Looked on here and on Trip Advisor - Langue Appart' was rated highest on both. So I signed up hoping it would be good; instead it was excellent! I wound up taking a bit less than three months of classes and was stunned at how much progress I made thanks to Mélanie's teaching. She has a tremendous gift for knowing the right level of challenge for students, and explained all of the concepts clearly. The other students in my class and I were serious about becoming fluent, so she pushed us much harder than I expected, but was also endlessly patient even when we forgot things repeatedly. It was wonderful to learn more quickly than I had imagined was possible - all the French friends I made in Paris were shocked at how good my French was for such a short period of study! :) I also loved my fellow students - our classwork kept us engaged because in addition to useful phrases and words we were given the opportunity to share (with no pressure to be deep) about ourselves, our cultures, and our perspectives using whatever grammar we were learning at the moment. Even more fun because we were all from different parts of the world! I don't usually write reviews but am happy to make an exception for Langue Appart'! PS. The other teacher, Michael, seemed like he was really good too; I met some of his students and they were very happy with their experiences as well. And Carolina, the admin, was incredibly supportive and went out of her way to be generously helpful to me multiple times. If you choose to go, j'espère que vous apprécierez aussi!

I was there for two weeks…read more taking group classes in the morning with Bryan as well as two private lessons a week with Melanie. I am an Intermediate student B2. The group lessons were well structured with clear goals and a little homework to reinforce what we had learned. Bryan let the conversation flow (all in French) and then took a pause to correct us individually - pronunciation, grammar and expression. It was an intimate class and I felt really at ease - challenged but encouraged! And the other students were really great. The individual lessons with Melanie were more conversational. The first day we worked on "la vie quotidienne" - I was so shocked at the holes in my vocabulary when I tried to describe making pasta - but now I know. We discussed art, culture, politics (I was there during the election so it could not be ignored) and our last day we had a pot luck "pause dej." with students from all the classes. Je suis tellement reconnaissante à notre incroyable professeur Sylvaine Hinglais qui a créé ce cours magnifique et qui a une patience incomparable avec nous. Ce cours est absolument unique pour améliorer les compétences en français oral, en écoute, en lecture et en écriture. On travaille la grammaire, les conjugaisons, la phonétique, le vocabulaire à travers des dialogues contemporains. Et on découvre beaucoup sur la culture française ! They have several different levels you can choose from. If you want to take a less intensive course of 20 hours a week you can do that or you can take the intensive course closer to 40 hours a week. They also have courses for business professionals as well. It is full immersion...no English allowed! They teach by living it, you are learning by songs, poems, acting out skits, they give you different worksheets for homework and lots of talking in the class. You have no choice but to learn French. On top of that you live there so you are able to use the language in your everyday life. I went from VERY beginner to intermediate in just a few months. The other nice thing is that you change teachers every week, and you change classes according to your speaking level...if you need some more work you stay in the class, if they think you can move on they change your class. They can help set you up with a family to live with or you can just find an apartment like I did. There is also a metro station right next to the school so it is easy to get to...along with that the area has tons of shopping and small cafe's all around it. The pizza place next door is amazing!!! I met so many cool people here that I still keep in touch with and have met up with since leaving the school. They have students come in from all over the world so you meet an awesome group of people. If you want to take a French immersion class this is really the place to do it! Our teacher, Nindra, was excellent! She was very accommodating by coming to our hotel every morning to teach our kids before our daily sightseeing. Caroline quickly adapts the coursework to areas that will help you improve the most, so it really feels like every minute is used wisely. She is very responsive over email and very kind and helpful in person-- I sent her an email from the US a few weeks before my trip and was able to schedule all of the sessions in advance. The director, Eriko, is extremely organized and professional and the school is very well run. They really know what they are doing. The school is beautiful. Everyone is kind and patient, but they also have expectations and standards, which are for the benefit of every student. After a week in a small group setting, they helped me to figure out was best for me, which turned out to be private classes, because I was a bit too impatient with the speed of my class. I do think their classes are wonderful -- very small size, and effectively structured, but I was extremely eager to talk, to use my french, and for that, their private teachers were a better fit. If you want to really improve your french and have some time in Paris, this is a fantastic school. Lots of students are people who live in Paris (most, in my classes), who wanted to improve their french for professional reasons. The school is on a gorgeous street in the 7th. It has no downsides whatsoever. If you go there, you'll be very glad, without any regrets at all.
