As a person that lives in the Midwest I believe Cabela's is a staple to a weekend family outing My siblings and I are always excited to go see the fish tank and the stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling- I don't know why (maybe cause there is nothing to do here in the middle of nowhere) It was a pretty fun experience today. A little boy who is probably 7 years old said hello shawty to me by the fish tank and then ran away. I lost my dad and used my phone to track him back to the guns and ammo section after almost talking to one of the random strangers because I thought he was my dad (they're all dressed alike I swear) I was definitely tempted to spend my hard earned money on some carhartt sweaters and the little cowboy cap guns lol but pulled through The bathrooms were clean and nice- so were the employees, except for the one that have me a weird look after I said to my mom that I wanted to take the shopping cart and do donuts 10/10 will shop here again (another day another slay Cabela's) read more

Never ever will I go near the gun counter again. When I was there a young couple was in the process of buying a gun and the gun sales associate brought out a new handgun and he had to pull the slide back to check if it was clear. In the process of clearing the gun he pointed the gun at me and the customers trying to buy the gun many times, given it was fresh out of the box that is unacceptable, gun safety should be #1 priority. Came out to buy what I was told was a Winchester model 70 Featherweight, turns out to be a mid-1970s-80s Walmart rifle. Barrel profile was WAY to heavy, stock had been hogged out under the barrel by some idiot then a polyurethane finish added, checkering was pressed instead of cut. But it had a Winchester Featherweight price tag on it. This was either the work of someone who knows nothing about firearms, or intentional fraud. I really hope it was the former. If only Wichita Cabela's have better customer service in the firearm department, I would probably utilize my Cabelas credit card more often. Even on their overpriced guns just because it's there and available rather than going elsewhere. From my experience, Cabela's firearm department is lacking with their customer service. I feel like they don't cater to the nonwhite as much. I've made numerous visits to Cabela's to look at the Smith and Wesson Performance Center 7x 357 and not once have any worker approach me to offer their assistance. My last visit, I noticed that they lowered the price from $1099 to $949. If only one of the three workers who was standing around chit chatting with each other would have approach me and ask if I needed any help, I honestly would probably made the purchase. I am 56 yrs old. My 87 yr old dad wanted to buy me a handgun for Christmas. He does not live in Wichita. I went into the store 2 weeks earlier to make sure he could buy me the gun, understand paperwork to be completed, etc. I was told he needed to complete the paperwork in person and he could give me the gun as a gift. Fast forward to today. Dad drove two hours to go buy the gun with me. When we arrived at the store and picked out the gun, I was informed that I needed to complete the paperwork, not Dad. I completed the paperwork the best I could, but one of the questions was confusing given that I was not actually purchasing the gun. I asked for help/clarification from the Cabela's employee but he and his associates told me they couldnt help me answer the questions--even though my situation was very clear to them, my Dad was standing right there to confirm, and they knew the correct response based on my situation. So...I answered how I thought to be correct and was rejected from buying the gun. My 87 yr old father drove two hours for no reason. RIDICULOUS!!! I am done with Cabelas. It is no wonder Scheels has been so successful. They now have all my future business. read more

I would not recommend buying a firearm from the Wichita, KS Cabela's. My experience was horrible, and was treated as if they did not care about their customers. They have no idea what the laws are, and are extremely rude to everyone. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else. read more

