Basic room with comfortable bed
Love2Chow C.

On this trip, we not only got to see lots of grey whales including several sightings of a mama-baby pair, but also got to eat some of the best food of our Los Cabos vacation! Our biologist guides were Andrea from Spain and Maria from Peru. They drove the 6 of us from Hotel Tesoro to a tiny family-owned hotel and dining hall that was a short walk from the Port of Lopez Mateos. About an hour up the coast, we stopped at the best restaurant of our Los Cabos trip for breakfast. It was called Lonchera La Garrita in Todos Santos. They brought out a salsa and fried panela cheese tray with chips. The two of us shared a huge chilaquiles plate with red and green sauces and refried beans. Others had the most luscious looking tamales (moist and covered with a fantastic red sauce), chicken picadillo smothered in red and green sauce with fried eggs, fruit platters, etc. Once we arrived at Restaurant Hotel Familiar, we got a fantastic home cooked meal of shrimp and fish tacos in homemade flour tortillas with chips and the best salsa of the trip. There was another group of 7 that met us there. The hotel itself was a bit run down looking, with finicky plumbing, but we quite enjoyed our stay. The plumbing was noisy when the hot water was on for showers, but quiet once they turned it off for the night and we slept well as the bed was comfortable. Then it was out onto the boats, after lunch on Day 1 and after breakfast on Day 2. I am glad they told us to bring warm clothes, as I ended up with wool hat and gloves, a long sleeve shirt under an alpaca sweater and windbreaker. Also glad we had scopolamine patches as it was rough in the area they call The Blender. The boats were small, allowing closer views, and felt extremely stable despite the waves. The whale sitings were amazing and we got some fairly close views of the blowhole area, barnacles, ridges along the tail and flukes. No babies yet because El Niño caused a low birth rate and they had only seen one baby the whole season. For dinner it was lobster tail and fish with salad with more chips and salsa. After an early awakening with breakfast at 6:15, we headed out again. Saw a lot more whales, including a mother-baby pair with usually a small spout followed by a large spout. At one point we were completely surrounded with spouts going around the clockface. We also saw a lot of dolphins and pelicans, cormorants, herons and frigatebirds. At lunch, which was more fish and shrimp tacos on handmade flour tortillas, one of the guys brought out a different salsa that was simply amazing, with a slow heat that built to a slightly higher heat than their regular salsa. As we dug in, he obviously got concerned that it might disappear and he took it away. Turns out he made it for his father in law to have with his lunch and just wanted to give us a taste. Then it was a 6 h drive back to our hotel. A fantastic excursion!! The only slight downside was that it was a bit tight for three people in the very back of the van, so we took turns sitting back there. We made friends on this trip and hope to keep in touch. Our bags were always secure locked either in the van, or in the hotel room during both boat rides. We had brought our rollaboards as we checked out of our hotel before this trip, but the other two couples just had overnight backpacks, and these bags just fit into the rather small space at the back of the van. I think they do have a larger van, if for instance, our group had filled to the maximum 8 per boat. I feel very comfortable with this company -- they went towards, but did not chase the whales or dolphins, and would book with Cabo Trek again.

I booked with Cabo Trek for the whale shark and group snorkel 3 months in advance of our travel date and received confirmation right away. If you book more than one excursion, you can get 10% off the 2nd one. So if you have a couple in mind, it makes sense to book the cheaper one first. Unfortunately due to global warming, the whale sharks are migrating later and later every year. Our whale shark excursion had to be canceled 2 days before we departed for our trip. Cabo Trek will do the whale shark excursion only if sightings are guaranteed and they were quick to refund our money right away. We were still able to do the group snorkeling tour with Andrea. Our party of 4 ended up having a private experience since no one else signed up that day. Andrea and the boat driver took us to see the "Arch" and the local Sea Lion colony, Lover's Beach, and Divorce Beach. We stopped at Pelican Rock for about an hour of snorkeling. I would recommend the 8am tour because as we left this area it was totally packed with boats and tourists. We were able to snorkel with some sea lions and lotsa fish. I was surprised how clear the water was in this area. It's too bad the water also got a bit rough and I got sea sick so I had to get back onto the boat. Andrea also took pictures and videos throughout the excursion. She showed everything to us when we got back to the Cabo Trek office. We decided to purchase all for $50 and it was totally worth it. We hope to come back to Cabo and do the whale shark experience next time.

We went out 4 different times with different naturalists and different captains. All were outstanding and each time was fantastic. I love watching the whales and these folks will get you the best viewings. I will definitely go out with these folks again when I am in Cabo.

