Wow! As we left Cafe East tonight, my husband said it was the best sushi and entree he's ever had. They have recently redecorated and the ambiance is lovely--I always enjoy candle light on the table, too. My husband and I both ordered the sushi roll on the Specials board called Fallin Love which was delicious salmon and crab with avocado and soy wrap. I cannot help myself--I almost always order the same entree: Red Curry Seafood Casserole. Oh my! Coconut milk broth with vegetables, scallops, shrimp and crabmeat served over rice. LOVE THIS! From their Lighter Choice menu, my husband ordered the mixed veggies and jumbo shrimp which he loved! No sacrifice of flavor to eat healthy here! Five Stars! Tucked into the corner of a strip mall, in a busy shopping plaza this place feels like a secret but if you know you know. This Asian fusion restaurant is spacious & clean with a huge menu to choose from. I often find huge menus overwhelming and wonder if they can possibly do all those offerings well, but here everything we've tried has been fresh and delicious. I have visited my family outside of Lancaster twice in the last three months. In that time, I've been to Cafe East three times. Safe to say that I'm a big fan. We've been for lunch once and dinner twice. For some unknown reason, there have only been a few other diners each time. Location might be the problem - the restaurant is tucked in the back end of a large strip mall and you really don't see it if your not looking for it. I imagine that limits the foot traffic. It's a shame - everyone is missing a gem of a restaurant. Our servers have always been friendly and attentive and we've never had to wait very long for our food. Upon being greeted at the table, you are served what I've always called crunchy noodles with a duck sauce. I guess I'd consider it the Asian version of chips and salsa - don't fill up on it! All three times I've been there, we've ordered mango shrimp. It is one of the best meals I have had at an Asianrestaurant - a sweetish sauce loaded with large shrimp, strips of fresh mango and green peppers. It is absolutely delicious and definitely too much for one person to eat by themselves. The last time I was there I ordered orange chicken. The presentation was really pretty, in fact, the presentation of all the meals has always been special. We also shared drunken noodles - never a huge fan but this was delicious - and General Tso's chicken which was good but nothing special. Another visit, I ordered mu shu pork, one of my all time favorites. Their version did not disappoint. I ordered a special roll my first visit and for the life of me can't remember which one. All I remember is I was in awe of the presentation. Even with two veracious eaters, we've always had left overs to enjoy for lunch the next day. I'll be back in the area in November. Ordered takeout from here last night. I always forget how wonderful their food is! I don't understand why they are not doing in-person dining. They are still only doing takeout (in 2023). Unsure if this will continue to be their business model, or if they are dealing with staffing issues. Regardless, their food always hits the spot when I'm craving Chinese. Decided to try the broccoli in garlic sauce, which comes with a side of white rice. Always quiet, the servers have always been wonderful and the food is beyond amazing. I had the Shrimp with Crispy Honey Walnuts with Chinese Hollandaise sauce and there are no words to describe how good this meal was. I could eat those walnuts by the bag!!! The wasabi tasted authentic (so many other places substitute horseradish colored green instead of the real more expensive wasabi). The environment was quiet and peaceful. I've loved this place for 15 years but had a poor experience recently. The service was poor; we waited around 20 minutes to get drinks. Each course was slow coming out. When our drinks needed to be refilled, the server cleared them along with another tables' drinks, and seemingly mixed all of the glasses together. He returned and distributed the refilled drinks in the same glasses (same straws, too), but how do we know we got our original glasses and not someone else's?! Next, my entree came and it was the wrong meal - no problem. But the server then removed the plate and immediately moved it to the adjacent table. I come here often so I'm hoping today's lunch was a one-off. Ordered Chicken Pad-Thai and it was beyond disgusting. This had obviously been sitting in a pan for hours (or maybe it was leftovers) and was burnt, the chicken was rubber, and there was no taste. I maybe took 3 bites and then just sent it back and said take it off my bill. It was 100% unacceptable and the chef should be fired on the spot for even thinking about sending this out to a customer. So as a SoCal kid I've eaten a good bit of good sushi, and being back in Pennsylvania for the holidays, my buddies wanted to take me out and get some sushi with me. We came out to Cafe East as it was close proximity and they served Sushi. Cafe east is not a Japanese Restaurant, nor a Chinese Restaurant, nor a Korean or Vietnamese, but rather all combined into one, so right off the bat, you really cant expect them to have a strong hold on all their types of food, and the sushi was no exception. We came in around 7-8 on a Wednesday and the place was packed, the wait for a table was only about 5-10 minutes. We were seated and then our waiter came by for our drink orders. After a few more minutes he came back for our food orders. Apparently they only have 1 sushi chef so between the 5 rolls we ordered they took a good 10-15minutes to get out to us. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll, and Philly Roll as I always do, since they are 2 of my favorite rolls, and then the 2X Roll as my choice roll when I want to try something new. My buddy ordered the Angel Roll, and the Crazy Roll. The Spicy Tuna Roll wasn't that great and the tuna didn't seem very fresh. The Philly Roll was decent and the Salmon was Smoked Salmon so it had a different taste than I'm used to, but it was decent like I said. Both of the previous rolls were really pretty small and could have been a little bigger in my opinion.. The highlight of my meal was the 2X roll, which had shrimp Tempura, Salmon, Crunchy Topping, and a few veggies in it. That was actually very nice and I think I should have gotten 3 of those hah.. My buddy got the Angel Roll, which was a barrage of fish all stacked on different pieces, Tuna, White Tuna, Yellow Tail and Salmon all on different pieces topped with caviar, I had a piece with salmon on it and it was pretty good. I didn't get a chance to get try the Crazy Roll as it was only 4 pieces but it looked pretty good and he seemed to like it. Overall The service wasn't that great, The rolls were mediocre, and the sizes weren't that big either. The Prices were ok, but I certainly wouldn't have paid any more than I did for what I got. Coming from Los Angeles and having multiple hundreds of Japanese Sushi Bars to eat from I might be a bit picky, but I gotta stick with what I know. If your an average sushi eater from the area and haven't had much experience in sushi, I would recommend it to you, but if your like me, I would try to find somewhere a bit better (and I'll let you know when I find it) read more

Being a vegetarian its not easy to find chinese food that doesnt have meat. ---------- FOOD: I got a General Tsos tofu that was just awesome! Serving size was pretty big too. And all for a decent price. General Tsos wasnt the only thing on the menu that was vegetarian either. There were quite a few choices that I'll have to try! Theyve also got Japanese menus, thai menus and some odd asian fusion menus that look really good! SERVICE: After being pretty quickly seated, a cute asian waitress with an accent took our order. She was friendly, effiecient and fast, earning her tip. DECOR: Its pretty big inside, with modern accents, not the heavy imperial chinese theme most places go for. Theyve also got a sushi bar inside where a chef will prepare food in front of you. Its clean and well lit. RATING: 4 M's or mmmm!
