CaboTrek isn't the biggest company in town. But they are very good at what they do. CaboTrek has marine biologist on the baby turtle release, whale watch trips, and other excursions. I wanted to use a company other than the big one in town to see how the the experience would be. CaboTrek respects the whales in giving them their space, and if there are a lot of boats to join in around the whales that they are watching, they the boat will move on to other whales. My wife and I took part in a baby turtle release, and a few whale watch trips with the deal on multiple whale watch trips. They are easy to book activities online or by phone. Our 1st activity the baby sea turtle release. We took a bus ride up the Pacific Ocean coast to the beach for release. The marine biologist in charge of project gave a presentation on the various turtle species, how they lay the eggs. Maria, a marine biologist with Cabo Trek, was our host with the company for the trip. She also helped with any questions, and assist the slowest turtles with a lift into the water after a while before the birds showed up. We went on a few whale watch trips the next 2 days. CaboTrek uses small boats with cover that can carry up to about 12 passengers. There is a marine biologist to answer any questions and take pictures. The 1st day was a very unique experience in that we had 2 whales decide to have curiosity fun with our boat and 2 others in putting on a show. These 2 whales spy hopped, fin slapped the water, tail slapped the water, full breach jumps, and swim under the boats several times. The 2nd day we saw momma and a baby humpback whale. The marine biologist estimated the baby to be about 2 or 3 weeks old. The baby decided to showoff for mom in jumping part way out of the water. This was a wonderful unusual experience to see. In the office Bee is great to work with in booking activities and any issues. The marine biologist are Andrea, Adrian, and Maria. They are all very knowledgeable about the ocean wildlife and nice. With small whale watch groups we got a more personable experience. The boat captains Adrian and Freddie are great in getting the boats around crowd at the Arch, and working around to find the whales for a wonderful whale watch trip. We will be returning in the future for more fun wonderful experiences. read more

I highly recommend Cabo Trek's Whale Watching tour!! I participated in this excursion a little before the official start to the whale watching season (which begins Dec 15) but we saw plenty of whales, dolphins and marlin. This tour company is timely - after checking in we were asked to be back by 8:55am for our 9am tour, and we were walking to the vessel very shortly after. We wanted a tour that included the Arch and whale watching. We chose this tour as opposed to another tour that we were considering because there was more than 20 minutes of whale watching, and this tour WAS WORTH IT!! Towards the end of our time we'd located a small group of whales that were showing off with belly slaps and breaching...and our guides stuck around so that we could see them repeatedly so this instead of rushing us back to the pier because we were at time. read more

On this trip, we not only got to see lots of grey whales including several sightings of a mama-baby pair, but also got to eat some of the best food of our Los Cabos vacation! Our biologist guides were Andrea from Spain and Maria from Peru. They drove the 6 of us from Hotel Tesoro to a tiny family-owned hotel and dining hall that was a short walk from the Port of Lopez Mateos. About an hour up the coast, we stopped at the best restaurant of our Los Cabos trip for breakfast. It was called Lonchera La Garrita in Todos Santos. They brought out a salsa and fried panela cheese tray with chips. The two of us shared a huge chilaquiles plate with red and green sauces and refried beans. Others had the most luscious looking tamales (moist and covered with a fantastic red sauce), chicken picadillo smothered in red and green sauce with fried eggs, fruit platters, etc. Once we arrived at Restaurant Hotel Familiar, we got a fantastic home cooked meal of shrimp and fish tacos in homemade flour tortillas with chips and the best salsa of the trip. There was another group of 7 that met us there. The hotel itself was a bit run down looking, with finicky plumbing, but we quite enjoyed our stay. The plumbing was noisy when the hot water was on for showers, but quiet once they turned it off for the night and we slept well as the bed was comfortable. Then it was out onto the boats, after lunch on Day 1 and after breakfast on Day 2. I am glad they told us to bring warm clothes, as I ended up with wool hat and gloves, a long sleeve shirt under an alpaca sweater and windbreaker. Also glad we had scopolamine patches as it was rough in the area they call The Blender. The boats were small, allowing closer views, and felt extremely stable despite the waves. The whale sitings were amazing and we got some fairly close views of the blowhole area, barnacles, ridges along the tail and flukes. No babies yet because El Niño caused a low birth rate and they had only seen one baby the whole season. For dinner it was lobster tail and fish with salad with more chips and salsa. After an early awakening with breakfast at 6:15, we headed out again. Saw a lot more whales, including a mother-baby pair with usually a small spout followed by a large spout. At one point we were completely surrounded with spouts going around the clockface. We also saw a lot of dolphins and pelicans, cormorants, herons and frigatebirds. At lunch, which was more fish and shrimp tacos on handmade flour tortillas, one of the guys brought out a different salsa that was simply amazing, with a slow heat that built to a slightly higher heat than their regular salsa. As we dug in, he obviously got concerned that it might disappear and he took it away. Turns out he made it for his father in law to have with his lunch and just wanted to give us a taste. Then it was a 6 h drive back to our hotel. A fantastic excursion!! The only slight downside was that it was a bit tight for three people in the very back of the van, so we took turns sitting back there. We made friends on this trip and hope to keep in touch. Our bags were always secure locked either in the van, or in the hotel room during both boat rides. We had brought our rollaboards as we checked out of our hotel before this trip, but the other two couples just had overnight backpacks, and these bags just fit into the rather small space at the back of the van. I think they do have a larger van, if for instance, our group had filled to the maximum 8 per boat. I feel very comfortable with this company -- they went towards, but did not chase the whales or dolphins, and would book with Cabo Trek again. read more

