Starting off my brief weekend in Helsinki with a bang, my friends and I landed here for dinner on our first night. Warmly welcomed at the bottom of the stairs, we were fortunate to be early enough that there were a couple of tables available before the dinner rush starts to arrive. Finns seem to start dinner a little later, and we were already a little jet lagged so we're having dinner at 6:30 pm which is actually closer to 12:30pm in our heads. A bottle of wine, a few very good beers and a main course here. I had their witbier and it was excellent. Nice, strong flavor. Very cold. Beautiful glass. A proper pour. Delicious beer. For main course, the elk sausages were excellent. Not very thick - maybe half an inch - and covered with lingonberries. The sausages were rich and very flavorful. Easy to eat with knife and fork. Absolutely excellent. The menus are printed in Finnish and English. Prices are clear. Each item offers a wine and beer recommendation. On of my favorite meals in Helsinki! I tried 3 small sizes: The tea beer : the tea flavor was fairly subtle. I thought it was ok, might be more polarizing for others New England ipa: I'm not a huge Ipa fan but new England style usually means hazy. This tasted more like a traditional Ipa and had a nice fruit undertone. Too hoppy for me but I'd encourage Ipa fans to try it Gose with ligonberry: based on the description this beer could not be more up my alley. From drinking it, it's definitely my favorite of the 3 I tried. Definitely tart and the berry itself is tart so it doesn't achieve the same balance of Gose fruit mixes but if you like tart you'll like this! Initially just dropped in for a quick brew with a few friends. I took a Malmgård Emmer IPA from the tap -- I enjoyed it. But the upstairs bar was pretty packed, so we decided to grab some food downstairs and there was plenty of space in the restaurant area. I ordered a pork burger and fries from the bar menu, while a friend took a meat dish (elk?) from the dinner menu. The food was decent. Understandably ("Bryggeri" = "Brewery" in Swedish I'm told), the place has a good beer selection. On tap house brews include IPA, Pils, Weizen, Porter, and Winter Ale. I want to go back and try more, because I only had a half liter of their house IPA which wasn't my taste -- too fruity. The prices are reasonable, and you get all sorts of sizes from the tap to get more tastings in. I enjoyed the visit and I'll be back :) read more

The beer is pricier than this Londoner is used to, but Bryggeri is still worth visiting for its chilled atmosphere (at least on the Friday in February that I was there), friendly service and, slightly surprising for a microbrewery, the beer. Yep, I'm going to say it: however warm it feels to support the efforts of plucky underdogs, particularly when they're local, all too often beer from microbreweries isn't that interesting. Namely it often looks the part but lacks the taste. The beer at Bryggeri on the other hand was pretty darn good. I bought a sample of five house beers (EPA, citrus IPA, winter ale, wheat, stout) and would happily have sunk several pints of the excellent wheat beer, IPA or winter ale. It is pricey compared to London: my one litre sample (5 x 0.2 litres) cost 16 euros, maybe 50% more than London prices. But I'm guessing that's a Helsinki-wide thing. Besides, it was more than made up for by the friendly, laid back service and the relaxed atmosphere generally. The interior is worth a mention too: wooden benches, stools and tables, a little colour, and downstairs, the copper tanks of the brewery itself. And it's on one of the oldest streets in Helsinki! I'm very glad to have dropped by here. read more

I had two of them beers and they gave me a good buzz for this cool town. I recommend this place to all the craftbeers snobs like me visiting from around the world tasting different craftbeers. Did a 3-Day stopover in Helsinki on my way to China and I like to try local breweries whenever I'm in a new city. came across Byrggeri and the tap list meant I had to stop and try them. I had the Elk Sausage with Roasted Root Vegetables and washed it down with a couple house pints. Old Berry Ale, APA, and the Sofia to end the evening. All three beers were good, my favorite being the Sofia. But that is a beer to end the evening with, not to start. For everyday drinking, I'd go with the Old Berry. The food was equally good. I was surprised that the root vegetables were roasted skin on, but after a few bites I was over my surprise and they were delicious. The staff is friendly, especially Emanuel who was so interesting to talk to. Will I be back? Yes! Every time I'm in Finland. read more

Fans of microbreweries and good food should come to Panimoravintola Bryggeri in Sofiankatu right next to the Senatsquare. When entering you stand in a small pub with a few tables and chairs. Taking the stairs down you get to the actual place with loads of space. Here also the restaurant is located. One side of the room is covered with white enlightened curtains that give you the feeling that it's bright daylight outside. Try one of their owned brewed beers like Pils, Red Ale or their seasonal beer (at the moment Winter Weizen). They also offer other microbrewery beer. Ask for a recommendation. You might even get to try them first. Bryggeri is also a good place for either a snack on the side or even a real dinner. The menu changes constantly. The dishes are delicious and even quite affordable. read more

Nice beer bar with a spacious restaurant downstairs and a beer garden in the back for warmer days. They have some pretty interesting local beers that I hadn't seen before, as well as their own brews. I also couldn't resist a pretzel (€4,50) when I saw them hanging in the bar, which came with Obatzda cheese dip. It was really good, and the cheese even improved some of the beers we were drinking! Not exactly magic berries, but worth a try. Why don't all bars serve big pretzels? They also have a small selection of games in addition to having lots of tables, so this is a great place to hang out with a group of friends. We drank 2-3 beers each but could easily have stayed longer. Even though the bartender was very serious, he was efficient and gave great recommendations. read more

