What a cute and quaint candy shop! This place is filled to the brim with so many flavors of salt water taffy! There is the option to pick your own or to nab a pre-packed box. Besides taffy there was a whole stand of Harry Potter candies and chocolate along with a wall dedicated to old candies. By the register there are a variety of fudge flavors to choose from. The shop is small so I can only imagine how cramped people may feel going in during peak season. Also, I found that some textures of the taffy were off. Warning: Literally the worst saltwater taffy I've ever had. Weird texture (like its melted), and bad tastes. I love saltwater taffy and have had it from all over the country and northeast, and this is next to inedible it's so bad. I got one of every flavor and two of a few that I had to throw away. I spit basically everyone out except the peppermint. There is tons of other candy here that I'm sure is good, and the cost of the taffy was reasonable. I came here with a friend to buy saltwater taffy. We each came here for 30 pieces specifically for some reason. I also looked for some of my other favorite candies but wasn't able to find the gummy sharks that they usually have. I'll look next time I visit. In Truro, this is the best place to buy taffy because there are so many options. They have some of my favorite flavors there including chocolate, grape, lemon-lime, blue raspberry, and cotton candy. The store also has great prices. Thirty pieces of taffy were around four dollars. I'm happy. Kind of dangerous though because they have plenty of good options, but good for a "vacation diet, though. However, the texture is an issue -- high fructose corn syrup leaves an unpleasant film in the mouth, and this is what all of these taffy selections did, so was sad to just have to give these away to someone who doesn't mind that side effect. I'm sad to write this review, but I have to. I was in the store yesterday and bought a small bag of taffy to bring home to a friend who always loved Cabot's taffy. I tried one piece walking down the street, and I had to spit it out! It's nothing like the taffy used to be. It was so sticky once I chewed it, I was afraid it wouldn't come out of my mouth! Seriously: They have to be scraping pennies to make an inferior product. The ingredients have changed. Here's the sad part: I knew the Ciceros. I knew Judy's parents, George + Lillian. They would be horrified to see what's become of their product and their shop! The bag says "Sweet tradition since 1927"... Not "THEIR" tradition. I don't know where the current owners were in 1927, but they were nowhere near a taffy machine. I never ever would have said this back in the 70s, but: if you're in Provincetown and want some mouthwatering taffy, go somewhere else, but do NOT go to Cabot's! Truly sad about this. read more

Truth be told, the real reason we stopped into Cabot's was not for candy, but for a local's recommendation on where to eat in Provincetown. Our visit took place mid-November, so many of the restaurants were "closed for the season", which made tracking down a good bite to eat a bit tough. The staff at Cabot's was very friendly, and suggested a close by spot called The Canteen. We ended up purchasing some cute little lobster gummies and some salt water taffy. Both were delicious! While walking down the street with my family, I suggested fudge from Cabot's; one of my Aunts then said PFudge Factory (um, no.... please see my review for them) so we went to both and had a tasting and ultra-scientific contest later on. The girls working at Cabot's in the afternoon of September 11th were nice, had samples and happily bagged everything up (and kept out a piece for me to chomp on while we made our way down the street). Test results: Taste: Cabot's was the winner with the chocolate walnut, rocky road and penuche; all were smooth (as fudge should be). Aesthetics: Again, the winner! They have homemade salt water taffy and unique seaside themed candy. Lots of flavors of cotton candy. You can fill up a box or bag, or buy a prepackaged assortment. It tastes different from Atlantic City Saltwater taffy. There's also regular candy. Located on a corner it's hard to miss. There are two taffy sections, one by the entrance and one in the back left corner with different taffy flavors than in front. I have never been much of a fan of taffy. I don't like sticky foods/candies that get stuck in your teeth, and I don't have much of a sweet tooth. So I never ever buy taffy. Thank goodness someone bought some for our office and I bravely tried a piece. There's no way taffy everywhere can be this good. I tried the yellow wrapped candy first, hoping it was lemon, but to my surprise, the peanut butter was creamy and delicious. I tried a couple others as well and they were all awesome. This place is amazing, because they have so many selection for EVERYTHING. Fudge? So many to pick from. Miscellaneous candy? Even more. Salt water taffy? A MILLION CHOICES! I also like that they have a little booklet that tells you what each flavor looks like so you know what you are eating, but some of the flavors weren't in that booklet. You can walk into any old convenience store on the cape and buy a box of pre-mixed variety taffy - Cabot's has large bins full of independent flavors you can make your own bag with! Instead of suffering through the flavors you dislike, around $8/pound will get you a good amount of candy. I walked away with 3 pieces for $.75 (cranberry, watermelon, and strawberry). Im giving 4 stars because the taffy selection is amazing, but they do offer fudge and other assortments. Not as good of a selection, and you definitely don't want to be buying fudge in the dead heat & humidity of the summer, it just didn't work out for me! You can't go wrong with saltwater taffy and fudge. It is one of the things that the Cape is known for. As we entered the store, the smell of chocolate and caramel and all things delicious fill your nostrils. We were immediately greeted by the staff who were very nice and accommodating. They provided SAMPLES! Key word, FREE SAMPLES in both the taffy selection and fudge. I ended up purchasing a pound of taffy which I shared with my co-workers who raved about all the different flavors. The Rocky Road Fudge that I got was also pretty good. Gooey and marshmallow-y.
