I came across Cafe George V during my Morning walk by Champ Elysees and decided to dine in for brunch. The servers were all so welcoming with bright smiles in the morning. I was seated quite immediately and was offered a menu. My server explained the menu and I elected to order the breakfast package of hot coco with freshly squeezed orange juice with freshly baked croissants and toast with butter and jam on the side and ham and cheese omelet with fresh salad on the side. my orders were serve on a timely manner and it was all so good and perfect. Came into Café George when doing some shopping in the area cause you know how shopping makes one hungry. I did look pretty packed at first but we were able to get a table no problem. Once seated we looked over the menu. I noticed at first that all drinks were pretty pricey which makes sense for the area it is in. Food prices were not as bad but still higher then most. I will say they really have a little bit of everything on the menu. For sure was not expecting to see pizza but it was a touristy area so I get it. I went with the Ham and Cheese Crepe since we had been talking about getting one but hadn't seen it. Our food same out shortly and wow they really load the crepe up with cheese and it came out real hot too which I like and of course they had some of their amazing mustard on the table which was nice and spicy. I will say the crepe itself was thicker then I expected it to be and didn't have that much flavor to it either and not much ham but again the melty large about of cheese here really saved it for me. When I'm in Paris, I make it a point to stop at Café George five at least once. The wait staff are super friendly and they have an English menu for us Non-French speaking visitors. I love sitting outside and watching the people go up and down while eating. They make the best French onion soup which of course here in France is only called onion soup. A special place with great energy and kind staff. Le George V provides a smart amount of care from each of their staff members and with a smile. Many might overlook this spot because it's directly on Champs Èlysèes but you must give this restaurant and try. The portions are large and the Croque Monsieur extremely wonderful. They also have a seasonal cocktail that is wonderful so ask for this and try it blindly as they are always very very good. The energy of this place is true Parisian cafe culture and the quintessential ambiance for your trip to Paris. I prefer this for a final meal before heading to the airports or boarding the metro and I suggest you make it part of your Paris story while visiting next. read more

Not a good dining experience. We went here over the weekend in July during the afternoon. The food was mid, but what ruined our experience were two things. First, the waiter asked whether we wanted to tip 10% or 20%, which we found odd considering tipping is more optional in France and normally the customer gets to choose how much they'd like to tip based on the service, not the other way around. We verbally authorized a 10% tip, but when we later looked at the final receipt it showed a 20% tip. By the time we noticed, it was too late as we had left already - a fault on our part. But the waiter was holding the card machine the entire time and didn't show us the screen - another red flag. Second, they usually serve small dishes of complimentary olives before ordering food. Both tables next to us received this dish, but our table did not. Don't know if race played a factor (we aren't Caucasian) or if our waiter forgot. Great location on the Main Street of Champs Elyses, right across from Louise Vuitton. After being treated badly from Washington Poste, this was great service. When we arrived, we were shown to a few tiny tables near the front for our party of six. Fortunately, our French relatives picked up on the slight and explained things to them in a friendly, colloquial French sort of way. We were then reseated in the back. The food here isn't bad (photos). Our group ordered everything from Steak Tartare, to Duck, to grilled steak, to Croque Monsieur and Madame. All were very good. But when we went to order dessert, our server decided he only wanted to show the Dessert Tray to one end of our long table. Again our relatives intervened in French. LOL. Ahh, to be in Paris. I stopped in here while strolling the Champs-Élysées way back in 2011. Was touring Paris with my mother and brother during the holiday season and the restaurant happened to have an open table to seat us even though it was very busy. From what I can recall, I believe I had a hotdog with fries (a very bougie hotdog on a baguette, I might add), and my mom had a salad. Couldn't tell you what my brother ordered. Our waiter was very kind and it was just so great to sit and people watch since the Champs-Élysées is so active. Amazingly, I even got a small print of the Champs-Élysées with the Arc de Triomphe in the background, and Café George happened to be featured in it. Although this is a tourist trap as it's located right next to the Arc de Triomphe on Champs Elysees street, they do provide good service and good food. As it's convenient for most tourists who are visiting Arc de Triomphe that want to sample some french foods and don't want to pay the prices from the cafe across the street, this is a good place to get most of classic French food such as lamb, escargots, boeuf bourguignon, pastas and french fries. We came for their breakfast. I had a satisfying chocolate drink and a delicious salmon crepe. Both of these are very French. I just regretted that I didn't have a chance to have breakfast at Angelina Paris that has the world renown creamy hot chocolate. Maybe next time. My friend got their omelette and he was very satisfied with his meal. The prices were reasonable especially with the strong dollars. It always frustrates me when I am so hungry I forget to take pics until it's too late! This was one of those situations. So Cafe George V is on the main street and where all the tourists are lurking. You assume that because it's tourist central, everything will be overpriced, gross and crowded. I was pleasantly surprised to find this place reasonably priced, good and reasonably crowded. I also think a bit of context matters when you eat at a restaurant like this...meaning, do you really expect it to be NOT crowded? The food was tasty, decent priced, and good portions. I had a ground steak (basically a hamburger) with egg and fries. It definitely needed salt, but was cooked well and portioned well. The rest of the family ordered and were all happy with the meals. Seating was tight as we were sitting in the very back of the restaurant and couldn't get out without people moving chairs. But not a big deal. The wait staff was friendly. The ambiance was nice. The restrooms definitely needed a cleaning. Overall, I can't complain. This place was a great choice for a quick dinner before a long walk on Champs de Elysse. Happy we tried it! read more