It is sad that I must write a review such as this about Cabela's. I have been a die hard Cabela's fan all my life, even carry their credit card. That sadly will be changing. The customer service is less than poor. I've been trying to get a firearm shipped in from another store for a month and every time I call to check on it, I get the run around. I personally sat and watched them fill out the request form for it and 2 weeks later when I called to inquire, they couldn't even find the form. So, I go to the store. I'm told it's the holiday or it might have been sold already or their is a huge backlog of other guns being shipped in. The final straw was that if I really wanted the gun I should go get it elsewhere! Excuse me, where do you work? Would you say that to me if Jim and Dick Cabela were standing there? Nope, your butt would be fired. To quote Cabela's company history, "Despite the accolades and growth, Cabela's continues to embrace the original philosophy that the customer is No. 1 - a philosophy instilled by company founders Jim and Dick Cabela." Must I say that you employees, the gun counter of Wichita, KS, have failed horrifically at what your employers feel is more important. I called the store looking for a little boat. The lady said she didn't see it so she transferred me to the boat department. The guy that answered there said that he would try and find someone from that department and put me on hold. This first called last about 17 minutes, I got tired of being on hold and hung up. I called the store back a 2nd time. I got back to the same guy and said he was sorry but we got disconnect when he put me on hold. He again put me on hold to guy find someone. This second call lasted about 10 minutes before I hung up because I was tired of being on hold. A third time I called the store and a new guy asked me what I wanted. He said since this store was not a boat dealer that he couldn't get the boat I wanted and suggested I try Kansas City or Oklahoma City. I asked him again if he could just order the boat in...he again apologized and said no. Why would I want to do business with a company that makes me call them 3 different times and then tells me that I have to drive over 160 miles to another Cabela's if I want to buy the boat. I then called the 800 number for customer service and he said I should call back the store to file a complaint. HELLO !!! 800 number for customer service....why couldn't he take my complaint? I think called the store back a 4th time and asked for the on-duty manager. I told him my experience and he was very polite and professional. He asked if he could look into this matter for me and said he would see if he could get what I was looking for. By this point I was tired of the Cabela games and politely said no thank you. The only reason I am not giving this a 1 star rating was the actual attempt of the manager to correct the problem. I think his name was Eric...but I can't remember exactly. I will NOT be doing business with Cabela's ever again. I went to purchase a firearm, and I have been trying for 3 days. Here is my story. Starting off, I had answered a question that became a red flag. Due to that, they told me to contact KBI to get a record of my background. I had to pay $20 out of my pocket to do so. After doing so, I returned to the store. Everything went okay, they ran my background, they saw my record was true and clear. But even when I brought in the KBI record, they questioned me again and acted hesitant if they would take what I was told to bring in. They told me they wouldn't look up my record on KBI, and that is why I had to pay out of my pocket for my record. I was told that night, I was approved for the gun but I was still red flagged in the Cabela's system so they'd have to get IT to unflag me. So, I went home again with no firearm. The following day, I had called to see when IT would have that cleared so I could return and pick up my firearm. Everyone in the IT department was at lunch along with the person who would directly talk to IT in the firearm department, so they took my info to call me back. I called again later on, HOURS later, and was told they'd give me a call back. The General Manager ended up calling me saying that they had a few questions regarding the "people who came in with me". I had my two young kids, which obviously I don't want to take to a big store like that by myself. My HUSBAND came with me the first day we ran into problems. The following night, my kids and my husband's best friend came with me and my kids. He was shopping for my son's birthday present. They questioned me about them both and said it was suspicious and that their team had told the manager I had came in with different people. They questioned if the gun was even mine. Then I had told him I was told the last night I was approved and waiting on IT, and he told me I was told wrong. So their team is NOT on the same page because I had talked to the manager Terry in the back, multiple people who work at the counter, and the GM. Because of the suspicion and "obstacles" we had to go through they weren't willing to sell me a gun. So after days of talking to Cabelas and KBI, paying out of my own pocket to get proof of my record being clean, I got a run around and no gun. read more

Educate yourself and know what you want. Know that the employees won't generally care of your experience or issues with their products, or other employees. Be careful what business you conduct in Cabela's because I would say out of the numerous times I visited the location, that probably 85% of the time, the store lives up to the below experience in one way or another. I ritualistically visit Cabela's because I'm an avid firearms and outdoors enthusiast. When this location initially opened it was great; and that may be because I was not old enough at the time in order to purchase any firearm related products. Well, a few years have gone by and I have gotten more and more into the realm of purchasing hunting and shooting supplies as well as firearms. I learned not to purchase firearms furthermore due to the fact that their firearms salesmen simply do not care about you. They judge highly based on outward appearance. My mom was going to gift me my first rifle and I went in to purchase it with her so she knew what kind I would want. Well, we had met with the salesman about pulling some from the rack to take a look at. After the second choice, he put it back and my mother asked me if I liked it and I had said yes. Well by the time I told her that I wanted that rifle, the salesman walked away and had begun helping someone else without even a simple, "is that all I can help you with today?".. Well, at this point I do not purchase firearms from this Cabela's because of that. Buying ammunition is a complete different story. They have their entire inventory in a crammed isle which isn't even organized. On the date of this review, I went in to purchase some .308 Win ammunition. I wanted to stay away from steel pin but also didn't want to spend a ton. So I picked up a couple boxes of something new they had to the affect of "Australian Outback Ammo".. Marked $17.59.. So I was like, "heck yes I'll pick some up." I go to the counter and end up standing there because they are very similar to Wal-Mart in that they only keep one check-out lane open at a time no matter the line length. My turn finally comes up and she rings me up and the price instead says $18.99 and I told her that the tag said otherwise. She called for a price check and he ended up taking his time to walk up to the register from the ammo section which I would appreciate but he proceeded to tell me that all the ammo's were mixed and messed up. So I said I would go look for another brand. I walked back and found some Federal Premium soft points that happened to have the same price of $17.59 so I picked them up and called the guy out on it and said that he just moved it from one location to another and pretended not to care or know what I was talking about. I have had another negative experience with this store and strongly reflects the same deplorable characteristics where an employee lied about applying a discount code and repeatedly assured me that he processed the transaction correctly. Well, he didn't and then we went to the customer service desk in order to get it done properly. The person that helped us the second time that day was very caring and much admiration goes out to him. I had the contact number to the General Manager of this location and his name was Dan. He reinforced that if I were to have an experience or anything that was noteworthy, that I can call him and talk about it. Well, it looks like they have since replaced Dan with someone name Angela which I didn't find out until I placed a call to report a complaint on a particular employee that didn't do his job correctly and lied to a customer in order to make his work time more convenient for himself. She didn't address that I wanted to make a complaint and rather offered to take a look at the receipt if I could bring it in. read more

