No warm welcome for us. The beds had very thin bedding--I wore my coat to bed because it was still so chilly in the room. I asked for a room near the entrance door because we had a puppy, but we were given the end of the hall and not allowed to use the emergency doors. The tv didn't work well--lots of static and jumping picture. Overall, I was cold and annoyed for getting cheated. Don't be afraid to stay, just don't expect much and bring a blanket and pillow.

From the moment I stepped inside the staff were friendly, empathetic, and accommodating. They made check in easy and quick so I could go right to my room. The accommodations were also top notch! Everything was clean, fresh, and felt brand new. The rooms are really a step up with the king size bed, chaise lounge and ample space. I highly recommend the space for someone needing a home away from home while working. The next day, I had to checkout by 11am, yet my ride hadn't arrived from out of town. The staff were kind to answer questions, let me sit outside on the patio and inside when it rained. They offered me a bathroom and water and still treated me as a valued guest. I can't go on enough about the quality of the hotel or the staff who made me feel relaxed during a trying ordeal in an unfamiliar town. I will be seeking them out in the future not out of necessity, but because these are the kind of places I feel welcome and want to support. If there is any tiny ding it would be the warmth of the room when I got there. On an 80 degree day my room thermostat was at 79. Not quite the reprieve I wanted. But the in room AC system had it down to 67 within an hour so it wasn't worth taking a star from this 5 star hotel. :)

Nate, the employee who greeted me, was so kind. They did not have any rooms available and he was extremely apologetic. I went to use their restroom and I came back and he had called the other hotels in the area and found one right down the street that had a room! I was so incredibly grateful since it was not at all safe to drive further. A few moments later as I was about to leave. He asked me to wait a moment and had received a text from the owner who had given me permission to use a room that apparently is normally not available on the reservation system. The room was clean, quiet, and I got a really sound night's sleep. I am so grateful to Nate for helping me. Had he not helped me find a room, whether it was at his hotel or the hotel down the street that I was not aware even existed, I would have had to sleep in my car. Thank you to Nate and Econolodge for your kindness.

We had a wonderful queen room that looked out over the side Street so we could see our motorcycle parked below. It was the Fourth of July and we kind of worried that someone might mess with my husband's Harley. OK, he worried about that LOL. We rolled into town late afternoon after a 7 hour ride, it was super hot, and we were so happy to get into our nice cool, clean room with bottled water and refrigerator where we could stash some beer. Stephanie had called and left a message on the way letting us know that no one would be there to check is in and how to access our room. It was super easy, and we appreciated the social distancing. People in town we're wearing masks outside and restaurants were open & the people in the restaurants working there were wearing masks. All in all, I feel like Michigan felt really safe for someone like me who has an auto immune disease and so therefore needs to be more careful than regular folks. But I think everybody needs to be careful now, let's be real. The Ramsdell Inn is in an old bank, very cool building with a lot of history. The room we had was decorated to reflect the era, our bed was a big wooden one, with fresh clean linens and plenty of pillows. We also had a very striking fireplace that we obviously would never use in July but it was it was cool. We were up and out the door by 7 AM to catch the ferry back to Milwaukee So we appreciated the granola and kind bars that were left in our room for us. We really weren't in this lovely inn or the town for very long but we loved it. And we will be back.

It was furnished with so many cool, thrifted knickknacks, paint-by-number paintings, out-of-print books, old games and -- the best part -- a VCR with VHS tapes! Yes, people. You, too, can curl up on the vintage leather couch and watch a VHS of 1997's hit war romance Life is Beautiful (or Rocky III or 39 Steps, or one of the other two dozen tapes available in the cabin). Everywhere we looked as we explored the cabin, there was something new to see and be delighted by. The Cadillac is the largest cabin at this vacation cabin property. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a fully furnished kitchen with a gas range, farmhouse sink, new "vintage" refrigerator and a pour-over coffee maker with local coffee. It also has a large dining table, vintage leather couch and recliner to curl up in while watching that VHS movie of your choice. Or if you're not into old-school media, there's also Roku on the smart TV. Children will be delighted by the special kids nook that has been created just for them, which includes classic books and games, and a vintage record player with kids records. It turns out that all of the cabins, not just The Cadillac, are decorated with their own unique vintage furniture and knickknacks. There are 10 cabins on the property. Outside, guests are invited to enjoy a community fire pit and lawn games. There's also a covered shed with firewood that you can purchase for a few dollars. (You pay on the honor system by slipping some cash into a slot.) The cabins are located less than four miles away from downtown Cadillac. There is no one on site at the property, so you work with the owner via email to set up your stay. They will give you the combination to get into your cabin, and if you have any problems, they're only a phone call/text away. It was a very low-key, relaxing stay. I 100% recommend staying at Mackinaw Timbers if you want a unique lodging experience in the Cadillac area.

For the slopes, they had so many lines for all different level of skiing. They had multiple sides to the mountain and even had a bar at the top that offered alcohol, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and even chili and hot dogs. I am at a beginner level and the green lines were still a tad more difficult, but everyone going down looks out for everyone. I was very impressed with the ski patrol as a fell quite a few times and they were there to check on me. The area itself was very clean and again, everything is easily walkable. I noticed an outdoor playground for the kiddos when it's warmer out to play on. The food options here are good. Almost everywhere was a bit crowded, but we were able to wait for our food and then take it back to the Airbnb. I was very impressed with this place on every level. I will be coming back and staying longer next time.
