It had been one of those days, so I can't tell you how much I wanted to believe their claim to have the best Margaritas in town! Unfortunately both the House and Anniversary Margaritas were sickeningly sweet, without any of the tart bite that I crave in a Margarita. My dining companion agreed, and we sent them back. But the food was very good, starting with thin crispy chips and good salsa, and ending with the Chicken Avocado Enchilada, topped with a jalapeño cream sauce...delicious! However, Mexican food and Margaritas are inseparable for me, so I can't give them any more than three stars. One thing to know: They don't take reservations, but they will take a "call ahead"... I don't understand the difference, but I got a table almost as soon I got there, despite the fact that my friend wasn't there yet. Which brings me to one other tip...the restaurant is tucked way back in the back of the very jumbled strip mall across Roe east of Town Center, so there is no way you can see it from the street. it was fine. the chips and salsa were great! the serving plates were cool. the service was a little scattered. the food was fine, the rice kind of bland. the chicken was good but it tasted out of place, not very authentic "Mexican" styling. it came out crazy fast after we ordered, before the waiter even got us our drinks! i would be fine never coming here again though. underwhelming, but not bad. read more

Ordered a crispy spinach and vegetable quesadilla from Cactus Grill in Leawood. At first everything was great, the quesadilla tasted good and was what I had expected to receive. When I took my leftovers the next day to work I took a bite and something hard, crunchy, and definitely not a vegetable (in a vegetarian item) was in my quesadilla. I'm not normally one to write a negative review, however after biting into the unidentifiable bit in my food, I had lost my appetite and did want to continue eating as it was off putting. read more

Ok so this is not fine dining but certainly more than a fine dining experience. My wife and I ate here yesterday (late lunch/early dinner) and I have to say I was EXTREMELY impressed! First of all, I have to echo Bob D's sentiment about Karen the manager, because before I committed to eating here, I asked her about the gluten-free options, since my wife has a gluten allergy, and she surprised me with a gluten-free menu that went into some depth of explanation, which I REALLY appreciated! We got the heck out of a very nearby dining establishment that we thought had offered good gf options but sadly, no, and found ourselves loving Cactus Grill! And believe me, had the food and service not been great, I wouldn't have cared that much about the gluten-free options. But both food and service were excellent. We ate at the bar, and Ryan, our bartender and server, could not have been more gracious, personable, helpful, and kind. This guy treated us like royalty. He didn't have to go out of his way to be so accommodating but he was really on his game, acknowledging us quickly, giving us just the right amount of time to look at drinks and order them without waiting too long, and just timing everything perfectly. And since we are talking about a bartender, I completely disagree with the usual "margaritas are too sweet" criticism that I've seen in previous reviewers. I am one of the people who usually dislikes a too sweet margarita like everyone else, but I didn't find the margarita too sweet here at Cactus Grill, I found it just right. And let's add not too salty as well. It may have come out of mix, I don't know, but it was good. The Espinaca Con Queso was one of the best ones we've had in years. Not too thick, not too watery, not too spicy, great flavor, I'm still thinking about it. I mean, we'll definitely return to this place and I'll want to try other appetizers but I'm going to find myself asking "how could we not order the espinaca?" It was memorable. And the tortilla chips were warm and crispy. Even the salsa was good. I had the enchiladas with New Mexico Red Chile sauce (one cheese and onion, one chicken) and both were excellent. Just the right amount of cheese, just the right amount of sauce atop (not drowning in sauce like some restaurants serve them), great flavor, they really hit the spot. My wife loved her chicken tacos (yeah, Cactus Grill can serve them in a little aluminum taco holder just like the fancy places, take that!) too. I thought both the black beans and the cilantro rice were excellent side dishes. The great service and excellent food stand on their own merit. But pushing this restaurant over the top is the EVERY day happy hour, making it an incredible value. So to summarize, great food, outstanding service, gluten-free options, and daily happy hour. This could easily become a go-to restaurant for us. read more

Delicious food. Best chips and queso I have had in a long time. The signature flautas were perfectly crispy and seasoned.

When we arrived, we were told to wait while they cleared our table. That was not an issue; however, when we were shown to our table, we realized that it had not really been wiped clean and there was a stack of dirty dishes sitting in the middle of it. Once we asked the waiter to remove the dishes he did, but we were still left without silverware until we nabbed some ourselves from the surrounding tables. That is just really poor service. The food itself was good, but there are plenty of other places to spend our money where the food is really good and the service is just as good! read more