I booked with Cabo Trek for the whale shark and group snorkel 3 months in advance of our travel date and received confirmation right away. If you book more than one excursion, you can get 10% off the 2nd one. So if you have a couple in mind, it makes sense to book the cheaper one first. Unfortunately due to global warming, the whale sharks are migrating later and later every year. Our whale shark excursion had to be canceled 2 days before we departed for our trip. Cabo Trek will do the whale shark excursion only if sightings are guaranteed and they were quick to refund our money right away. We were still able to do the group snorkeling tour with Andrea. Our party of 4 ended up having a private experience since no one else signed up that day. Andrea and the boat driver took us to see the "Arch" and the local Sea Lion colony, Lover's Beach, and Divorce Beach. We stopped at Pelican Rock for about an hour of snorkeling. I would recommend the 8am tour because as we left this area it was totally packed with boats and tourists. We were able to snorkel with some sea lions and lotsa fish. I was surprised how clear the water was in this area. It's too bad the water also got a bit rough and I got sea sick so I had to get back onto the boat. Andrea also took pictures and videos throughout the excursion. She showed everything to us when we got back to the Cabo Trek office. We decided to purchase all for $50 and it was totally worth it. We hope to come back to Cabo and do the whale shark experience next time. read more

We wanted to go to Cabo Pulmo after getting my open water certification, but Cabo Pulmo was fully booked for November. We came across Cabo Trek on Google search. Cabo Trek responded promptly that they can provide a private tour for us in Cabo Pulmo. A bit pricey at $1299 + tax, but we really wanted to dive in Cabo Pulmo. Philip is the owner of Cabo Trek. He accompanied/drove us to Cabo Pulmo himself. He was nice enough to pick us up from our hotel (which was in San Jose del Cabo- on the way to Cabo Pulmo) when requested. Having just gotten the open water certification, I was a little scared. I also did mess up the first dive (I needed more weights), but Philip was patient with me. He calmed me down when I got in the water again for the second dive. It can't be easy running a business for passion in a foreign country. We had 144 people from our destination wedding who went whale-watching together IN 10 DIFFERENT BOATS( we did not want ONE BIG BOAT)!!!! Philipp (the owner) did the MOST AMAZING JOB of getting this to HAPPEN!!! The planning and pulling off the logistics of such an event was an accomplishment that everyone attending truly appreciated. He organized everyone into groups of 14 - 16, had a printed table with our names and boat names laid out, got us on boats, got us off boats, loaded us in the roundtrip bus transportation, and it was a totally phenomenal seamless process. Every boat had a captain and a marine biologist or naturalist on board. We got great history and progress of whale conservation, migration and tracking. The teams have a lot of knowledge, passion, and love of the whales and the importance of our role in preserving the oceans on which they and we depend. Our own boat saw over 25 whales breaching, other boats saw babies jumping out. We were able to get up close and personal with sea lions, pods of dolphins swimming with our boat, and humpbacks. Our naturalist Pepe was very knowledgeable while still taking photos the entire time. The captain motored us around arches and sea lions, and we were near whales but not in their habitat; the crew were environmentally aware of the boat's influence on the whale's behavior. The intimate group setting made the sightseeing more enjoyable and gave us the opportunity to see the whales closer but at a safe distance for them than you would on a bigger boat. The knowledge that was explained to us throughout the time was interesting and educated us on how whales interact and live. The added bonus of getting all the photos taken of the whales during the trip was awesome. The naturalist's knowledge and our small passenger numbers made this an A+++ trip of a lifetime. read more