Is it possible to find a bad meal in Paris? Not on our trip. We chose Cafe George V because of its location, in the heart of the French fashion district. The Champs Elysees was bursting with traffic and people bustling about, so naturally we chose curbside dining. Like all the Paris restaurants we visited, English is spoken. We can't get enough escargot or onion soup, so they preceded our dinners of steak tartare and boeuf bouguingnon. A cheese platter and dessert rounded out the meal. The onion soup was very tasty, I give it a solid 4. There was less broth overall than I would like, but it had great flavor. Best I have had so far this trip, this is the 3rd I've had. The club poulet left a bit to be desired for me. It came out presented well, but the chicken isn't freshly cooked so that is a non- starter for me. The salad was ok. Lettuce looked fresh but I didn't love the dressing. It was good enough, but not great. The hot chocolate was yummy. When I go next time I am going to try the crepes. Our server, Laurent, was super friendly and accommodating. He moved us to a table next up front because we wanted watch to people watch while eating. This was a great spot for lunch on the Champs-Elysees. We really overthought it and walked a ton looking at all the menus on every cafe. We wished we had just stopped at Cafe George V from the start. Their menu had a good selection, and the prices were reasonable. As it was raining, we opted for an indoor table. It was cozy and warm inside, and service was excellent. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, escargot (my starter), French onion soup (my husband's started), and a croque monsieur (shared). It was the perfect amount of food, and everything was really good! They also brought a large basket of bread, which is a must for dipping for the escargot and the soup. Was it the absolute best French meal I ever had? No...but it was really solid, especially for lunch. And the Dijon mustard on the table was the BEST mustard I have ever eaten. I wish I had asked what brand it was. I ate it on everything!! Visit Benjamin at George V if you're ever in Paris. This review is only for Benjamin's excellent service and the desserts. He is the best waiter and is very knowledgeable about the menu. Benjamin was attending to 10 other tables, but made us feel as we were his only customers. All with a smile a few jokes! He was very attentive and quickly served us our food and drinks. We visited the restaurant for drinks and crepes, however Benjamin brought the dessert platter to us and explained the items with great detail, we changed our minds and ordered the praline chocolate mousse and strawberry tart. I should have read the reviews especially Karen's review 2 months ago. The same exact thing happened to me. I ordered the salmon off the menu and the waiter insisted the special of the day a white fish is so so much better. I should have caught on when the waiter was trying to tell my wife the special steak is from France and so much better then the one is was ordering but at least she stood her ground and stuck with the steak from the menu so tourist beware not to get the special unless you ask how much it cost. My salmon would have been 26 euros but my white fish was 56 euros and was so small compared to the salmon I saw another lady eating and beware when asking for water cause they will sell you bottle water read more

Walking along the Champs Elysées on a Sunday afternoon, we were ready for some coffee and dessert. As it was a nice day, most places were sold out for outside seating, George V was no exception & they were busy. We took a table inside close to the front of the restaurant. Cappuccino was strong and nicely balanced between espresso and milk. Crepes were also ordered. We enjoyed the Nutella/Banana but the Grand Mariner Crepe sounded better than reality. It was a Crepe with a sprinkle of the Liqueur (wouldn't order again). This flavor is better with Nutella mixed with Grand Mariner as I've had in other spots. That said the Chocolate Opera Cake was amazing! Rich layers of chocolate and very light cake. Our server was attentive and friendly and took good care of us. An embarrassment to French Cuisine. Bavette was such poor quality, it was too tough even though we had it medium rare. Plus, the bread for the table was so stale and tough, it made me appreciate the steak more. The server we had was friendly and all, but when I told him that the steak was tough, all he said was ,"It's a classique" and shrugged. I guess he loves his steak like rubber.
