I was impressed at the size of the portions, and my omelette was excellent, with cheese, mushroom and tomato, and a nice garnish. It came with two bruschetta slices, which were a great complement. The schnitzel was generous in size and had a tub of gravy larger than I would have expected. It came with thick-cut chips. I had a large flat white and it was very good. I thought the value for what I paid was very good. I didn't expect the size of the meals, and it was a good thing too, because we were both hungrier than we thought we were!

Weather was predicted to dump all day but just as we approached Dural.... BAM!! Hello rain. But once we made it to the cafe, the cute outdoor seating was drenched. However inside was super cozy and the perfect place to hit out with a coffee. The kitchen was closed when we made it but a second wind for a second lunch totally could have happened. The burger sounded aahhhmazang!! The treat skim piccolo and a cheeky brownie totally hit the spot and the day was a success! The coffee was soooo good! I'm no coffee connoisseur but that cup was so smooth with some surprising character to compliment. (I'll get better with my coffee descriptions lol) They were using 5 senses beans and I'm always a fan of them I'm coming back for that burger!!

Would you like flies with that?…read more You can't blame the business but the most memorable part of my visit was constantly waving and chasing the swarms of flies away from our food! This place is located on the main road so parking is difficult. This wouldn't be a problem if there was something special encouraging you to visit - unfortunately there wasn't. There is indoor and outdoor seating with about 15 of the tables outside. It is licensed as well but only one side of the outdoor area is licensed. Again and like the flies - the licensing laws aren't the fault of the owners but it's a pain in the butt to move everything 2m because you want to have a beer! The staff were polite enough but stuffed up both our drinks orders and the food - brought the wrong drinks and then left stuff on the burger we'd asked to not have on there. The coffee was definitely great but very small. I had a burger which was really good and very fresh but for the price I wouldn't have expected anything less. If it were my local I'd have the odd coffee here but it's not the sort of place I'd go out of my way to visit.

I'm sad I was lazy in the past because Youeni is great! Really good coffee, clean and delicious food and freshly squeezed juice...what more can you ask for? This cafe has a great vibe as well and doubles as a bakery as well! There are so many delicious baked goods on offer you could totally try a new one every week. There was an amazing salted caramel layer cake sitting on the counter when I paid for my breakfast...it was very enticing. I really like that there are heaps of gluten free options for those out there that need that. Their homemade house loaf is gluten free and I tried it with my avocado on toast and it was really great so I recommend it even if you aren't gluten intolerant! The portion sizes are really big and I left feeling super full and really satisfied...definitely worth that extra 5 minute walk!

I asked if there were any recommendations and I was told I couldn't go wrong with the lamb wrap. I would say - not bad - but I'm not going ring my friends about it. I would assume it's just put together with all pre-made ingredients. They do mostly sandwiches as they don't seem to have much in the way of kitchen facilities. It is nice being away from the food court though so that's a plus. All in all, I would say if you're just looking for a quick sandwich and don't want to battle the food court, go for it. Having been given vague directions (and trying to find it before I'd had a coffee), I naturally drove past it twice without seeing it, and so parked the car and decided to head elsewhere. Uninspired by the menu of our substitute, we decided to walk on. Looking across the road I spotted a pretty white-washed cafe with people pouring out of it. Just as I opened my mouth to say "That place looks nice, lets try there", I saw the simple black lettering in the top right corner - Jen. My informant had told me that the food and ambience here were spectacular, but he warned that the coffee needed some serious work. And yet, as I saw the dark caramel-coloured coffees with their shiny ferns head out to the tables, I decided that perhaps he was wrong, and ordered myself a piccolo. Turns out my friend was right on all levels. The food was spectacular - I had the corn fritters with smoked trout, spinach and creme fraiche, and added a poached egg (because some days breakfast isn't breakfast without an egg), and my boyfriend had the french toast with strawberries and bacon. The flavours of the fritters worked together perfectly, and although the meal cost $19 (with the added egg) I was happy to pay every cent of it. The pancakes also looked delicious, and as we sat eating our breakfast we could overhear every single table remarking how fantastic their food was. The ambience was beautiful as well. Clean, crisp, bright but not clinical, Jen looked like it should be sitting on a cliff by the beach. They've found the perfect balance between retro, rustic and chic, with old bricks and music scores adding charm to the beautiful cafe. Sadly, my informant happened to be right about the coffee as well. Whilst their other drinks were delicious (Strawberry milkshake made on actual strawberries), I think next time I will skip the coffee. Who knows, Jen is still pretty new, maybe they just need a little more time to get cosy with their machine. I love Jen, forever and ever, amen.

However, a few weeks ago I needed a coffee fix on a weekday morning and decided to give it a try. The female proprietor who is always there (I'm assuming she is "Jen") seemed friendly enough, but she clearly has her regulars and ignored me in the queue until I muscled my way up to the counter and placed my order. My take-away coffees came out in record time- a flat white and a latte for a friend. I must say, they were both delicious. Fast forward a week or so later when I went on a busy Sunday morning for 3 takeaway coffees. I waited a good 10 minutes to order and seeing how busy they were, after I gave my order to "Jen", I sat at a spare table since I figured I'd be waiting awhile. After 2 minutes, I see "Jen" glaring at me and barking at one of the waitresses in their language, gesturing towards me. The waitress comes over and mumbled something about me needing to place an order at the till if I wanted service. I said to her that I in fact had just placed an order for 3 coffees, and won't she see if they're ready if that's OK? Very rude of the front-of-house, especially since "Jen" had literally taken my order 2 minutes before. I watched coffee after coffee being made for all of the seated tables; it took a good 15 minutes for my coffees to arrive- a total of 25 minutes for 3 coffees. And unfortunately they were sub-par at best. With about 5 cafes within 100 metres of my flat, I will not be returning to Cafe Jen.

The also have loyalty cards for coffee so I grabbed one just in case the coffees were good...and they were. The food was good. The Spanish omelette came out in a dish that was layered in beans & sauce, then slices of chorizo topped with mozzarella and eggs. You will need bread to mop up the plate and there are two slices. Great location: I've always walked on George street, but I discovered Pitt street is even nicer! Less crowded, quieter, and more tree shades. Doppio Espresso is located at the heart of CBD, convenient and accessible. Good coffee: I ordered an ice mocha and it far exceeded my own expectations! First of all, I loved the way they presented it in a mason jar. Second, I'm a big ice cream, chocolate, and coffee lover. My ice mocha had a good balance of all three goodies. It wasn't overly sweet or overly bitter- just right. Great service: The servers were all really attentive and friendly. They made the effort to ask me specifically what I wanted for my orders- ice cream in my ice mocha? Toast and butter for my banana bread? Pleasant atmosphere: Loved the decor and set up of the coffee shop- local and friendly atmosphere. The music volume was also just right- in my case, I went to Doppio Espresso intending on drinking a nice cup of coffee and reading some books. The music had no lyrics, so it was pleasant and at the same time not distracting. Why is it missing a star? - The inside sitting space is a little too cramped. Great for a short stay, but not for a long sitting. - As I was reaching the end of my ice mocha, the server came multiple times to clear my plate/mug. It felt like I was being rushed to leave. In general, I really enjoyed my stay at Doppio Espresso :)