We had 144 people from our destination wedding who went whale-watching together IN 10 DIFFERENT BOATS( we did not want ONE BIG BOAT)!!!! Philipp (the owner) did the MOST AMAZING JOB of getting this to HAPPEN!!! The planning and pulling off the logistics of such an event was an accomplishment that everyone attending truly appreciated. He organized everyone into groups of 14 - 16, had a printed table with our names and boat names laid out, got us on boats, got us off boats, loaded us in the roundtrip bus transportation, and it was a totally phenomenal seamless process. Every boat had a captain and a marine biologist or naturalist on board. We got great history and progress of whale conservation, migration and tracking. The teams have a lot of knowledge, passion, and love of the whales and the importance of our role in preserving the oceans on which they and we depend. Our own boat saw over 25 whales breaching, other boats saw babies jumping out. We were able to get up close and personal with sea lions, pods of dolphins swimming with our boat, and humpbacks. Our naturalist Pepe was very knowledgeable while still taking photos the entire time. The captain motored us around arches and sea lions, and we were near whales but not in their habitat; the crew were environmentally aware of the boat's influence on the whale's behavior. The intimate group setting made the sightseeing more enjoyable and gave us the opportunity to see the whales closer but at a safe distance for them than you would on a bigger boat. The knowledge that was explained to us throughout the time was interesting and educated us on how whales interact and live. The added bonus of getting all the photos taken of the whales during the trip was awesome. The naturalist's knowledge and our small passenger numbers made this an A+++ trip of a lifetime.

5 stars all around from booking to the experience! The staff are first class - knowledgeable, so friendly, and just fabulous! We enjoyed a morning tour with our 5 yr old daughter. The seas were quiet which was great as we were trying to avoid sea sickness for the little one. We saw whales, we learned so much, and enjoyed a beautiful morning on the sea! I am happy to recommend Cabo Trek to any friends or family! See you on our next tour, Cabo Trek! Thank you!

All around amazing experience. Vanuza knew absolutely everything about the local wildlife and we saw so many whales! Highly recommend for the spring whale watching tours

We had 4 in our group. 2 scuba divers and 2 snorkels. Cabo trek was every accommodating to help us all get on the same boat together at the same time! Adrian was our boat captain and was great. He keep an eye on the snorkels. Felipe was our dive instructor. He was every informative. One of the better dive masters we have done with. 10/10 would recommend Cabo trek to anyone staying in Cabo. The gentleman in the office gave us a great vibe/ info on the dives and that's why we went with Cabo trek over other locals dive shops. Go talk with them and see what I mean!

Speechless. What a trip out to sea with Cabo Trek. We had been recommended to take one of their tours by our friends and we were so glad we listened to them! What we loved about this business is they limit how many people are in a boat. We only had 7 people on ours, which allowed us to move around and get incredible views and photos. I really appreciated too that our boat respected the whales in their habitat and didn't get too close. We were so so fortunate not only to see an adult whale breach multiple times, but a baby humpback too. I cried tears of joy, it was so beautiful. Our driver allowed us to stay out an extra 30 minutes because he too was in even in awe! Thank you so much to the crew for a such a special two+ hours full of information and photo opportunities. Definitely purchased the photos that the biologist took while on board - they were 10x better than the ones on my iPhone! Highly recommend.

One of two boats that take tourists out to the whales.

Angelica was our guide, biologist & photographer she was very knowledgeable. Answered all our questions about the humpback whales. We were fortunate enough to "hang out" with a mama whale and her calf plus their "escort" (look it up). I would recommend this for anyone who has a love, respect and curiosity for the ocean and all creatures that live in it. Arrive at least 20 minutes before departure! Cabo Trek is very punctual

Hence I would have given 4 stars because of this. I was expecting a much better informative tour with the marine biologist. However, in general, she didn't cut short our time and they did speed a long to various areas whenever we saw a spout of water blow up. And, in general, had a great time seeing e humpback whales- we saw one full breach too. I think we may have seen about 20 in January 2026. I heard Cabo is the best place to see the humpback whales and from December through March. I would reccomend the blow up boats as you can get much closer. We were in a small boat with about 8 people but I saw videos of people in the blow up boats that could actually touch the whales if they wanted to. Would have liked this better I think. Also, we forgot our water bottle in the boat afterwards and the company was very customer service oriented in helping us restrict the water bottle. Thank you for a great first time experience in Cabo and seeing humpback whales!

