Fantastic! Great ambience, terrific food and the owner is simply one of the kindest human beings I've ever met. We walked in ads he greeted us like we've known each other for years. Literally never been here before! Great vibes as soon as you walk in. He gave us a great table by the window and ran down the full menu after asking what we like to eat so he could tailor us a meal. We ordered the Lalibela mixed plate for two and oh my, just can't say enough about it! The tibs, Beyaynetu and veggies were all terrific. The injera bread was so light and fluffy, he even brought us more because he saw us enjoying everything so much. Every morsel was delicious as you can see from the almost buffed plate we left in the aftermath! We got the meal and a soft drink add the total was €44!! Absolutely phenomenal restaurant. It's my first night in Vienna, and both my girlfriend and myself were feeling in the mood for some Ethiopian food. Thank goodness we decided to come here. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the kindest dude ever. I would to back just for this guy. He was accommodating, attentive, and extremely polite. Shortly after, we ordered our food. Let me tell you, the kitfo here is to die for. I could eat that stuff by the pound. Ambiance was awesome too. There were relics from Ethiopia and for some reason there was reggae playing in the background. It was awesome. Highly recommend. Just a heads up, they only accept cash. read more

If you're heading to the Volksoper in Vienna, why not eat Ethiopian beforehand? Yes just steps away from this venerable opera house lies the wonderful Café Lalibela. And it has been attractively remodeled which if you are a returnee, you wlll notice right away! When you walk through the front door, you will be warmly greeted. Everyone is! A dish of pretzel sticks will immediately be brought to you. I have no idea 'why?' but I think it's part of the owner's welcome to you. But you are here for the Ethiopian food. On my recent visit I ordered the Beyaynetu - a colorful conglomeration of beef and veggies usually served on holidays but fortunately always on the menu here. Eating with my hands using the injera bread to experience the different tastes and textures, this dish was delicious. A little ground spicy Berbere powder enhanced the flavors. An Ethiopian or Eritrean beer accompanies the meal wonderfully. And a short stroll after completing your meal will bring you to the Volksoper in time for the opera. We were visiting Vienna & randomly went to Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant. So glad we made it there, Food was great & service was exceptional. George greeted us from the door & even though we didn't have a reservation, he found a table for us within 20 minutes. We sat by the bar & had drinks while waiting. Side note: Make sure you order before 9pm as the kitchen closes early & it's cash only. read more
