I had tried Rosetta Stone French but struggled with understanding even basic verb grammar. So when an opportunity to be in Paris for a few months presented itself I was thrilled, but I had no idea which language school to pick! Looked on here and on Trip Advisor - Langue Appart' was rated highest on both. So I signed up hoping it would be good; instead it was excellent! I wound up taking a bit less than three months of classes and was stunned at how much progress I made thanks to Mélanie's teaching. She has a tremendous gift for knowing the right level of challenge for students, and explained all of the concepts clearly. The other students in my class and I were serious about becoming fluent, so she pushed us much harder than I expected, but was also endlessly patient even when we forgot things repeatedly. It was wonderful to learn more quickly than I had imagined was possible - all the French friends I made in Paris were shocked at how good my French was for such a short period of study! :) I also loved my fellow students - our classwork kept us engaged because in addition to useful phrases and words we were given the opportunity to share (with no pressure to be deep) about ourselves, our cultures, and our perspectives using whatever grammar we were learning at the moment. Even more fun because we were all from different parts of the world! I don't usually write reviews but am happy to make an exception for Langue Appart'! PS. The other teacher, Michael, seemed like he was really good too; I met some of his students and they were very happy with their experiences as well. I couldn't have been happier with my experience at Langue Appart'. I was there for two weeks taking group classes in the morning with Bryan as well as two private lessons a week with Melanie. I am an Intermediate student B2. The group lessons were well structured with clear goals and a little homework to reinforce what we had learned. Bryan let the conversation flow (all in French) and then took a pause to correct us individually - pronunciation, grammar and expression. It was an intimate class and I felt really at ease - challenged but encouraged! And the other students were really great. The individual lessons with Melanie were more conversational. The first day we worked on "la vie quotidienne" - I was so shocked at the holes in my vocabulary when I tried to describe making pasta - but now I know. We discussed art, culture, politics (I was there during the election so it could not be ignored) and our last day we had a pot luck "pause dej." with students from all the classes. I attended the four week class in 2018 and loved it. My French improved immensely and I could not have chosen a better school. I have taken multiple classes in Paris and in the U.S. and my experience at Langue Appart' could not have gone better or smoother anywhere else. I had Melanie as my teacher and she is fantastic. Super patient and took the time to really make sure that I understood everything she was teaching. I never once felt self conscious or judged by how poor my skills were. I was in a small group that week after week became even smaller as some students were only there for one or two weeks. It worked perfectly since the course becomes more difficult as time goes on. Learning a language is stressful and will always be difficult, but if you get the right teacher, with the right group of students, it can also be a lot of fun. This is the situation at Langue Appart'. Most importantly: their French classes actually worked. Over three intense weeks I went from struggling to order a meal to having important conversations with the contractors working on our tiny apartment. Langue Appart' is more than a class, it's a community. With organized walks around Paris and after school parties, they encouraged us to relax and speak French both in and out of class. Thanks to the flexible teaching style of Langue Appart', I have the tools and, most importantly, the confidence, to continue the path towards speaking fluently. I moved to Paris at the beginning of the year in 2017- and I can say that learning a new language is definitely not an easy task, but Langue Appart' makes it easy and enjoyable. Before coming to this school, I tried another school when I first moved here, but it was expensive and not so effective- so it discouraged me a bit and I gave up trying to learn French for almost nine months, but living in Paris with pretty much no knowledge of French was very difficult- so I decided to give Langue Apart' a try and I can say it was one of the best decisions I have made. I have only been in classes here for 1 1/2 months, but I see a huge improvement in my French already! I used to be scared whenever I would have to speak to someone in French or whenever someone would speak to me in French, but after coming to this school- it has helped me feel more comfortable with the language and it helped me understand the language more. Now I can comfortably speak basic levels of French in my daily life. The classes at this school are BEYOND AMAZING. The classes I have been in have no more than 5 people- this lets everyone have a good amount of time to practice/ask questions during the class. At the start of every new session (at the beginning of every month) the school will have an evaluation test for you to take to place you in the appropriate class so you will be with students at your same level- this ensures that you are in a comfortable learning environment. Besides having great classes, the school also holds small events every week- i.e. aperitifs, guided tours, and lunch to get all the students together and meet each other outside of class. Langue Apart' makes me want to go to school to keep improving my knowledge of French. Between the classes and the extra curricular activities- it's really an enjoyable environment to be in. The two founders- Melanie and Michael are wonderful, kind, and patient. They make the school such a wonderful place to be at and it makes it a pleasure to go to school. Langue Appart' is an awesome choice to improve your french, with small groups, and classes based on practicing the language more than just learning the theory. I moved to Paris with a very basic level of french. My knowledge of verbs and conjugations was OK, but I had barely practiced speaking the language. A coworker recommended me Langue Appart', so I gave it a try, and ended up loving it! The thing I liked the most was the format of the classes. They are always entertaining, with great students for all over the world, but most importantly, you'll start speaking from day 1, which is really, in my opinion, the best way to learn the language. I went from my basic french level to being able to have a normal conversation with locals and coworkers in less than 6 months. I strongly recommend trying Langue Appart'. Langue Appart' is an excellent language school, and I would highly recommend it to anyone hoping to study French in Paris. Melanie and Michael, the teachers, are enthusiastic, friendly, and super smart, and they clearly put a lot of thought into crafting the curriculum. There's really no better way to learn a language: small class sizes, total immersion, comfortable environment, cool neighborhood, and great instructors. Plus, the pricing is reasonable - a number of other students I met during my time there said they'd taken courses elsewhere, and that Langue Appart' was the best option, even better than other, more expensive classes. I took a group immersion course ("le cours intensif") for 5 weeks with Melanie last summer and I learned an enormous amount. I appreciated that they considered my situation when deciding which course to place me in - I was about to begin a graduate program in literature, so they placed me in a course that would be difficult for me but would introduce a lot of new grammatical concepts. That was definitely the right choice, and it was cool to have that level of individual attention right from the get-go. I also met some really nice and interesting people, which helped make the experience enjoyable. Overall, highest recommendation! I hope to go back next summer myself. read more