And we even got to see a baby whale breach the water, WOWZIE WOW, it was definitely a memory never to be forgotten. Our hostess with the mostess, Victoria, speaks a zillion languages. She was able to give us information on the whales in both English and Spanish (she also speaks French and Icelandic). The tour was good, we didn't even need to take photos because Victoria had a giant camera to do it for us. This way, we can really enjoy the natural settings of the Whale habitat. Towards the end of our tour, we were able to see 8 whales swimming together. Victoria said there are 7 are males chasing 1 female to see who would end up 'dating' her, aka - put a baby in her. Mating season was in the air and we got to see that. Best excursion ever! Private small tour. I'm happy to say, they followed sealife protocol and didn't get too close to harm the whales and there were only a few boats out for whale watching. It didn't feel commercial.

I contacted them to cancel multiple times more than 24 hours in advance of our scheduled tour, but they refused to refund our money. Their refund policy states that I should get back 80%, but it's been months and I haven't received anything. They probably would have had to cancel the tour because of the weather anyway. Don't use this company!

Knowing it's a 20 minute walk from the place where the cruise ship tender drops you off to the place where the tour boats dock, we decided to scout it out the night before. The email from the company instructed us to check in at the Roger's office ("kiosko 2") to ensure we got the correctly-fitting snorkeling gear, so we went looking for the office using a map from the Roger's website and Google maps. We tried inputting the exact address from the email and asking everyone we could find at Puerto Paraiso mall, but when we went to the alleged office location, nothing was there. As a last ditch effort, on the way out of the mall, we paused and asked a random guy at a booth with ads for tours (mind you, nowhere did it say Roger's on it)! This booth was NOT located in the same spot indicated in the map on the Roger's website. However, this guy was somehow able to look up our reservation, and it was legit because he knew my name even though I never said it. He told us to just meet at the dock the next day - not to even worry about going to the "office" (wherever it may be). So that's what I would advise any future travelers to do - just go to Dock D, which isn't hard to find. Ahead of time, I had emailed the company and asked if I could add additional people to our tour and how to pay for them. I received a response indicating we would need to pay 35 per person and they could either send me a PayPal account to put the money in, or we could pay at the dock. When we got on the boat, we inquired about the two extra people and were told to pay 40 dollars. Thankfully I had the email from the company and I disputed this. I was given a roundabout explanation about how the corporate office is somewhere else in Mexico and sometimes there's miscommunication. This felt like an attempt to con more money out of us, but to their credit, they did honor the emailed price. The tour itself was great. We had Jonathan as the guide and Memo as the boat driver. Jonathan had great English skills and was knowledgeable. Our kids got to drive the boat, which had them laughing hysterically. They also dropped a couple members of our party off to snorkel in a designated spot, and the snorkel gear they provided seemed nicer than the cheap stuff we brought. At the end, they offered to drop us off closer to the cruise ship to help us avoid the 20-minute walk, but said it would be a $2 dock fee per person. We did take them up on that, as we had small kids in the party and didn't want them to have to do the walk in the hot sun. They do take pictures during the tour and offer you the chance to buy them at the end. Technically this is mentioned on the website, so it's not surprising. However, I will note that they offered us a discount on the photos at the end if we left them a review - lowering the price from 80 to 50 dollars. So, take that into account when you read other reviews. We declined. I recall when I was researching tour options that some other customers had mentioned their tours being outsourced to other people. There is definitely something odd with the "company." It presents itself on its website like a small business and frequent references are made to "our boat." But when you get to the dock, nothing says "Roger's" - no signage, no uniforms, etc. There's also more than one boat - another party was checking in at the exact same time as we were with the same people. It's almost like they've been bought out by a bigger conglomerate of tour operators. Perhaps this explains the conflicting information in some spots (i.e., the email confirmation saying to check in early at an office but a guy at a random kiosk that doesn't say Roger's on it somehow having our reservation and telling us to just go to the dock). Overall, we enjoyed the tour itself, but the issues with finding the location and being asked to pay different fees than we were quoted were off-putting.