What we loved about this business is they limit how many people are in a boat. We only had 7 people on ours, which allowed us to move around and get incredible views and photos. We took a 2:30pm tour on a calm day to go whale watching with CaboTrek. We left on time with Yanu (marine biologist) loading us up on information. We went slowly past the arches and then sped off to get to the location. Freddie(captain) had eyes like a hawk, and this allowed us to see 20 or so whales. We were able to watch two males fighting for the female, a full breach, and a few days old baby swimming with her mom. The boat is a legit boat, not a small raft and the captain respected the whale's space every single time. That was not seen from a few other companies. After we made the trek back to the marina, our group exchanged videos and we went back to the store to purchase the pictures than Yanu took professionally. Well worth it!!! Between Phil, Yanu and Freddie, I would recommend CaboTrek over ANY other company to see whales and turtles. If you have not been in the Cabo marina, anyone with a raft will take you out; I suggest that you do your research beforehand. My parents and I went diving with Cabo Trek, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! It was just us 3 in the boat plus our dive master and the captain. The boat was very comfortable, perfect for diving. Our dive master, David, was great, he quickly realized that we were experienced divers and was able to tailor the dives to meet our needs and desires. The dives were incredible! We saw some white tip sharks, lots of schools of fish, rays, etc. we were very impressed by the quality of the dives. Our boat captain, Adrian (I might have forgotten his name) was very knowledgeable and attentive to our gear and needs. He checked our air tanks before helping us into the water and was very helpful in getting us out of the water. This was probably one of my best diving experiences, thanks to Cabo Trek! Cabo Trek knows what they are doing. Went on a whale shark tour and it was great. Met at Tesoro Hotel, Carlos the. drove us to La Paz, about 2.5 hours away. Stopped for a quick bite going up and a bathroom break. Continued to La Paz and was met by Hugo and we walked down to the ramp where we were to meet the boat. There 5 of us on this journey. Very knowledgable about the fish and gave us instructions. Provided wetsuits and fins and mask and snorkels. The weather was a bit breezy, but the water warm. Saw three whale sharks and got to swim next to them. They were 20' long. Quite spectacular! When we returned we went to lunch at a taco restaurant, very good. We had a great time with Cabo Trek snorkeling and whale watching out of Cabo. We were the only group at the snorkeling spot and a few of the divers in our group also dove. They divers found an octopus and us snorkelers found some interesting fish. We then cruised back to the Cabo bay and looked for whales. Phillip is wonderful!!!! My mom and I went on a tour with him to a Turtle Sanctuary and loved every bit of it! He is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. He also is very quick to respond and as accommodating as possible! He made an effort to get to know us and the environment was nice and relaxed and a very small group (4 total plus him), driven in a typical car which was nice and private. The turtle release was so amazing!!! First a marine biologist taught us about the troubles facing the turtles and how they work to conserve them, and then we walked along the beach at sunset to the nests where some had just hatched and we helped release them into the ocean safely. He also helped to point out countless other native species giving us a well rounded image. I would have loved to do more tours with him, but unfortunately time did not allow. This was a great experience and very impressed with Cabo Trek. The staff are amazing from booking to the guides. Our adventure was whale watching and we were thrilled to see several with two excellent flukes (tail shots). And, our guide was just awesome. With a master's degree in marine biology and a lovely personality, we learned so much about the whales, their life, migration patterns, etc. The tour also included up close views of The Arch, Lover's Beach, and the sea lions. There were many photo opportunities and a professional photographer was along for the ride to take your photo at The Arch, using your own camera. The boat ride itself was exhilarating! The hunt for the whales takes patience and the ability to handle a fast pace boat ride when needed. We enjoyed every minute of our excursion and would do it again! read more

I scheduled our tour with Cabo trek over a week ago for while my wife and are we're in Cabo on our honeymoon. The day before our tour ant 8:30pm I received an email saying they needed to move our tour from 2:30pm to 11am. I selected 2:30 because it's supposedly when the whales are most active. I was not willing to move our time as we had plans already scheduled, as I pressured the owner as to why we were being moved I was told that recently a private group wanted the tour at 2:30 and because that brought in more money we had to be bumped. I was extremely disappointed at the fact that the owner prioritized money over guest experience. Ultimately I cancelled and went to another company and had a great time. Would not recommend using this company ever. read more
