Famous place in some smaller streets in Helsinki. Last time came here some decades ago... ha ha but still enjoying the atmosphere! Great menu. Nice hip & cool and comfy place, super location close to downtown but at a quieter street. Good food, regular pricing. Nice music and art. Great service.

Mushroom pasta

Food was rich and low in salt. Depends on if that's to your taste. Restaurant itself was cute with clean facilities, the staff was super nice.

The Atkins: steak with salad and a side of creamy herb dressing.

For all you American Express card holders, Cafe Bar 9 is one of the few spots in Helsinki that will accept it! Cafe Bar 9 was busy when I strolled in for a late dinner. Since it was a holiday, they were sold out of salmon so I settled for their Atkins salad: steak with a large salad with a side of herb salad. Surprisingly, it was a such a large portion. It was just what I needed after a long flight to Helsinki. I do like that they serve the dressing on the side since I don't think you need a lot of it. I thought the steak itself was pretty good, although I would prefer it a little rarer. Overall, it's a reliable spot for a filling meal. Also great for solo diners, since they do have a few seats at the bar.

Carbonara

Food was amazing!! I had the carbonara and it was probably the best carbonara I've ever had! Would def recommend coming here. The interior is small and quaint! Service was ok!

Amazing food, fast, and friendly staff. Can't really sit more than two or three outside and the inside can become pretty hot. Also any alcohol over 5% cannot be take to go. Exquisite pasta really, Would definitely recommend.

Tasty tofu burger - AMAZING!

This place had good reviews and the food looked good via Yelp so we wondered on over, we were not let down! Not many places in Finland had reviews so we knew this place must be good. It was very busy but luckily we found seats at the bar. The service was great, super cool and helpful staff. It's a very hip spot, if I lived in Helsinki (I wish) I would frequent this place often. The food was amazing, there are few meals I can look back on and salivate over and this tofu burger is one of those meals! The consistency of the tofu was unreal, I am going to try and replicate it at some point, it was so soft and flavorful. Mmmm. The warm goat cheese paired with the tofu is superb. Tasty wedge fries and some yummy side sauce I don't recall what it was.. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their dinner here!

Liminello pollo

My husband and I had a day in Helsinki, so I was busy yelping us a place for lunch and dinner. I saw that Cafe Bar 9 had good reviews and I was starving, so pasta was perfect! Luckily, the walk to this bar was not far. You can seat yourself and grab a menu from the bar. When you're ready, you go to the cashier and order and pay. Think of this place like a Panera. We decided on the limonello pollo (lemon chicken) and the carbonara. The limonello pollo was amazing! It had so much flavor and I loved every bite of it. The carbonara was just okay to me. Prices are very affordable (about 10-11 euro for most dishes) and portions are good. We had a reservation for a fancier restaurant for dinner, but we loved Cafe Bar 9 so much, we actually went back! For dinner, I got the tom yum thai noodle soup and my husband got the steak entree. Both were delicious! I loved 3/4 dishes and will come back if I'm ever back in Helsinki.

Satay Wok

I was pretty skeptical of this Asian/Italian fusion bar/restaurant, but they made it work! My satay wok was delicious with a very generous portion. The beef was a tad dry, but otherwise a very good dish. Wish I had the chance to try more dishes! Atmosphere is nice and cozy but can get loud at times. The service, however, was lacklustre - you order at the counter with very busy bartenders/servers. But overall, would recommend giving this place a try!

Happily waiting for the "traditional" lemon chicken pasta.

I discovered this place, yes, through Yelp as I was staying at a hotel in the neighbourhood (Klaus K). I was looking for an informal and (this is Helsinki, right) affordable place to grab a quick dinner. And Café Bar 9 worked out just fine. I opted for the local "specialty" - Pollo Limoncello (€10) with a pint of local lager (€5,80 - yes, it's Finland). The portion was sufficiently big, the beer was cold. And wow, did that pasta taste good. (I am actually writing this at Café Bar 9, having returned about a month later, opting for more of the same!) Do not expect a white table cloth and extensive waiter service - you order at the bar, grab your drink, sit down at an empty (no frills) table and wait for delicious food to appear. The crowd is mostly young and on the loud side of things, and I feel very much reminded of Berlin Mitte, but here, that's part of the fun. Try it out, you'll be fine.

Great! Really good value - huge dishes for around 10 euros. Cool atmosphere - they get a good amount of foot traffic, which is nice and the pace is pretty cool. The food - pretty darn good (especially for the price point). The lemon chicken pasta was really tasty and HUGE. The wok meals were also really enjoyable.

There are not a whole lot of advertised lunch spots in Helsinki - many reviews advertise the baked goods - the same pastries, I might add. We stumbled upon this place when looking for a lunch spot - it seemed to be filled with many locals which to me is always a good sign. We scanned the menu quickly and decided to try it. I wanted something lighter and a little healthier than what I have been able to find here. I ordered the Tomato soup with Goat cheese and the Greek salad, my boyfriend ordered the Atkins salad. The tomato soup is one of the best I have ever had - a generous portion and very flavorful. Two huge beautiful salads showed up and they were just as delicious as they looked - interesting ingredients that all came together nicely. Very bare bones stylistically but still a good vibe. Staff was friendly and service was good. Most importantly the food was great!