We were picked up by a driver in a passenger van prior and dropped off after which was great since we knew we would have some cocktails on board the boat. He was great! Very nice and took good care of us. When we arrived, the driver escorted us to the Cabo Adventure center where we were met by one of the crew members and then escorted to the boat following check-in. We walked a short distance to the boat, passing by many vendors and shops who of course chased you down for sales, donations, etc. But all is good, just say no thank you and they leave you alone. We arrived to the boat and were introduced to our captain, and team. Mauricio, Manuel and Derick. All three were very nice. They catered to whatever we requested from drinks, lunch and snorkeling time. When we arrived, they shared we had a photographer taking pictures throughout the day. I was excited as I am usually the one always taking photos so it would be nice to have a photographer taking pictures of our group instead of me. And, to have professional photos would be great! I only snapped a couple of pictures as we boarded because it looked like he was taking a lot of photos of us in front of the arches, hanging on the boat, etc. throughout the afternoon. I also thought the photos were included. They are not. The boat ride was great. Drinks were great. They made cocktails for us. Snorkeling was nice. Views were beautiful. They answered our questions of the area. We have a delicious light lunch of chips and guac, pasta salad, chicken salad and fruit. The staff couldn't be nicer. The photographer is nice. When we arrived back at the center, we were directed to the "photography" area where we quickly learned our photos would be $200! I calmly said let me look at the photos because if they are really that good, I'll pay for great photos. Sadly, they were all just awful! Only 1 decent photo out of 50 or so photos and even that photo needed major editing. Shadows, weird light. We had 2 different group shots. The photos in front of the arches, the top of the arches were cut off! Who cuts off the arches? Not one good picture in front of the arches. They do NOT have professional photographers my friends. Take your own photos. Don't let them convince you otherwise. I still purchased 3 photos as I thought I could use apps to improve them and wanted a memory of our day. $100 for 3 photos. Such a disappointment. I want to give this company 3 stars because of the photo situation but the rest of the experience was great and the photo situation is obviously a personal preference. If I had any photos other than 2, I would share them, TAKE YOUR OWN PHOTOS. Do not let them talk you into their photographer or you will be disappointed and out a lot of money.

There are lockers as you're not allowed to keep jewelry, watches, earrings and such on while in with the dolphins; NO sunscreen either, but call and ask about reef safe sunscreen when you book if it's ok: I believe the policy is absolutely none. She arranged a two day trip for us to see the grey whales with their babies in the "Santuario de la Ballena Gris", and planned another day for us to swim with the whale sharks. She planned every detail. Communication was perfect and she is organized and prepared. A true professional, she was also so flexible about allowing us to decide how to spend our time, giving us plenty of ideas, and switching things around when we wanted to. She took care of all the transportation, permits, snacks and meals, boats and wonderful captains, wetsuits, equipment, Spanish translation, and lodging near the grey whale sanctuary. We learned so much from her and always felt safe and cared for. We were fortunate enough to observe caracaras, countless grey whales feeding and training their babies to prepare for their long migration, and herons and seabirds on our trip to the reserve. She had a long drive, but the experience was phenomenal. Then we had planned to see the whale sharks, planning the entire trip around the peak time for whale shark viewing -- but on the day of our trip, the whale shark refuge was closed (I believe because the previous winds had encouraged them to move 60 miles away to feed, something that was unprecedented). Although we expect they'll be back soon, we had to decide what to do with our last day with Karen. She had so many fantastic ideas and was able to pivot her plans, preparation, boat and captain to a custom-designed trip for us. She drove us to La Paz with a plan to take us out to swim with the sea lions at Espiritu Santo, part of a UNESCO world heritage site. But before we got to the snorkeling site, we were astonished to have two juvenile humpbacks repeatedly breaching out of the water in front of us. We were the only boat around and paused to peacefully observe their playful antics so close to us. We also got to see blue footed boobies and frigatebirds with their red breasts on our way to the site. Then to the sea lions. The pups were around 4 months old and many of their mothers were off fishing, so the pups hopped in the water with us to play as we snorkeled over the beautiful reef. Karen pointed out so much while we snorkeled together. It was an experience of a lifetime and we felt like we had so much time enjoying the pups; other boats were there but Karen guided us to an area where we felt like we could really enjoy the pups in solitude. They tugged on my fins and jumped on my back more than once. Back on the boat and on our way to our next stop, we paused to enjoy the playful dolphins checking us out. Peaceful and touching experience. Our final stop that day was Balandra Beach. We walked from the boat in the shallow clear turquoise water all the way to the sandy beach and enjoyed solitude at the beach, listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. When we returned to the boat, they had prepared a delicious fresh ceviche lunch that the captain had prepared. It was a perfect three days and we plan to return again to see the whale sharks! I cannot see any reason to enjoy this area with anyone else and highly recommend it. Definitely take some time from your Cabo or La Paz vacation to explore with Karen.
