    Hummus with garlic bread

Cafe del Mar is where locals enjoy authentic food, friendly service, fine strong drink --don't miss it. Right on the Malecón, there's tons of parking right across the street, along with all the beach rentals and tour pickups. Chalkboard menu means you'll only get what's fresh and hot that day. We had delicious hummus with garlic bread and grilled chicken in garlic butter with, of course, rice and beans. Coquito with Crab Island Rum was dessert, wow. Janelle and Sauna are our favorites!

Stopped to get breakfast to go so that we could make it to the beach early. My husband got the vegetable burrito and I got the breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon, cheese. Both were really good. Would definitely come here for breakfast even though it's the only place open!!

Had an early dinner on a rainy day. Service was great. Bar keep kept checking on us. Several tables were occupied but she was friendly and talkative to all not just the ones sitting at the bar. Our food was made in a timely manner and delicious. The appetizer was piping hot. The churrasco was made exactly medium well as we asked. Rice & beans were also delicious. The mahi plate was amazing. Want expecting it to be so good and pretty big. Very filling.

Excellent food at very good prices. The owner is a local from Vieques. You can go for breakfast or dinner, you will always have a good time and you will leave super pleased! In addition, they have a bar with very good selections of drinks, wines and beers! Nice ambiance at nights.. Some, they have Karaoke!

Cafe Del Mar provides a relaxed atmosphere with amazing offerings. Everything is cooked to order and delicious Chef Susan's flavor combinations create an incredible palatable experience. If you are in La Esperanza, Vieques you must give it a try.

Perfect atmosphere. Staff is friendly. If they have it the coconut iced coffee is insanely delicious. The food was also great.

He's also a Philly native so he knows about burgers and cheesesteaks! We were excited to try and it was a rainy day in vieques. We had no reservations, but hoped to get one. We came when the restaurant opened. Hostess was downright rude and condescending. We were told our group of 4 could sit at the bar at 6pm since they are "booked". When I informed her that online I was able to make a reservation for 4 at 5:30 or 5:45pm, she rolled her eyes and said you can try if you want. So I did and was able to get a seat at a table for 4 by 5:30pm. Waitress was also rude. Maybe everyone was having a bad day? They all just started though? But with some jokes and kind words, I think the waitress warmed up to us. Food was phenomenal, some of the best food we had in Puerto Rico hands down. Drinks were also top notch. Prices were high but expected for where we were. Would have given 5 stars all around if service was significantly better. Which by the way, when we finished dinner, restaurant was still half empty.

This joint saved me…read more It was the middle of the day. The sun had been beating down on me. We just rented our scooter (I had to run up the hill a couple of times to get my driver's license and was totally dehydrated & hot). It was lunch time, and we were told Tito Bloque is a good local restaurant to hit up. The town of Esperanza is tiny, so I thought the directions would not be hard to follow, but we managed to get lost. This eatery was literally within a neighborhood, and looked like it was in the porch of someone's house. Needless to say, it was hard to find, and required us to ask for more directions. By the time we were here, my lame butt was ready to pass out (dehydration is a son of gun when you're in a tropical locale!). But we made it. We grabbed a table. Looked at menus. And first things first, I had to hydrate: with a can of ice cold Medalla cerveza (Puerto Rican beer). Maybe not as good as water, but this brew certainly flipped my mood to the positive. For food, I saw lots of basic home-cooked options (seafood, chicken, steak, etc.). I went with the steamed chicken. It came with a very basic salad (meaning, mostly lettuce). But the chicken certainly filled the spot with its juicy tenderness. And when all is said and done, the two cans of Medalla also made all well. This place looked to be run by an elderly couple. The guy mainly lounged on a hammock hanging inside the open-air patio. The woman was in the kitchen behind the bar, and also came out to take orders and serve us. They both weren't very talkative to me (the gringo). But as I paid, I noticed some photos of snowy mountains and elk. I asked about them, and the lady said they are from family in Oregon---I told them I was from Washington, and she lit up. She was nice and sweet. While here, I saw some locals pull up in a jeep. The old guy hopped out of the hammock and chatted with the guy. He then went to the back and came back out with a bag of food. So yeah, if you want take-away, you are set here. All in all, if you want to bypass the humdrum/crowded restaurants on the malecon (waterfront), venture a couple of blocks inland and have a meal like a local.