Spent 30 minutes in the footwear department without any employee acknowledging us - the "greeter" at the door didn't even say hello! As we were trying on hiking boots, 3 current employees and 1 apparent former employee stood about 10 feet from us in full view complaining about their jobs and Cabela's business practices. We went ahead and purchased a pair of boots since we had spent so much time checking them out on our own. At checkout I asked to speak to a manager. The cashier didn't know how to reach a manager (!?) so she called the "lead" from the footwear department. Yep - the lead was one of the complaining employees! He apologized but it was rote. I've done business with Cabela's since they were only a catalog business. Frankly, I received way better service through the mail. Probably will buy online from now on. read more

Awesome selection, especially in the gun and optic sections. Staff seemed knowledgeable and willing to help. Probably the best collection of reloading equipment in town. Prices on ammo are extremely good for a brick & mortar store and in some cases as cheap as you could get it online. Also they give a 10% military discount, so be sure to ask for that at checkout. The only downside is that it's almost always extremely crowded...worst on the weekends obviously. If you go on a weeknight it's not as bad though. Oh, and my kids had a blast running around looking at all the animals and fish tank too...good family place. read more

I am not happy with Cabelo's. Purchased a 12 by 12 feet tent Alaskan Guide series. When I purchased the tent the tent did not have poles. OK I knew this but purchased it anyway it appeared to be a good quality tent. Went to use the and guess what the $200.00 dollar poles I purchased were for the tent and tent only. Yes this tent had a fly that come with the tent. You would think for $200.00 dollars poles for the fly would be included. After all the top of the tent has a nylon screen about 6 x 6 feet. As a first-time shopper I had the worst experience. I called ahead of time for a gun magazine that I saw that they had online. The guy told me that they had it in stock so I drove all the way out there to buy it. When I got there the staff was not very helpful. I asked where the product was kept and they pointed in a direction. When I finally found the area where it should be myself, I couldn't find the product I had called about. So I asked one of the employees for some help. He tried to find it and then couldn't. So he got another employee to help us and they came to the conclusion that it was out of stock and that they were sorry. I then informed them that I'd already called before I showed up and the person on the phone told me that they had it. At that point they looked into their inventory and it was showing they had 10 in stock. So one of the employees explained that it most likely had just come in on the truck and that he wouldn't be able to get around to finding it for me since it was to much work to go though all their boxes that have come in. I wasted over an hour on something i thought i could just go there and buy. Very disappointing since some good customer service could have fixed this from the beginning. The persons i talked to on the phone should have checked to see if they had at least one. or the person that was in that department should have gone looking for it in their inventory. They were nice enough to call me and inform me the NEXT day to let me know they had it in stock. At this point i will not be shopping with them again and would warn all customers to assume the employees are idiots and if you call to ask them if they have a product make sure the employee on the phone goes and makes sure they have one in their hand before making a trip to Cabela's. read more

Well went to cabelas for a black friday sale. They had a traeger grill on sale. They were out in the store and said it could be ordered or purchased on line. We tried to order it at the store but there computers were all down. So got the Cabelas card and then went home and ordered it. It didn't arrive. So contacted Cabelas and they said it had been delivered. So called ups to see if it was delivered to wrong house they spent a bunch of time to figure out they had never received it, So called Cabelas back they said actually that the order had been canceled because they didn't have enough in stock. They will not make good on this grill and said that we can buy the new one coming out but it is $200 more. We have already paid $600 so $800 is just ridiculous! This is False advertising. The ad didn't say while supplies last or limited number. This has been a disaster all the way around! The Customer does not come first there. UPDATE: Local store made good on what the company wouldn't so bumping my rating up. Store is good corporate is not so much on the up and up. Still be cautious when shopping online with Cabelas read more
