad meal but today is the exception I would have rather gone dumpster diving in Olive Garden and had a similar dining experience. read more

Really thought this was some typer of prank show. Walked in and got seated (only 1 other table). Waiter started to take our order and proceeded to tell us that we needed to "order everything at once, that's just the chefs rule". Strange but ok. We would the waiter we wanted to pace our meal, appetizer, salad then entree. He told us he would "hold out food in the kitchen and bring it out as we ate". So you're telling me my entree (hot) will sit there for hole we eat our appetizer and salad. Seriously? Drinks came out (nice bartender) and we tasted them and wow. Horrible. She came over to the table a few minutes later and apologized stating that "she forgot a key ingredient". Took the drinks away and remade them. Over heard the waiter go off on another table because they asked for ranch dressing for the salad. "This is an Italian restaurant. The word ranch is a foul word to us. If the chef heard you ask for that he would flip out". First of all, I'm Italian. Second of all, couldn't have you just said "sorry we don't have that" instead of going off on these poor people. Stop. You arent that restaurant. Get over yourself. Then we over hear the bartender telling someone to go was picking up a to go order that "I shouldn't have let you order so many things. I'm new. The chef doesn't allow that. Again. Stop. Your chef seems like an assh@le you the staff (except the bartender) come across totally condescending to the customers. Onto if off, the food as about on par with an Olive Garden type place. Somewhere you had to go for some kids party you had no choice but to attend. Bad service. Bad food. Bad attitude. What's with all the negative reviews. This place is a diamond in the rough. Family of 6. We were seated as soon as we walked in. The staff was super friendly. We had 4 appetizers (garlic bread, meatballs, Caesar salad, and burrata). All 4 were great. The marinara sauce was delicious. It's been six months since my meal there and this restaurant is still the place I talk about when I share about my vacation. Fair food for a high price (Gouging comes to mind for pasta) Stay away from the burnt garlic toast that has hardly any flavor. On a positive note, they didn't add an additional surcharge like Long Boards the restaurant down below. Now I see why they were not very busy. read more

Absolutely delicious pizza! Thin crust, wood-fired. Tried several different combinations and they were all so good. And at a good value. While on St. John we were both hungry for pasta. We found Cafe Roma and both absolutely loved it. We loved it so much we went back the next day. I tried a new dish and hubs ordered the ragin Cajun again. It was so delicious I didn't blame him but I wanted to try another dish. I can say that everything we had was amazing and I am happy they are not local to me because I would eat pasta way to often. We will eat there when we go back. read more

Arrived at 5:30pm right when they open. Seated wherever we wanted due to them just opening. We were greated right away our waitress was really nice, she explained the specials and had nice small talk. Ordered a 10" cheese pizza which was made homemade. Very delicious. I wanted to order the Eggplant but I asked the waitress and it comes frozen. I'm sorry but I'm not paying $30 for frozen eggplant. Unfortunately our two main entrees came completely incorrect. The waitress wrote our orders wrong. Due to that I have to give the review I did. I would of really wished to have tried thier food. With having to 6yr olds with me there was no way we could of waited another 25-30 min for them to remake out food. read more

Service outstanding the waitress might be the best one I've ever had - so nice and engaging. The inside is quiet simple and nothing really stands out except this being prob the only island restaurant without out door seating - not a bad thing as it was 85 and after 5 beach hours later. Amazing Italian food in the heart of Cruz Bay. Stop at this casual cafe for quality Italian fare. We loved the ravioli and of course had to try the Cajun pasta. Overall, the star of the show was surprisingly the fettuccine-- it was creamy yet delicate. It was light enough to almost take down the whole portion. We were in St John with friends and decided to eat in Cruz bay. Everywhere we went had 2-4 hour waits and on a whim I saw the sign and decided to try. It's kind of hidden on top of another local restaurant. But we were seated right away and our waiter Tim was one of the best waiters we have ever had. He was personable and funny. Then we got a house salad to share delicious house dressing. Then we ordered one of there pizzas wow. One of the best pizzas I've had and I've traveled a lot. The wine pours were generous. Came here for dinner tonight and the food was overall solid. Had the Garlic Rolls to start and were actually very good. Then the Pizza was pretty solid too with the sausage and mushroom. Couldn't decide between 3 and 4 stars. 3 seems harsh as I would recommend it, but there may be better options on the island. For take out, i would highly recommend - our main problem was the service. We came in around 5pm and only one other table was there at the time. Very quickly it started to fill up. We had all ordered drinks at the beginning but our waiter never came back during the whole course to ask if we wanted more, nor did he fill up our waters at any point. Service was frankly terrible, but i would say 0% of that was due to the waiter, but rather management. They had one waiter working the entire restaurant, which just doesn't make sense. He had a lot to handle and did a great job given the circumstances. All of that said, I had the chicken parm and shared a pizza - both were absolutely excellent. I'm hoping management normally employs two waiters at least, but if not I would recommend getting there very early or just getting takeout. read more
