Dare I say it?...Perhaps the best chippy this side of Scotland…read more Bongio is an excellent wee chip shop just off the A78 at Inverkip. It has a few picnic benches outside as well for hungry walkers to fill up before taking off. The interior is spotless for a chippy, painted blue and with a chrome finish, someone had their thinking cap on when planning this place. I usually opt for the black pudding supper which comes in around 3.50/4 pounds. Expect HUNNERS of chips, the portions are excellent! If you're an avid fish supper kind of person, i suggest going for a 'Special Fish' which is done in breadcrumbs instead of batter. You only get one fillet but its huge, and with copious amounts of chips, lemmon and tartr sauce to accompany it you wont go hungry. The special fish does take a bit longer though but they dont mind you phoning ahead so its ready by the time you get there. I haven't tried the cafe next door but I've heard good things and it's always packed when I drive by. The staff are excellent as well and always have time for a chat as you're placing your order. Try Bongio, support a local business, then fall asleep on your couch afterwards, completely satisfied.

Also I like the summer when the sun is out, and they do provide outdoor seating area. But I rarely goes there nowadays.

A great independent, locally-owned coffee shop which is situated over two floors. Recently…read morerefurbished, and all crockery/cutlery matches and is branded... yet it still retains a local feeling. The pot of breakfast tea (about £2) ended up giving me four cups worth of lovely tea. Great value! Also has great views out over the Firth of Clyde, and across the Clyde to Kilcreggan. Lovely place!

Nearby the swimming pool, so this place is handy for a post-swim warm-up. Quite busy on a Thursday…read morelunchtime. We got a table by the window, with a great view over the Clyde estuary. Good was pretty good - chorizo and emmental panini was a hit. Chicken and rice soup would have been better if some monster hadn't put celery in it - my companions lentil soup also had it. THIS IS SCOTLAND for crying out loud! Service wasn't amazing. It wasn't terrible, but a little rushed and also we had a long wait for our food. People who arrived after us, and ordered after us, were served their food before us. They were also having soup and sandwiches, so I can't really see the why this was and no apology or explanation was offered. They also served a babyccino to a toddler in a coffee cup and saucer - we asked for a take out cup and straw which was more suitable. Maybe a wee but more thought needs to go into serving junior guests! All in all, I'd give it a 3.5/5. I'd go back if I was in need of sustenance next time I'm swimming. Just one wee aside...waitresses, think about maybe wearing thicker leggings or proper trousers...we could just about see what you'd had for breakfast!
