Man, I wanted to like this place so bad. The atmosphere is nice, but when I came in on an early Saturday afternoon, me and my boyfriend were the only people there which is never a good sign. We were greeted by a nice lady and seated. Our waiter came by and gave us the menu without asking what we would like to drink. It took her a while to come back, but when she did she asked what we'd like to drink, and took our drink orders. We were waiting a while so we were able to decide what we wanted to eat. We ordered the queso dip as an appetizer, and the birria tacos. Let's start with the chips and salsa. The chips were a bit on the stale side and the salsa was bland. No spice, just a hint of tomatillo and that's it. I still ate it tho cause I was hungry. Our queso came out and I was excited. It was lukewarm and also.. bland. There was no spice, not very cheesy, kind of lackluster. It was a sad queso. Our tacos came out like 2 minutes after, and I had to remind the waitress about our drinks lol. The birria tacos sucked, and I'm sorry to say that. :( I opened two of mine, and there was barely any meat, mostly the fat of the meat. I had to take that out cause I do not like fatty pieces of meat. The dip was very bland, the tacos were nothing special, just an over all bland experience. The waitress was kind of bugging too, her service wasn't the best, I'm sorry but it's the truth. I cant stand when I get a waiter who's dry, it makes me not excited to eat there. So overall, this place gets a one star from me. There were no redeeming qualities other than the Mexican decor. The food was bland, the service was bland, everything about this place was bland. Stopping reading and come now! I happened to stumble upon the Cactus Grill as I was on my way to Panera. The words "authentic Mexican" caught my attention. Having watched food programs where people are grubbing on real Mexican cuisine, I wanted the same or a similar experience for myself. Only a very small part of their menu is Tex Mex. And no offense to Tex Mex but I always prefer the real thing over any Americanized version. I had the lengua taco, al pastor taco, and chorizo taco. All were delicious. The place looks festive upon entry, but with overly loud music (can't easily conversate), and there was only one other person eating or waiting on their check on a Friday afternoon at lunchtime. I had the Enchiladas and Wife had the Shrimp Tacos. The food was ok, but for some reason the cooks like to squirt mayonaise across the dishes...gross. it's not something I expect on traditional Mexican dishes. The service was ok; had to flag down the waitress with no one else in the restaurant. One table was dirty with dishes when I walked in and it took about 20 minutes or more to clean it up. Remember there's no one else around eating. If the tables aren't properly cleaned, I start to question the food preparation and storage. Had a hiccup with a Groupon, but was fixed by the server. We went there for Father's Day, we have 3 and 1 year old and they charged them 11 dollars each for the buffet and 25 per person for a buffet that did not have all of the foods advertised, the food was cold or room temp, and did not taste good. Tex-Mex and Mexican food fans, there's a new place in town. I came to check it out for lunch and was really happy with the food. Then I got more excited when I noticed that they are open early for breakfast - a meal I will definitely be back for! Lunch started with chips and salsa - something like a verde salsa, but light and smooth. The chips have a solid corn flavor and great texture to carry the salsa. I ordered crispy and soft Tex-Mex ground beef tacos. They came with refried beans and rice. The beans had excellent flavor, but the rice was a little bland, almost sweet for my tastes. The tacos, however, were on point! They reminded me of the taco places I frequented in Texas. Simple and delicious. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu selections! read more

will never go back. soupy beans, bring a straw. cold food and the shredded cheese was still in shreds. some of it looked like the over microwaved it, or pulled it off the floor. the photos say it all. not good. could not eat it, didnt quite trust it. the staff was rude, ignoring and just soo busy hitting on men at the counter we could not compete to get our silverware. guess they want us to eat with our hands? no napkins. maybe this is a covid thing, you know, no one will work anymore... but close the doors then. better to not serve food than to serve crap. we really were hoping to find that great place of authentic food to go to, had some great ones in Milwaukee. maybe my spanish was not good enough to eat here. read more

Had lunch with co workers here today. I had three Street Tacos, 2-asado, 1-pollo. Just average taste on all three, mostly meat not a lot of veggie is what I think they missed on. The missing veggies lessened the flavor profile and the textural crunch imho. I had to poor one their "hot" sauce to get flavor. Ashame because the place is decorated that screens fun/Mexico. Service was slow as they had only one waitress and it was getting busy: at least four tables of 2-4 people arrived after we sat down. Food was also a little slow to come out. read more

Food is amazing! My dinner companion had the shrimp fajitas and I had the mole pollo dish...both were delicious! This was our first time visiting the Cactus Grill. We WILL be back! The food here is homemade! We had salads which were out of this world. Super fresh, tasty and just the right amount of heat. I had the chorizo which too was homemade and super good! They also make their own tortillas by hand and they too were delicious. They have a well stocked bar with a great selection of beer. We've ordered from this place weekly since the Summer and have sampled a decent amount of the menu. Food is excellent, no complaints. My husband loves their tamales. They are substantive and not mushy. From the start, they have always had a consistency issue. We would order the same dish separate weeks and they would be a little different each time. I figured this was because they were a new place. Lately they have been leaving ingredients off of dishes as they are advertised on their website (beans, guacamole, etc) more and more frequently. Lately, we have had an issue with ordering from their website. The last few times I have come to pick up my food, it seems like they had not even started the order. I'll go with a solid 4 stars. We walked in and were greeted by multiple people! Eating in? Choose your table! They have TVs and a small bar in the back. The salsa is a green salsa and has a delicious flavor and a nice kick. I couldn't stop eating it. Hubby ordered soft taco combo with chicken. Red rice had good flavor and refried beans were good. He ended up with hard shell but he was hungry and didn't care to send it back. I got the Tex-Mex Burrito with steak. Definitely decent. The rice is a cilantro white rice, black beans, pico, meat and cheese. I failed to order sour cream, if you want it, make sure you ask. It literally came as just a burrito. I think I'll ask for red rice in the future because I love the flavor. The presentation was lack luster but they use a romaine/iceberg lettuce combo which I prefer. We have gotten take out from here three times so far during the pandemic. They are very clean and as the rules and regulations change they are up to date with the changes. Masks required, social distancing lines on the floor, etc. They are very accurate with the time estimates when we have called the orders in. The carne asada torta and mango habanero wings have been my favorite thing. We are trying different things and I like them all but I have not had something I enjoy as much as the carne asada torta. Charro beans are also very good. We are going to keep trying different things just in case I can find something better. I highly recommend giving them a try. read more

I grew up in Southern California on homemade authentic Mexican food. I make homemade tortillas, tamales and lots of Mexican dishes from scratch. So I'm a tough critic when it comes to restaurant mexican food. I was thrilled the first time I had lunch here. The sopes are amazing! Everything i have had here is delicious. They offer authentic recipes that you rarely see outside of mamas kitchen. The place is rather small but clean and colorful. The staff are friendly knowledgeable . The prices are reasonable and the quantity of food ensures you won't leave hungry! I've ordered both for pickup and delivery without any problems.
