I recently had a manicure appt at Mai- Le nails which is right next door to Cadeaux. While I was waiting on my friend who was going to join me for a manicure, I decided to pop into Cadeaux since I had an extra ten minutes to spare.
This shop carries a selection of antiques, home decor accessories and chocolates and while the store itself is charming, the owner is not. In fact, the owner is quite rude to say the least.
While I would say I was dressed pretty casual in Lululemon capri length yoga pants and some flip flops, I was also running errands that day, had a hair appointment that morning at Osgood O'Neil and knew I was going to get a manicure and pedicure at Mai-Le so I didn't feel the need to get super dressed up. It was also 102 outside. The owner basically followed me around his store like I was going to steal items and put them in my Tod's handbag and run off. I found this annoying, but what do I know, maybe he has had issues in the past with shoplifting.
While I was shopping, he made sure to mention no less than ten times that all his items are exquisite imports and one of a kind and that he does not understand women in Dallas and their obsession with buying cheap items from Homegoods/ Ross/ Garden Ridge. Not that I am a huge fan of any of the stores he mentioned, but there is nothing wrong with Homegoods/ Ross/ Garden Ridge if that is what you like. His comments were so left field and out of nowhere since I never once asked any questions about any of the items that would prompt any such response from him. I finally found a pair of earrings I liked, and purchased them along with some chocolate truffles.
The truffles weren't exactly cheap, but I figured that since they were supposed to be of superior quality and handcrafted of the finest cocoa and ingredients they would be worth it. The truffles were awful. They tasted like dirt and were grainy, not smooth. I've had better chocolates from an Airport gift store.
The earrings that I bought broke when I took them out of the box to show my friend while I was at Mai-Le. As soon as I finished my nail appointment I went back over to Cadeaux to see if I could exchange them. Since there was no other earrings that were the same and I didn't like anything else I asked for a refund. That is when the owner basically went into a rant about how I purposely broker the earrings! Why on Earth would I purposely break something I just bought? The owner refused to give me a refund and told me that I could have a store credit. I took the store credit, but only after I was told that I was insulting him and that I was rude. Go figure. Needless to say, that I won't be going back even though I have a store credit.
If you're looking for antiques you can do much better at Forestwood or Lover's Lane Antiques. There is nothing that unique or special at Cadeaux. Save yourself a headache and go somewhere else. read more
