Truly, an awesome night. Pizza, Wine, Women and Comedy....
My wife arranged for a date for us with the help from a wowcher deal, for Pizza, a champagne cocktail and Comedy. I actually read some reviews on yelp before we went, and wondered if we'd made a mistake. However, after being there in person it feels like a completely different venue to the one described in the reviews I had read; specifically Joyce's.
We went on a rainy and windy evening in London and were glad to get into this cosy and atmospheric candle lit restaurant. A very nice selection of mood music playing in the background with a laid back, not over powering medley awaited us. It would have been nice have a real string quartet, but I'm sure the price would have risen enormously for actual musicians.
We got there around 7.30 and were given seats by the door. We asked to be moved as it was a windy night and didn't want to be near the door if it was busy. So without issue, we were moved to a cosier and warmer two seated table. We ordered our pizza's (both pepperoni, one gluten free), some appetisers (an olive selection and "pepperoni e pane") and dessert strawberry ice cream for the wife and cheese cake for me. Both appetisers were good and exactly as you'd expect. Pizza's were very big, and authentically Italian and extremely tasty, our waitress was also authentically Italian, and seemed a little unhappy, until we tried speaking in Italian with her, when she became much happier. Dessert was delicious, I highly recommend the cheesecake!
The service was excellent, and the food was too. We got a call for the comedy before we'd finished our food, but they waited until we'd finished before they started. The comedy venue was just a room with a microphone and 15 or so chairs facing it. As we went in later than many, the back seats were filled and we sat in the front row, and were therefore involved in the comedy too. A few more stragglers came in from upstairs to fill the rows completely and the warm up man got things started with finding out who his crowd were. All four acts (five including the warm up man/host) were all very good, although one was a little nervous as it was his first performance. The comedy lasted about an hour and we left smiling and still laughing at our wonderful night.
Highly recommended and an awesome night, we will be going back again. read more
