This morning, I strolled down Bermondsey Street for a Cold Brew when I noticed gorgeous pastries in the window at @comptoir_bakery . After re-fueling with caffeine, I returned to Comptoir and noticed that they had tasty looking Sausage Rolls, which are on my London Food Bingo Card. A Sausage Roll consists of seasoned sausage, surrounded by layers of puff pastry, baked until golden brown. Comptoir's had light and dark sesames on top. I often prefer savory pastries, and this still warm Sausage Roll was the perfect mix of seasoned sausage and satisfying flaky pastry shell. I don't know if I'll have other Sausage Rolls while I'm in London, but this one sets a high standard. My family is still asleep and haven't tried the other pastries and donuts I bought, but they look amazing. I had a sliver of chocolate pastry and it was delicious and flaky. Service was top rate too. But morning after morning, even in the most cold and wet days, I saw a long queue waiting for their cup. Can all those people queuing even in so harsh conditions be wrong? I needed to try. Thank God I did! I was served first with a state-of-the-art espresso and then I asked for a cappuccino that was...well..the one I described above. Just perfect. Well no exactly perfect because it was served in a paper cup (and not in a fine bone china cappuccino cup) but, honestly, I can't demand so much from a tiny movable kiosk :) If it's morning and you need the right start, if you're sad, or just in need of caffeine.
