I ordered a cake, pop and apple juice for my grandson and an iced latte with sugar-free vanilla syrup for me. He loved his cake pop and everything was very reasonable. I just did not enjoy the coffee and I think it was specifically the syrup tasted overly saccharine tasting. Other than that, I would just try something else next time and I appreciate that they have this option at the library.

Once I got to the front of the line, I was greeted by the friendly barista and placed my order. I got a 12 oz. Latte with spiced brown sugar syrup and it was delicious! The latte was very smooth and creamy, and had the perfect amount of syrup to complement the espresso taste. There were two stocked refrigerators and some snacks available in line if you want a quick soda or snack. Note that you can only take food and beverages to the coffee shop area and lobby entrance to the museum!

However, the same can not be said for the outpost inside the Nelson Atkins. It is bland and sad, I don't mind paying $7 for a coffee if the vibes of the coffee shop come correct, but, in this case, you're really only paying the price for the ease of the location being inside the museum. The expresso itself is good quality too, but it's not justifiable for a subpar coffee shop interaction. After walking around for a few hours, I grew thirsty, so I was willing to pay an arm and a leg for my iced decaf latte if that's what it took. Instead, I ended up paying nearly $7 for a drink that wasn't even filled up all the way... sheesh! Also, don't come close to closing. It was about 10 min till 5 pm, and the batista wanted nothing to do with any of the customers. Hopefully, an experience here with a tourist won't scare them away from Kansas City's vibrant coffee culture. Just do yourself a favor and wait until you're out of the museum to get your beverage... or visit the real Thou Mayest in River Market!

The service was generally okay. My husband had a hot pistachio latte that was attractive in appearance, but just okay compared to other ones that he usually gets. He said the pastry was excellent. I had an iced oat milk latte with a specialty syrup that I can't remember but it was pretty good. They have limited syrups because they make their own. I don't believe they have any sugar free. I don't recall any music playing but they were consistently busy with people who took their order to go. The HUGE negative for me is that they said they had no restroom! I would assume they must have one for their staff but they don't allow patrons to use it. That is unacceptable in my opinion. I think it is because there are quite a few homeless/houseless people walking in the area and they have possibly had issues with them using their restroom??? But I feel like they could have a key or code to give to paying customers. People need to have access to a restroom for washing their hands, if something is spilled on their clothing and just to use it after drinking caffeine. The person at the desk did bring him a coupon for a free drink that expired back at the end of 2025 so we are hoping they will still take it when we go back because it does not look promising.
