Delicious Gruet Chardonnay. Also available by the glass.

We just love this little place! My sister and I and our dad were renting a vacation home near Lake Abiquiu, and we stopped in to the cafe one afternoon for beers and snacks. We sat on their beautiful patio underneath the cottonwood tees, and drank cold, refreshing beers, and snacked on chips, salsa, and their delicious queso blanco dip with New Mexican green chilies. Just perfect! We returned for dinner another night and the three of us shared a bottle of wonderful Gruet Chardonnay. So good, and reasonably priced! Highly recommend. It is also available by the glass. Then we each dined on the chicken enchiladas with green chili sauce, which we all agreed were just fantastic! Add super friendly service and a cozy indoor ambiance, and you've got a winner! The only tiny bump was that we had to wait a bit for our check, but other than that, just two really pleasant dining experiences. I can't wait to return to beautiful northern New Mexico, and I'll definitely be back to Cafe Abiquiu!

We had some of the best food of our trip. The fire roasted salsa is delicious and flavorful, not just hot. The chips are blue and yellow corn with a nice crunch. The guacamole is finely chopped in a pico style. We both loved it. The soup was a tomato garlic gazpacho blended to a creamy texture. It had drops of chili oil on top so was beautiful as well as delicious. The burger was top notch. The art in the dining area was a perfect complement to the log ceiling. It was too chilly to eat on the patio but others did. It seemed like a nice place too. The series of rooms feature fun shopping. Art, lavender, jewelry, books, clothes, purses, and several souvenirs. Our server was beautiful, friendly, fun, had the best laugh, and went overboard to ensure we had all we wanted.

Wasn't sure what to expect walking in after an hour ride give or take from Santa Fe but we were pleasantly surprised. Very comfortable and a friendly welcome. The food was great ...... girlfriend had a sweet potato soup and chicken with avocado sandwich and I enjoyed the burger with cheese and mushrooms ..... both were picture perfect

I've tried so very hard over the years to like their food with an appreciation that it is a small community, therefore don't expect much. But frankly Chef, you need to overhaul this menu. It's boring and tasteless. Or just stale. The prime rib was seasonless and staff failed to serve it with au jus and horseradish sauce. Elote as an appetizer side and in lieu of queso paired with corn tortilla chips? That became a hard pass after tasting. Corn tortilla chips with elote is too much corn! Tasteless hamburger patty? Really? Diversify the wine list going outside of NM please. Train staff to be critical thinkers. We are in the northern desert and still I had to ask for more water several times. Why not put a bottle of water on the table? Prevents customer discomfort & irritation and maximizes staff time. Also had to ask for all condiments. The restaurant was not busy so really should've had more efficient service. Although we still visit here and keep trying, we made a note to bring more food with us and to sadly pass on Cafe Abiquiu.

We had the piñon pancake stack and the breakfast burrito. $29. The burrito was huge and full. The chill sauces were top notch bringing heat and flavor. The piñon pancake we're huge and very filling. This was our first time having them and we were very happy we didn't get the buttermilk option. The staff was full of smiles and were courteous and attentive.

Lamb burger with housemade potato chips. One of these days I'll remember to take the picture *before* I start eating!

My husband and I took an overnight trip to Pagosa Springs for our wedding anniversary and decided to stop for lunch at Cafe Abiquiu on the way up. The dining room is nicely decorated, and we were seated pretty quickly. We both had the lamb burger; I got the housemade potato chips and my husband had a cup of avocado cucumber soup with his. The burger was very good, closer to medium than the medium rare I ordered, but tasty with an onion mint marinade and fresh spinach. The chips were also good and well-seasoned. My husband's soup was really tasty. It would make a nice light lunch with a salad. To drink, I had iced mint tea which was delicious. My husband's rosemary lemonade was excellent, and I would definitely order it again.

This restaurant is locate in a local Inn, but is open to the public. There is amazing indoor and outdoor seating. The service was friendly and quick. We chose to sit in the outdoor seating, which is surrounded by giant trees and provided great views. The menu offered many tempting options. I attempted to order the lamb burger, which has an onion mint marmalade. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of lamb. I ended up getting the chicken fried steak and was not disappointed. This was on of the best chicken fried steaks I have ever had. The bread was perfect and the flavor was amazing. It was tender and easy to cut. I also enjoyed lavender lemonade. I will definitely stop again when I am in the area. This place is highly recommended!

I understand that this restaurant has a storied past, and was previously a favorite stop for many former governors. But I fear those days are long past.

There's only a small kitchen We got to mean Domenic, our cook A sweetheart and a skilled chef. The food itself seems straightforward and pretty simple, but each dish had its own flavor which I think is pretty hard to do and each was so satisfyingly delicious. I think I would've bn satisfied with just the menudo and the half order of nachos, but didn't know it at the time we ordered so we went on and got the El Faro burger, my friend ordered the cheese enchiladas and of course we got the chile Christmas on the side. Fantastic! And a tremendous value. We were quite shocked that our entire meal, including 2 sodas came to less that $40, such that we left double that bc these small businesses are such treasures and we want such places to remain in business. Seemed there were quite a few locals but also lots of travelers coming through. I certainly plan to be back soon!

Not very hungry, I ordered a Frito Pie (what I consider a small dish that is always ok, but nothing special. ) First, this came with a large bowl of beans and ground beef in the best red chile I've ever tasted. After over eating at the restaurant, I brought half of this dish home for another meal. My wife had a small ground beef stuffed sopapilla with green chile. She said it was excellent and also had leftovers. My daughter had the Enchiladas Especial with Christmas and said it was outstanding as well. Dinner finished with three large and delicious sopapillas and honey. Service was excellent, the ambiance of the restaurant comfortable and relaxing. I can imagine there may be times we will drive up from Albuquerque just for a truly amazing New Mexican meal.

This was BFF's first time here and he loved it. Both he and mom ordered the carne adovada plate which came with refried beans and rice (they did state that the red chile was too spicy though). I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with both red and green chile (Xmas style). It was ok but 16 bucks for this was too expensive. We also ordered a margarita each and they were also just ok and too expensive at 13 bucks each. As for the parking, it is kind of confusing but there is plenty of (unmarked) spots and kind of like a maze. We dropped off mom on the side (she is handicapped) as there really isn't a front side where you can drop off anyone. Our server was so genuinely nice though and provided excellent service and she went above as well as she noticed us dropping mom off via the cameras and told us we could go out through the side entrance. Would I be back? Most likely not as I had mentioned above that this place has never been one of my favorites but I am sure I am in the minority. I hear it is quite the place to be seen (for happy hour).

They have a very nice outside patio with umbrellas and also an indoor dining area. The bathroom is inside the kitchen, so you will see them cooking if you have to go. Luckily we arrived before the place got completely packed. I ordered the chicken blue corn enchiladas with green chile and an over medium egg on top. This came with posole and beans on the side. All this for $16. The enchiladas were stacked and they were packed with chicken. A very nice bite to the chile and egg yolk completed the flavors. Posole and beans were hot and well seasoned. A filling and flavorful lunch. Well worth the stop. Just a note: they aren't opened on Sundays. Monday through Saturdays, lunch is served from 10:30 until 3 PM and supper from 5 to 9 PM.