Friendly staff and not so busy place on a week end night for a late night dinner in the design district. We went for the popular coriander chichen noodles wok served with a soya sauce and the beef burger. The noodles (10€) were pretty decent specially when you squizze the piece of lime over the dish. About the burger (15.90€): the bun was tired, the meat taste was flavor less as the cheese. The barbecue sauce that was served with the burger was a mix of mayo + ketchup à the potato wedges were really soggy and looked like they were re heated. 3 stars are for the late opening and affordable price for Helsinki, the welcoming staff and the noodles.

Very nice place! Delicious food, great prices, very handsome and hospitality bar tender! Will come here again and advice this place to other friends of mine! Merci!

The menu changes every two weeks depending on what is fresh and available. While the food was excellent, what puts this restaurant at a five star level is the personalized service. It is a one man show in here - he is probably the owner, manager, and wait staff all in one. He came over to our table, had a small talk about our tastes, and suggested an excellent red wine to go with our meal. So far this is normal for most restaurants of this caliber. As we were finishing our meal, he came over and asked if we want dessert. I was hesitant and my husband was too full for dessert. However, Mr. All-in-one (I cannot remember his name) encouraged us to try the dessert and then brought us some dessert wine to try (on the house!). He explained to us how this particular wine pairs well with the dessert. The best part is that he genuinely wanted us to enjoy our meal and experience his wonderful hospitality. That alone puts this restaurant on the five star level. Service beyond excellence and the food is delicious! One of the highlights of our culinary tour of Helsinki.

The breakfast was always fresh and delicious. It had a decent selection of foods; typical of many hotel brunches. One of the coolest things about breakfast was the breakfast beverage machine. It was controlled by an iPad. Touch the iPad and select your juice of choice (or water), put your glass in the proper place and press start. It had an auto setting that knew just the right amount of juice or water to put in each glass. Not in the mood for a full glass? No problem, select the custom setting and stop it at your desired amount. In the evening the restaurant morphs into a very cool place with a lounge type setting. There was a nice selection of music playing at an acceptable level. The English menus are on android tablets (Apple in the morning and Google in the evening). Selections can be made directly from the tablet and once you're ready to order either call your server via the tablet or submit your order. Every entree I saw looked very delicious. Because of the time (it was later than I liked for dining) I opted for grilled chicken Caesar salad. It was very fresh, came with a decent serving of chicken and just the right amount of dressing. They also served bread (with real butter) which was delicious. Another really cool feature in the restaurant involves more technology (surprise, surprise). Some tables are equipped with "Power Kiss Hotspot circles" that can be used to charge almost any device. Ask your server for a "charging ring" (just specify what type of device you have) and they will provide the appropriate ring. Plug it into your device, place the ring over the "Power Kiss Hotspot circles" and your device begins charging. You gotta love technology (I do) I plan to try other entrees on my next visit so stay tuned for future updates.

Worth to check out! I reviewed another restaurant of the same style this week (Elite) and Kosmos goes to the same category as being CLASSIC and tasty. So if you want to get some traditional Finnish food you can't go wrong with Kosmos. Nice variation to your foodie hipster routines and getting back to basics and turning the clock back a few decades. Food: Dishes are CLASSIC Finnish restaurant dishes. Our table ordered a couple of different dishes. Two fish including some Finnish fish with prawns and lobster sauce. Which was excellent by the way! We also had the Chateaubriand with madeira sauce which was really good but not in a way I would have to have it every time. On the other hand the fish with lobster sauce and prawns would be my choice for the next time. Environment: Place looks like an old ballroom with large chandeliers and decorated wooden booths. The interior is so old that the restaurant doesn't look dated at all instead it's more historic. Went in with my parents (70+) and they really liked the old charm of the restaurant. Besides the beautiful decorated booths there are lot's of tables and also bigger tables to seat groups. You still probably want to make a reservation before hand. Service: Service was not the fastest maybe due to being Christmas party season in Finland still the restaurant wasn't packed. But Finns get quite demanding during Christmas party season when they are drunk and the company pays the check :) All in all service was good and CLASSIC. Waiters knew the list, beers and wines and could suggest you different choices to go with your dish. Price: Price wise I would say average. It's not "expensive" but it's not cheap. Taking into account the location it could be on the cheap side a bit. Also when going to any restaurant in Helsinki you'll end up paying around 30€ for a steak even if it would be rubbish. So all in all a historic restaurant in the center of everything and not that expensive. Food: 4/5 Environment: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 4/5

The best was hearing Johnny Cash sung with a Finnish accent! They have an extensive beer and liquor list, and the staff is friendly. The place feels safe, and clean. There are plenty of places to sit, along with some slot machines. They offer the national beer of Finland on draft, Karhu, but most of their best beers are micro-brews from a bit further north in Finland- amazing IPAs.