We ordered the nachos to share but honestly couldn't stomach them today. Cold and stale hard cheese that we had to scrape off...they offered to remake it but we were disinterested in waiting another 30 minutes. Had a few bites and sent it back. Grand opening was Wednesday, they finally open up at 4pm, just not the same on the patio without lady there, some of the workers moved on or stayed at the other store, Jacob our favorite server was working at the other store and wanted back, always good to see him, the remodeling look different and better too, they have some new items and old items taken off the list, the regular customer are back and happy to see everyone and ask about certain one,all the staff went to work at different location so they don't loose the staff, the manager is back too , she is really a sweetheart and always ask about lady, pork rinds is new and good, around 6 pm the place got pack full of regular, then pin wheels are new on happy hours and it's delicious read more

My Monterey chicken burrito lunch (just $5.99 on Throwback Thursdays) was served with a smile just six minutes after I ordered, which gave me a little time to work on the complimentary chips (thin and crispy) and salsa (chunky and delicious). The black beans and Mexican rice were both delicious, and the burrito had a tasty and creamy melted cheese topping, but it contained just a fair amount of delicious grilled chicken chunks with additional rice. I LOVE the food and service. But the music in the bar side is AT or above normal conversation level, so I can't even hear my companions, let alone hear myself think. Everyone at tables even 20 feet away is yelling to be heard above the music. It's not just not relaxing, it's overwhelming. I don't pay to eat to hear other people yell, and to have my ears blown out. Music should be a background at a restaurant...this is not a club. They lose a lot of money from me (and others) because I would spend more time (and money) on apps, drinks, and other add-ons if it were relaxing in here, and if I could hear people. read more

Not the best Mexican there is but overall pretty good. Used to go here all the time growing up and since then they have changed their menu just a bit. Service is okay, never terrible. It is a very popular place to go so there is typically a wait especially on Friday or Saturday nights. Their espinaca dip is a must order when you go. I usually do the standard taco salad which is always good. Sometimes its a bit dirty and the tables could be wiped down better. The portion sizes are pretty big so i typically get leftovers from whatever I ordered. Parking can be crazy because it is close to other restaurants and a grocery store. Cactus is a neighborhood staple that is good for quick easy meal. read more

Just had dinner at Cactus Grill for the first time in since they added a variety of new menu items. The salmon salad was absolutely amazing. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the fresh berries and raspberry dressing were the perfect combination on top. Service was top notch from the polite hosting staff to the server. The manager even stopped by to ask how everything was and pointed out a few other must try items when we visit again. I can't wait to go back next week with my girlfriends for a ladies night. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in town! It was a beautiful day outside and we were looking for a place that we could have yummy food with a great outdoor seating area. We were offered free espinaca dip for being first time guests and it was absolutely delicious. Our waitress Megan did a great job making recommendations to us in each category. Went to Cactus Grill on a Monday night to get some Mexican food with my girlies. We were sat quickly and got our drinks fairly fast. After that, however, our service significantly slowed down and it took about 45 minutes for our food to get out and our chips weren't refilled until we asked. Our server didn't check up on us and I had an empty cup for most of our meal even after I asked for a refill on my Dr Pepper. The food was good but nothing spectacular. Our service from the waitress assigned to our table was the worst service I've ever received eating out. It's the 1st time I've eaten out since before pandemic. My bestie likes this place so we hauled ass out of Prairie Village and blew in here for a Saturday lunch. I am NOT a big fan of trying to get lunch in the shopping areas of Johnson County. It can get PRET-TY tedious but we got in here quickly, seated quickly and our server was a professional and polite young man who made sure we had chips and salsa, water and then drinks. The food didn't take long to come and the servings were substantial and piping hot. I had a cheese enchilada, a beef enchilada and a tamal with rice and beans. Delicious! Went here for a work lunch while we were interviewing a professional. They have a separate gluten free menu, its the same as Jose Peppers (I believe they have the same owner). Service was fine to start with, once we received our food the service seemed to disappear, I wanted some sour cream for my dry, bland tacos and the waiter never came back. We had 5 people at our table, all the orders were correct (surprising), food is bland and tasteless. Chips and salsa were plentiful, chips had good flavor and crunch. salsa could use some work. Very chunky and a little too tomatoey (yes this is a word in my vocabulary)!!! One of my co workers ordered a burrito bowl and he said it had too much lettuce on it...my crispy gluten free tacos needed something. The chicken was bland (probably b/c the only gluten free meat was the un-marinated chicken). I wouldn't order them again. Another co worker ordered a quesadilla and it seemed ok. This is very similar to its sister Jose Pepper. I used my member reward card & got free espinaca. They have brought back their 2 for 7 margaritas, decent margaritas for that price. I ordered the Carnitas Guac Nachos which is only a happy hour (4-6) menu item for $4. Great deal! 4 3.5 inch "nachos" with a pile of pork, black beans, corn, and a very tangy avocado sauce with a few chunks of cheese (not sure what kind). This is the second time I have eaten these for a good reason. I am addicted to the avocado sauce! I would request this sauce on many of my other dishes. read more
