This is the second time we used Cabinet Discounters of Gaithersburg. Recently they renovated one of our bathrooms; CD outdid themselves. Thanks to the helpful and patient guidance of Shawn Bliss, we chose beautiful tile, a vanity and accessories. The carpenter, tilesetter, plumber and electrician chosen by CB arrived on schedule and completed the work on schedule. Attention was paid to every detail. Mike Bliss was amazing to work with!! He thought of every detail in designing our kitchen cabinets....things that never would have occurred to us and that we really appreciate now that we're living in the space! Also, when he came out to the house to measure, he noticed a crucial issue that wasn't apparent from the plans our contractor had sent, so he was able to tweak the design and get everything perfect. OK, so this review is going to sound a little like a paid endorsement but Hans at Cabinet Discounters was AMAZING during our construction. Home improvement/construction is stressful so when the people around you know what they are doing it takes a lot of stress out of a very stressful situation. We were referred to Cabinet Discounters and Hans by our contractor who works with them a lot and is very comfortable with them. We've had the same contractor for over 20 years so we trust his judgement and he said "go see Hans" so we went to see Hans. I was immediately drawn to a cabinet color which is a little more unconventional, but I really did like it and immediately got a vision in my head about what the end result would look like. Hans drew up the plans for the project: full kitchen rebuild/extension, dressing room and vanity. We talked for a while about what I wanted/needed, and Hans managed to generate plans that really did show he understood what I was working towards. Really, there was nothing I could add to the plans - he captured everything I needed in pretty much one shot. We ordered everything as he designed it. Hans not only came out to measure the house independently, before finalizing the order he came out with my contractor to go over measurements again so that any problems/concerns could be addressed on site. I have to say that during the waiting process for the cabinets to be built (these cabinets are built to measure, unlike the big box stores where you get what you get as far as size goes) I had a little bit of a freak out about the color we picked, but Hans reassured me it would look fabulous and got me to hold strong! Once construction started, Hans came on site multiple times to check that the cabinets had been delivered in good condition/order complete (they were all delivered on time, individually boxed/packaged) but also came out to the site multiple times to make sure they were going in without any problems (they were). We ordered our quartz top from them also, and once again everyone arrived exactly when they said they would, did their job efficiently and politely, and delivered the final product as promised. I have to say that the final result is simply stunning! Better than we could have imagined. I have told Hans and so I will tell you all here too, Cabinet Discounters won't tell you this but they are really not that much different in price than you will pay at the big box stores and the difference in quality and finish is remarkable. These cabinets are made to fit our space - we didn't have to try to make the space fit the cabinets! We were so pleased with the quality and price that we have commissioned them to add some storage to our basement also. Cannot recommend these people highly enough. My house looks spectacular and the stress factor was minimal given the extent of the construction and size of the project. read more

Pros Brighton cabinets ie decent products. Pretty much a one-stop shop. They work with the appliance guys down the street. Plenty of choices. Cons Customer service. Sometimes people just do not click. I would not write a bad review because I did not click with the contractor I just would not use them and move on. What I experienced here was different. Arrogant, and pushy, and rude. I also got the impression she thought I could not afford what she was selling. Judging customers bad idea. Never judge a book by its cover. They work on commission so if you contact one person another person in the shop will not help. For example, I had been referred by a friend. The person they had used there had retired. If he was still there they would have said I had to use him. Ridiculous. What if one of the other salespeople was a better fit? To the customer that is too much infighting. They have tons of customers clearly they don't need more. What I will say is they lost a large job because their customer service isn't good. That's just me. read more

My husband and I shopped around for cabinets and decided on Cabinet Discounters due to their showroom, price and the help we received during our initial meetings. Phil was tremendously helpful in creating a kitchen that was both beautiful and functional. When we encountered a couple of problems (warped door needed to be replaced and a measurement error) during installation, Phil came out to our house that day and was able to work things out to our satisfaction. We were doing the installation ourselves and Phil gave us invaluable advice during the process. This was our experience the Cabinet Discounters. In June, we contacted and left message for Mike Bliss to discuss a remodeling job and we never heard back from him. We contacted the office again and spoke with someone named "Billy" regarding our remodeling plans. That was back in June and we did not hear back from him either. Based on our lousy experience with these morons, we cannot recommended this company of idiots. read more