Stopped into this place as part of Heather's Helsinki walking food tour for lunch. The bartender (blonde guy with spacers in his ears and a pony tail) was very friendly and awesome. I'm a beer drinker so I am particular in my beers - mainly stick to Porters and Stouts, then IPAs, then water. I told him I wanted the darkest beer he had - which ended up being a nice thick porter at 10% ABV. We get 4 tastings as part of the walking tour so I received 3 dark beers and another I forget the type. All the beers were delicious and the sausage and sauerkraut that came for lunch were spot on. I don't generally eat sauerkraut in the states but the sauerkraut in Europe is different - it's sweeter. The stone ground homemade mustard with the sausage was tasty too - definitely took the flavor meter up a notch with the sausage and sauerkraut. When we were almost finished with the meal, the bartender came over to our table and said that since it was slow right now, we could take us into the room with the fermentation tanks for a quick tour - SCORE! We walked outside into the courtyard and into the locked fermentation tanks. After describing the process and the different beers in the fermentation stage, he pulled out two glasses and poured us a tasting directly from the tank of the special 100 year anniversary beer that will be released next year. It was good. The food was good the staff was super friendly and they have great dark beer! Go here since it's close to the water and on the main square where the festivities happen. This place isn't anything special. Their website makes them look a lot better than what it really is. I had their IPA first. It was below average when compared to an American IPA and average when compared to European "wannabees." I also had their Sofia imperial stout. It was good. A much more manly beer with a creamy head and nice finish (no pun intended). I had the slow-cooked neck of lamb with cauliflower purée and spring greens for dinner. The neck of lamb was a small portion and quite salty. The cauliflower purée was nice - very light with not much substance but much needed to offset the saltiness of the lamb. The spring greens were sprigs of thyme garnishing the top (I guess). Overall the dinner was decent, but 27€ for the entrée and I left hungry. Not bad, but not great. I will explore other options before I return here. I had a (possibly) Australian server. Fluent in Finnish, but I think she had an Australian accent when speaking English. She seemed quite new to the server position. She didn't quite have it all together. read more

I have visited Bryggeri for several times now and I have to say that the best beer in town comes from the copper tanks of this beautiful little brewery in the heart of Helsinki. The beer is no the only thing that makes this bar worth visiting for, the food is excellent. As a Finn i seldom like to eat at a scandinavian restaurants but I have definitely enjoyed every single meal at this brewery. The service is very professional and makes you feel welcomed. My wife and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Fortunately we had reservations since it was completely booked. We ate downstairs in a comfortable dining area. We shared two dishes. The first was the Helsinki salad which consisted of broiled salmon, lettuce, eggs, needle beans, cherry tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, marinated olives, fresh Bell peppers, and roasted seeds. It was a great tasty collection of different flavors and textures. We also shared the Bryggeri bowl which consisted of Teriyaki and sesame seeded salmon, eggs, sprouts, pickled cucumbers, Apple fennel lettuce, pickled radishes, edamame beans, avocado, black rice and crispy rice noodles. The salmon was sushi grade and again all the flavors melded very well. The only criticism I have is that the salmon fillet in the Helsinki salad was a bit too salty as we have consistently found throughout our tour of Scandinavia. Service was good. read more

This is something else. I never thought that coming to this restaurant would change my perspective of food and service. When we first entered the restaurant we were kinda confused at how their service worked. First you order the food and drinks on the bar and pay immediately, then they give you a number for the waiters to recognise your order when sited. They also offer a free salad bar that comes with your food (which I find very amusing) what I found really different is the atmosphere of the place, it felt very cozy and warm, almost like a home. Furthermore, the food was exquisite. We ordered the "Today's special" curry wurst that consisted of two juice sausages and some crispy french fries topped with a creamy curry sauce. I really liked having lunch here. So, in conclusion, if you have time to stop and eat here on this very fine restaurant I would definitely recommend it! read more

We dropped by here to see if we could sample some local cider on tap. Sadly they didn't have their own cider on tap (it was on the menu but they were out) but I got a Tin Soldier's in a bottle from Suomenlinna. I also tried the burger and a side of fries. The burger was well-cooked and tasty on a homemade American-style biscuit for a bun. The tomato slice on the burger was bigger around than any of the rest of it. The burger came with a side of runny, tasteless coleslaw. The fries were good, but were extra. Everything was a little overpriced for the size, even by Helsinki standards. It's more of a gastropub-type elevated fare for a brewery and I'd personally prefer a cheap greasy hamburger from Hesburger. The restaurant is down stairs (no elevator that I could see) only with a very small bar right when you walk in if you just want drinks. Probably a great stop if doing a brewery tour but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

Awesome. Had a couple of their own brews upstairs before being seated downstairs for dinner on a Saturday night. The caramelized pork baby back ribs were fantastic - highly recommended. Cheeseburger was also really good. Had a side of fries too, but all of these ended up being a bit too much food for two people. The Colorado Blond Belgian IPA was our favorite beer, though the others were great too. read more
