Starlight Flight - Downtown Dallas on a Starlight Flight Tour!

    Starlight Flight

    (15 reviews)

The Perfect Way to See Dallas from 1,500 Feet Low & Slow…read more My Friends and I wanted to do something different, so we thought getting in a Cessna and seeing Dallas at night would be cool. AND IT WAS! The three of us travel a lot for our jobs and fly in and out of DFW so this would be a bit different perspective. We arrived at Addison Airport and were greeted by our pilot Alex. Alex did a great job showing us the preflight and all that goes into getting a Cessna ready. Alex did a great job showing us around the aircraft during the pre-flight and explaining why an airplane is not like a car and you cannot just turn the key. I sat in the back, because I fly Cessna's I wanted to let my friend who had never been in a small plane sit at the controls. I am going to go off on a tangent here; the rich got it made with the whole flying private! Okay back to my review! We were buckled in and started taxing around 8pm. So it was going to be a night flight for sure. Right after take-off, we were flying over Dallas Love Airport. It was cool to see a Southwest 737 landing right under you. We flew over to Jerry World and Rangers Park; it was a perfect day to fly! Visibility was great. As we were flying over to Arlington we could see all the aircraft flying into and out of DFW. We then turned towards downtown Dallas. To see the skyline up close and all light up is amazing! My photos do not do the actual experience justice. As we worked our way back to Addison we flew over The Star in Frisco and Plano. So think about this real quick the next time you are stuck in DFW traffic; we flew from Addison to Arlington and back with time to do some circles around Frisco in under an hour. Try that that in your car! After we touched down we thanked our pilot for a great tour. We went home and reviewed our photos from a great time! So here is why I would recommend Starlight Tours. 1. If you have never flown in a small Cessna before this would be a great reason for you to. 2. Perfect way to show DFW to family and get some cool points. 3. If it is just amazing to see DFW from the air. 4. Try to do your flight on a clear day during sunset. I'm sure that would be amazing! Our night flight was cool, but sunset would be awesome! So there you go! Because I am a pilot, I will end by saying if you have a kid that is interested in flying. This would be a perfect way to show them what flying is all about.

This school took my money and gave me a very basic ground school it was basic. When questioned by…read morean airline pilot before I took the oral test about the systems, he asked me real life system scenarios, I was not able to respond well with the scenarios we only knew rote basic knowledge about the aircraft, not a working knowledge according to this particular United Pilot's assessment of my knowledge, although I passed the check oral with the FAA with flying colors. When it got to the simulator portion, I was treated very badly in the aircraft, the instructor screamed and yelled, and started the sim over again every 30 seconds while criticizing and berating me. My sim time was 11am to 3am, and I was always last up as Captain. My co-pilot who was a teacher for the Air Force on the C130's tried to step in and stop the instructor. I was never able to do a full take-off and climb to altitude without being stopped and criticized. The instructor started and stopped the sim every 50 or 60 seconds, there was no way to get hands on experience or feel the exercises in the simulator at all, there was no TRAINING, it was an exercise in starting and stopping the sim. It probably was because I was a woman. The copilot tried to take over for the instructor and help me and indicated during a break that this was wrong instructor behavior and treatment My partner then changed to a U2 pilot from the Air Force. When he played Captain in the left seat, the instructor berated him and stopped him so many times that the U2 pilot turned around and screamed: "My cockpit, my airplane, get off my back and let me fly!" The instructor did so. When I tried that, the instructor just said I was not very nice to him and I should be yelling at the Captain not at him stopped the sim and said that he thought that i was out of line. This was the most belittling experience I have ever had in an airplane. The instructor was trying to wash me out I think and trying to belittle and berate me. If that was the test of my nerves in an aircraft I would understand it if I was allowed to fly, that is ok, but not letting you get your hands on the airplane and fly it, and then not be able to take off or perform one single approach to a landing looked very deliberately like discrimination to me. I am a woman pilot and have always trained and studied very hard and received the Judith Resnick Award from Nasa, and many scholarships for flying. This was so negative and caustic. I was told that it was going to take about 10-15 more hours in the airplane at $1000 an hour to finish me up to the check ride level. I would have to pay for the right seat AND the left seat costs to finish up, that was downright criminal and tantamount to theft. The owner of the flight school would not call me back when I called him and left a message. He would not email me back, he would not contact me when I left him voice mails, and front desk messages. I texted the schedulers and they would not text back. The only way to contact schedulers was by after hours text, they would never respond to my email. There was one instructor for ground school who made fun of women in the airplane stating that they had to put in a fake temperature gauge into the kitchen area for the women flight attendants because they complained about the temperature in the cockpit so much so they gave them a phony gauge, and they painted it pink. Wow...the only place that is the last bastion of male chauvinist pig-dom is aviation. I would like for the company to refund my money. As of this writing the owner has not contacted me at all, I guess he knows what goes on at his school. I would like my money back for the whole training and the hotel and flight to get there and home. I was really disgusted and felt cheated and taken for a ride. Never get your type rating here, go to Pan Am Academy.
