Due to these unfortunate turn of events, a friend had recommended me to Bonita Valley Tax Service. I was bit hesitant at first with trying to find a new tax person and relying upon their trust. Even worse, the thought of even going to your common tax service that advertises on television who usually uses college students and part timers who are briefly trained in the constant changing tax laws and basically have no experience like myself just scared me! Lord knows that I wouldn't do my own taxes and trust myself to use a Turbo Tax Service! Once I had made my first appointment two years ago and met with my new tax preparer Donita, the experience has been flawless! Donita is a gem! Very experienced in her field and greater understanding of the ever changing tax laws. She's a very honest person and very accommodating when it comes to your questions regarding your taxes and your best interests. She even offered to review many years of past prepared taxes from my former preparer to understand my past audit. That enough was appreciated!! Bonita Tax used to be in the red barn looking building on the corner of Bonita Road and Sweetwater Road, but had recently moved about a year ago to the professional building right behind the AM/PM on Otay Lakes Road and Bonita Road! They requested I pay $500 for work that I ended up paying another CPA $100…read morefor.** I had the misfortune of dealing with Ms. Suzie, a rude and condescending business representative that made sure I will never be using the services of this firm and its bloated fees. As part of my green card application I was asked by my immigration lawyer to provide the immigration authorities with a letter from a CPA. The letter was about three lines long and required minimal accounting work, which summed up to estimating 2013 annual income based on previous tax return filings. Basically, a work that would take more time to type up than to prepare the "analysis" (which had already been put together by another bookkeeper who had provided Ms. Suzie with the materials and the analysis beforehand). It seemed that Ms. Suzie, too, was well aware of the minuscule amount of work my letter required, since when I asked for an ETA she indicated that the letter could be produced within less than a day. I'm assuming that my question also indicated to Ms. Suzie my pressing need for the letter, as I had also mentioned to her that I was required to submit it as part of my immigration process. Ms. Suzie told me that writing the letter would cost me $500. Yes, you read that right. 500 bucks for three lines and a few minutes worth of work!! At first, I was certain I had misstated to her what the letter should contain and that as a result of that Ms. Suzie may have been under the impression that I had required more work than what was really needed, since surely no one in their right mind would charge so much for such little work. When I called Suzie to inquire about the fee I was faced with a condescending and rude tone that quickly turned into a full on obnoxious and testy attitude when I tried to make sense of her fee (if it was a flat consultation fee, for example, or an hourly charge). Not only did Suzie avoid answering my questions, but she also hissed at me that she "urges" me to "go around and call other CPAs", since she is "sure" that I would get some other firm to write the letter for me for a smaller fee, and that she is "happy" with that. I have no idea why anyone would talk to a client this way, but I sure am not going to give business to this kind of rude customer service. I hope that Suzie's understanding of my immigration status and pressing need for the letter didn't factor into her decision to jack up the price for me. I don't know. But given that she was so reluctant to explain her fee to me I also can't know better. I would like to mention though that I do not know Mr. Wendroff and I have never spoken to him about the fee I was given nor the work I was asking for, so it might be that he was not involved in my request at all. If so, I'm very sorry for giving his business such a bad rating, which is solely based on my awful experience with Ms. Suzie Korth.

The second year, they filed our taxes late so we received penalties and they never took ownership so we went to someone else for our 2024 taxes. This year we decided we'd try them again... big mistake. We submitted our tax information through their app and I sent them a message requesting they file an extension for us. I didn't receive any confirmation but assumed, since we signed the form stating they were going to be our tax preparer, that they filed the extension. I have spent WEEKS trying to get a hold of them. Through their app, their email, and phone with no response. I just got off the phone with the IRS and an extension was never filed so now we have until the end of the month to file.

Skane made egregious errors in my tax return. When I was notified by the IRS, Skane assigned…read moresomeone to help me fix the mess. I later found out that this firm doesn't review their tax returns--even if an employee is new. However, their solution was to file an amended return that not only had more errors, but they wanted me to sign false statements to the IRS about how the errors occurred. When I pointed out the errors and the false statements, the owner became aggressive and told me if I didn't like their "tax solutions," that I should go elsewhere. I had to pay another CPA who researched their "solutions" only to confirm that the amended return would also have been completely incorrect. He also confirmed that I should not sign a return with false statements. The company cost me thousands to correct their errors. When I later tried to discuss a solution, Alicia refused to respond. Later when contacted by the BBB and the court mediator, she also refused to respond to several attempts to speak with her. Making errors is one thing. But making more errors that you can't back up in the amended return is shocking--not to mention making false statements to the IRS. The worst part is the awful customer service. Snotty lecture from their receptionist, lack of understanding of the tax code, and most of all, no accountability to clean up their mess.