I bought Brighton cabinets from CD 16 years ago and the finish on the cabinets was problematic within 2 years. At first, CD sent their 'touch up guy', Ward out twice and the second time he told me, I'd just have to keep sanding down the peeling finish and touch up with varnish myself (in other words: 'don't expect me to keep coming out'). Needless to say, I couldn't keep up with the numerous places that started peeling (I'm not a full time cabinet refinisher). Fast forward 14 years- now one of my cabinet doors developed a crack and I again complained to CD. CD got Brighton involved but they would not honor under warranty. CD said the 'weathered' look of the cabinets after 14 years was due to being near a stove, sink, light source or related to a cleaning product. So, I guess their cabinets are not meant for a room with a stove, sink or with windows and not meant to be cleaned (sarcasm here). Only thing is-these defects began after 2 years and some were not near stove, sink or light. I would not recommend CD because while the design, sales, and install went well, CD (and Brighton in this case) did not stand behind their products. I was deeply disappointed in the way the door and drawer front finish held up, while the rest of the cabinets and hardware are like brand new. Unfortunately those parts of the cabinet are not as obvious as the crappy door and drawer fronts. CD offered to have their 'touch up guy' come out again and if he could do anything it would be $125 for the first hour and $75 each hour afterwards. I am writing this review so new customers know how CD gets around honoring any warranties or defects of workmanship in their products. My advice-don't buy here if you want cabinets to look nice for more than 2 years!!! read more

I am so happy with our new cabinets! They look great and are really well made. It only took two weeks for them to come, and on the day they were delivered, the delivery men came early. How often does that happen?! They unloaded them promptly and without a scratch. Phil is terrific to work with. He has lots of good ideas, is so helpful, and wants you to have a beautiful kitchen. I wish I could say that about my contractor! He also respects your budget and doesn't try to upsell you something you don't want and can't afford. I feel like I got much better cabinets for a price competitive with a big box store. I would definitely do business with them again. read more

Went to Cabinet Discounters in Gaithersburg yesterday for what I had hoped would be helpful kitchen redesign advice. Afterall, Cabinet Discounters advertises relentlessly on WTOP about all their offerings. Well, we walked out after about 5 minutes. The guy with the redidsh blonde hair was incredibly negative, hugely unhelpful, and clearly wished he were somewhere else. And by the way, that ad's promise of "free consultation" at your home is totally bs. They only show up at your home after you commit to buying cabinets. Query whether that representation is a "free consultation." FTC, I hope you are reading this review! So, to sum up - avoid Cabinet Discounters like the plague. DF read more

I had a great experience with Cabinet Discounters. We contacted them to redo our kitchen after a fire and they did an excellent job. I worked with Phil who was a consummate professional. He worked with us throughout the entire process and was very prompt in responding to all our questions and concerns. They sent four separate teams. The first team led by Louis removed the granite counter tops carefully without damaging them. Then Chip, who is a master carpenter, installed the cabinets expertly. We were on a tight budget and a tight timeline, and Cabinet Discounters came through for us in a major way. This was a complicated job because we wanted to match half of our old cabinets that could be restored instead of replaced. Steve Mathes did a great job of helping my wife choose the countertops she wanted, and he helped match the cabinets close enough that only a trained eye could spot the difference. The price was sweet, too. Very pleased with the cabinets, but especially the service and the dependability as far as ordering and delivery on time and well within budget. Gave them a call to ask about getting an estimate on my kitchen. I already had estimates and drawings but the previous company that I went to didn't have the appropriate cabinets I wanted in stock. I asked a simple question about their estimate process and BOY did I get some attitude back for literally no reason. It was so surprising/confusing as to why the person on the phone was so hostile towards me! Maybe they didn't mean to be, but whoever answers the phone needs a lesson on phone etiquette and demeanor. After unsuccessfully shopping around at big box stores and on the web for bathroom vanities, I decided to again use Cabinet Discounters of Gaithersburg which had done a wonderful job on my kitchen remodeling last year. Again, Phil H. very professionally worked with us to remodel 3 bathrooms, and provided us with different options to help us stay within our budget. The in-house brand quartz counter top he recommended turned out to be ideal, at a lower cost, for the bathrooms. The installation of the counter tops were done skillfully to perfection by Pablo's team. Their product quality is outstanding, but it's their customer service that really sets them apart from others. All issues are promptly resolved with no hassles. Their service personnel, Ward S. was very friendly and professional in working to correct some minor manufacturer issues. Do NOT buy a countertop here! I worked with Lou Morley and selected an ivory/bone countertop for our bathroom. The countertop that was delivered was a completely different color--sort of a pinkish, brownish putty color that clashes terribly with both the cabinet and the floor tile we ordered. You might think the fact that I have multiple geotagged photos showing exactly what I picked out in the showroom (complete with label) next to the wood color of the vanity might help, but it did not. They are insisting that somehow my both my camera and my memory are so unreliable as to mistake brown for ivory. They clearly had a mislabeled sample in the store and now are expecting me to pay the price. I am seriously unhappy with the entire experience of being ripped off as well as insulted and recommend you look elsewhere for a countertop. read more