I did a one month intensive course here. I was afraid at first because everything is taught in French, but it was AMAZING and took away all of that fear. The course totally increased my confidence in speaking. Even tough I'm still speaking with a lot of mistakes (I'm in the middle of A2), I'm speaking confidently and holding conversation with fluent speakers. My French friends have been so pleased to carry actual conversations with me, and not have to translate all the time. I can not recommend this school enough for native English speakers. read more

I decided on Langue Appart' after hearing nothing but amazing things from each and every former student I came across and I am truly so, so happy with my decision! I did two full 4-week courses this past fall and my French improved immeasurably - I went into my first course with a solid foundation but was in dire need of grammaire review across the board and my speaking capabilities at that time were pretty much limited to basic daily conversation. Now, I can not only read and write at an elevated level, but engage in conversation with natives and non-natives alike on topics that are far more complex than the average "daily life" discours. Also, the community that the school fosters is great - I've made many lasting friends from my classes, and really appreciated the effort that the school put behind organizing social events such as happy hours and Paris city tours. While I am incredibly satisfied with my level of French at this point in the time, I love the school and French language so much that I plan to take a few more courses here and there in 2020! read more

Langue Appart' it's the best language school that I've gone in Paris. I've tried to go at other schools but the way to learn not easy as much as Langue Appart does it. Especially Melanie and Michael are kindly and goodly like teachers. They are involved to teach in a fun way so as not to get bored. The number of students is small, in my case we were 6 and it was very comfortable to listen and speak to learn and concentrate. To end up, they organize meals and excursions in the city to get to know each other among students. If I have the opportunity to return, I will not think it, I will go to Langue Appart! read more

I spent many hours reading reviews and comparing different French schools in Paris. I finally settled on Langue Appart' and it was the best decision. The descriptions and reviews accurately portrayed the French language learning experience at this school. Even though it was an hour commute for me, it was absolutely worth my time and money. Having gone to a few French schools in Paris already, I knew exactly what I was looking for and found it at Lange Appart'. 1. A curriculum of some sorts that aligned with the A-C leveling. 2. Flexible lessons where the teacher spends more time on a subject the class is struggling with and moves beyond something they grasp quickly. 3. A combination of (checked) written exercises that force practice and memorization AND opportunities for natural conversation. 4. Small class sizes - we were never more than 6 students. 5. Teachers who were positive and encouraging. 6. Flexible scheduling and leveling - I love the 4 weeks system where you are reevaluated at the end of every month and placed in a class that exactly fits your ability level. What I was pleasantly surprised to find at Langue Appart' that made my experience so much more enjoyable and beneficial: 1. Quality instruction - I have a master's degree in education and was impressed by the ability of the teacher's to explain a concept, assess our understanding, and determine the next appropriate course of action. I progressed much farther in my French than I expected. 2. Fun and engaging classes - I looked forward to attending class every day. 3. A feeling of family - The school encourages camaraderie between the students. They plan group walks and get togethers to foster a sense of community. I have taken a lot of language courses in my life and the one at Langue Appart' was by far the best. The classes are small, the teachers are very friendly and the methods of teaching are great. I have taken a total of 3 weeks of intensive classes with Melanie and I have never made so much progress in such a short amount of time. If you're in Paris and looking to seriously improve your french - look no further than Langue Appart'. It is simply the best intensive class option there is in Paris. Classes are generally small (my class was never more than 6 students) and provides plenty of opportunity to speak and interact. You will never be lost as a number in a giant class here - you will be forced to listen and speak throughout class. And lets be real here - that is the way to achieving fluency in this language. Learning a new language is HARD (for me) but Langue Appart has made it an awesome experience. Mainly because the teachers are cool and make it fun. And they really are invested in the progress of their students. I've been going to this school since November 2017 and started as a beginner. I did the Langue Appart courses on my last three visits to Paris, the months of February, April, and October through November. After having been to 5 other French language schools in the US and one other in Paris, I can say that Langue Appart is the best I've attended. After all, why would I have returned twice if I didn't like it? The instructors are comfortable teaching, supportive of the students, and quite entertaining. In my experience I've only encountered one other teacher who was of equal quality to those at Langue Appart. The student body is from all over the world and some of the best folks I've ever meet. The school is well located near three different Metro lines although I prefer to walk to school from my favorite 20th arrondissement. Students can study for any length of time but I prefer attending for a month at a time. If you are changing more that 5 time zones I recommend a few days to adjust before starting a class. Be sure to ask about the special events on the first, second, and last week of the session. Check the Langue Appart website calendar as well. read more

Langue Appart' is a wonderful school in central Paris. During my four weeks there, I enjoyed wonderful teaching Melanie and great company and friendship from all the staff. It is a small school that puts a lot of emphasis on one-to-one interaction and makes you really talk. Although this was my only language school in Paris, I had many friends who told me that they chose Langue Appart' after trying many others. I would love to come back as well. The class sizes are often 5-8 people so it's very easy to ask questions and have discussions that help improve your french.
