Avoid! Translation seemed to be done using an internet translation engine. Not by an actual person of more than a very basic competence. A British legal document that describing my deceased father as "late" (in the context of the document in the English language it means dead). Cabinet Fields translated document had him, in French as "en retard" which means late as in delayed like a "late" train. The man I saw, an American, was an abrupt and rude man which I assume comes free on top of a very poor level of translation. His lack of manners match the lack of translation skills evidenced by the work he did for me. Poor value, poor service, poor in every aspect. Honestly? Go elsewhere! read more

I don't recommend this place. Why? Well, where to start...? I have come to this place for my official translation needs since 2011. I got their name from a list given to my by the French administration. I came back for repeat service because I assumed that their prices were probably mirrored by the rest of the translation sector in Paris and they were fairly fast. However, paying 55 euros to translate your birth certificate will always be hard to stomach given how many words in English look exactly like their French counterparts but that is life abroad. I thought that I became a recognized regular customer and periodically would contact my translator to let him know how the process was going with the prefecture and also what I had done to get certain documents from the American administration so he could better advise future customers. However, the last time I went I was very disappointed and do not think that I will seek further services from Cabinet Fields. I contacted my usual translator about getting copies of a document - normally 12 euros based on the last I had seen a price quote from them. He said given I had new copies of the papers already translated but would need some slight updates the maximum could would be 25 euros. In spite of this quote, when I arrived to give them the original copies, the quote doubled to 50 euros - again just to add in slightly different dates, serial numbers, and the change of the person signing. So no translation to do. While there were technically three pages, it was really all just one document with short ( i.e. two sentence certifications to say it was real - issued by the same person making the document but whatever I digress, the purpose of apostilles escapes me). Moreover, I had informed my contact that this was for my wedding and he failed to congratulate me - he preferred to complain instead about the fear he felt due to working so close to Charlie Hebdo. Please... I don't think they are after impersonable translators... Actually I had arranged to see him especially but when I arrived he left me to be treated by some new girl and didn't even say hello. If 50 euros was the price, fine. But being impersonable and unprofessional by switching the price after the fact and requiring me without any valid reason (I described the documents exactly prior to coming) to pay nearly twice as much and all this after 4 years of using their service I was frustrated. Proceed, certainly, but proceed with some caution. Read the reviews people have left on Yelp and Google. At the same time, realize that the services this company offers are to some extent legitimate. Because this company had so many poor reviews online, I asked the office if I could pay after reviewing the translation. Allowing me to review the translation and pay only when I was satisfied with it, they worked with me. I did, however, point out a number of ridiculous mistakes on a document of less than seventy words. Translating a British MA diploma into French, the heading of the French document said "Translated from French," it said that it a "Bachelor of Arts" degree was actually conferred, and then, to top it all off, the distinction was not converted properly. Refusing to acknowledge an equivalence between French distinctions and those of other countries, the chief translator guy just kind of puts what he wants on the document. I had to argue with him about it, and he was a hugely insulting. Additionally, when they changed the Bachelor of Arts part, they defined a Master of Arts as a degree of two years that is partially completed in another language, which, as anyone with a Masters degree knows, that is untrue. At some point, you just kind of have to move on. So, hopefully it will be all right. Having said all of that, despite the standard fee and the subpar service, I think he's worth going to if you're stuck. And if know English and French well enough to review the document. He did work with me, after all, which I am very thankful for. He had the translation done by the time he said he'd have it done, so I didn't have to wait. The French people in the office were very nice and willing to rectify mistakes. I think they even gave me back more change than necessary. read more

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT Abysmal customer service. All I wanted was a translation of a birth certificate. What I got was a rambling, angry phone call from one of the translators. In which he told me precisely what he thought of my character. What ought to have been a straight forward transaction became an unpleasant and insulting dialogue with a man apparently on the edge of a nervous break down. DO NOT GO THERE! One of the worst services ever. We were told to come collect our document at a date given by the firm just to find the documents not ready. Subsequently we paid for the postage but it was never sent and they have the audacity to ask for extra money when we requested for a scan copy since they have delayed our entire administration process with the embassy. read more

LOST ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS?? I gave them time sensitive original documents, my birth certificate and FBI rap sheet, to translate and specified that I needed to pick them up. I confirmed today they were ready and they told me I could pick them up. When I got to the office within one hour of the confirmation, they couldn't find them. They THINK they were mailed. Original documents that should not be put in the normal post...if you care about your documents don't use this unprofessional company. They don't know what they did with the documents and no stress for them, as they said, it's no big deal I should receive them by post! Except they don't know if they posted them. As follow-up to my last post on 9 May 2018, I finally received the "certified" translation in the post, and guess what? There was still an error despite the owner's arrogant assertion that there was no need to verify the document in advance (and despite our prior agreement on this condition). To make matters worse, the error was an important one as it wholly invalidated the contents of the document. Was any apology forthcoming from the owner? Of course not. I only received a rather inappropriately emotional response threatening not to proceed with the modification if I continued to complain (!). I then requested to pick up the translation at his offices the next day in order to avoid further delays. A cryptic email response informed me that I would "hear from him tomorrow before noon ", which I did, but only to be told that the translation had been posted in the mail that morning. Such puerile antics, and the lack of any sense of personal or professional responsibility, are quite disturbing. The translation order was made on 3 May, the day I was required to prepay in full, I informed him that I needed the translation by 14 May at the latest, I was promised a delay of 3-5 working days, and it is now 26 May and I still do not have the translation. I had a horrible experience with the owner, as mirrored in other reviews. I found him on the list of certified translators given by the US embassy and called to see if he could do same day translation, which he said yes to. Realizing I forgot to ask about price, I immediately called back and he told me it would be 52 euros. When I got to the office I was told it would be a 15 euro extra charge for same day service, which I was never told about over the phone. When I mentioned this, they said they wanted me to pay everything up front in cash, and they would reimburse me once they spoke with the owner who was on lunch break. I thought it seemed strange so I called his cell phone number to try and get things confirmed things straight away. He was extremely brute on the phone and immediately told me I was mistaken before I even fully explained who I was. He then said when I asked about price he misspoke because he didn't realize I meant for rush translation, then swiftly changed the story again to say I misunderstood him. He was extremely rude and accusatory through all of this. To be honest, if he had been kind on the phone I probably would have just paid the extra 15 euros, but I couldn't shake his complete lack of respect. I work in customer service and I know what it's like to have difficult customers/easy miscommunications, what have you, but his behavior was beyond unfounded. Luckily I was able to get another official translator at the last minute for only 45 euros. Had everything done for me in an hour and met me at the metro station so I could pick up my documents. He even apologized after hearing about my experience with Fields. I would agree with the other reviewers. First, this translator is incompetent. We had to return 3 times for a one-page translation, and he actually asked our help in translating! Unbelievable. In addition, he seems to have a personality issue, is very rude for simply no reason--to us, to another customer, in front of us, and even to his staff. Many better choices in Paris. read more

Horrible service. Besides the errors in the translations, the owner is prone to sending insulting emails before and after using their services, and yelling at clients when they arrive to pick up their documents. For the price you pay to have your documents translated in Paris, you can find many other providers of the same service without being verbally abused. read more

Terrible. Awful. I had a basic translated document checked by a qualified teacher of French who was horrified at basic errors and mistakes. The other reviewers are totally correct. The man is rude which is excusable but a poor translator which is not. read more