Started fine only to find our designer left before the work was to start and was not contacted by them. Work proceeded after we did follow-ups and there were some issues during the process. Still, they completed on time and the cabinets look good. The Installers left and that's it, no follow up from the showroom to see if all went well. Lockbox is still on our front door after a month of completion. Made NUMEROUS, more than should have calls regarding the box and a final walk through. NO ONE CALLS BACK. Cabinet Discounters made a serious design error when they built cabinets for my kitchen renovation, then failed to acknowledge the mistake, and fought with us when we asked them to compensate us to fix the mistake. They also accused me of trying to "bribe" them when I said I would tell my friends of their horrible customer service. CD failed to measure my kitchen correctly, and one drawer could not open because it bumped into the handle of my oven. We informed CD of the mistake, and they told us that we had chosen the wrong oven. We did our own extensive research and realized that there was no other oven on the market that would fit that space. Finally, about a week later, they sent an installer to look at the problem, and he admitted that it was "a design thing." We asked them to compensate my contractor to fix the mistake, which involved removing the Silestone counter top, backsplash and floor tiles, installing filler, and moving the drawers 3 inches down, and then re-installing everything. My contractor offered an estimate for the work - $1400 for 2 days worth of work. They denied that there would be any tile work and said they'd "fix anything" that broke during the installation. Also, first they said they'd cover only $800, and then they said they'd only cover $600. Both our salesperson in Gaithersburg and Lisa Mikk, one of the store owners, spoke to me with condescending and accusatory attitudes. Not once did anyone acknowledge the mistake or apologize for the incredible inconvenience. Instead, they told me that my contractor's price was outrageous and there was no way they would pay it. Even when my contractor agreed to lower his price by $200 they said there was no way they would compromise at all. When I said that I would tell my entire community network how they had treated me, and asked if a $400 difference was worth the negative publicity, Lisa Mikk said I was trying to "bribe" her. When I said I would put the credit card payment in dispute, she said I would be committing "fraud." Everyone in our community should know that CD treats customers horribly and if they make a mistake, they will tell you it's your fault and will not be willing to fix it properly. read more

While the outcome of Cabinet Discounters' work was satisfactory, the "process" was so bad we will never use them again. Numerous mistakes along the way caused the job (redoing both full baths in our house) to take twice as long. For example, the shower door installer ruined one finished bath by trying to install the door in the wrong bath. Worse, and unbelievably, CD did not finish the first bath before starting and making substantial progress on the second! The last straw, however, was that CD refused to take responsibility for making sure that the tile and grout purchased were what was needed to do the job (the customer has the nominal responsibility to buy the tile, but CD neither gave us proper instruction for doing this nor checked our work). It wasn't just the result - the wrong grout was used in each bathroom, one of the causes of the delays experienced - but the fact that up and down the company, from the salesman and the scheduler to the troubleshooter and ultimately the co-owner, they refused to acknowledge any responsibility for the mistakes that were caused. More than one representative persisted in blaming us. This is a company to avoid. read more
