A convenient lunch We are visiting Madrid from the US and headed to the Prado Museum. We had a wonderful few hours strolling around looking and learning about so many paintings. But before we began our enlightening visit, we wanted a quick and simple lunch. There are two parts to Cafe Prado, a cafeteria and a restaurant. We did the cafeteria, which had a couple of types of premade sandwiches, pastries, drinks, and other easy to eat items. There was a line so it was not as quick as we would have liked, but it was certainly convenient for us. The person who took and filled our order was pleasant and could understand English, the dining area clean and had plenty of tables available. I went with a ham sandwich, pretty good, and a chocolate croissant. Prices may have been a little high, I'm not totally sure, not having much experience buying food in Madrid. If having lunch at Cafe Prado helps to support this great museum, it is money well spent.

Pretty decent offering of hot foods, desserts, baguettes and salads at affordable prices considering it's a museum cafe. There is a special of the day and today's was black spaghetti w/ garlic and oil + baby shrimp for 8.50€. The pasta is pre-made but heated up on a pan upon ordering. There are other Spanish specialties to try as well - too bad it's not by weight like a hot food bar - I would have loved to try a few things without springing for the entire dish.

don't order this sad looking excuse for stuffed tomatoes~

I believe they've gobbled up the nearby spaces around them, so they can open up more seating capacity and open a take out counter. They also have an outdoor patio. The original still looks beautiful inside. You know the churros is fresh, because the people keep coming. And that thick cup of chocolate is so good!

My parents were visiting Madrid and were genuinely excited to try the famous churros and hot chocolate at Chocolatería San Ginés. Unfortunately, their experience was ruined by one of the servers, Ali, a tall, grey-haired man. While serving them, Ali said "chino, chino, cappuccino" while making a derogatory gesture pulling the skin around his eyes. The gesture is extremely offensive and inappropriate in 2026. My parents told him directly that he should not be doing things like that. My mother also told him "we may all look different, but we are all the same," and expressed how much she loves Spain but dislikes being treated this way by people like him. What makes this especially upsetting is that my parents were guests visiting Spain from the US and were looking forward to experiencing the culture and food. Instead, they left with a very sour impression because of the behavior of one employee. The churros and hot chocolate may be well known, but no food is worth being subjected to a racist or derogatory gesture. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses this employee's behavior so other visitors do not have a similar experience.
