Ordered a shotgun online. Last one left in U.S. at the time, so it shipped to the Rapid City store. E-mail said, "Come pick it up !" So, 1st trip to store... the fudds told me they couldn't sell it to me because I was an out-of-state resident. Another guy came over and said, "They're wrong ! I'll write you up, and the 3 days' shipping count as your 3-day wait." But, alas, I forgot some of my stuff, so... 2nd time in, I had all my stuff, spent over an hour filling out forms, only to hear, "3-day wait on this !" Okay, no problem but... confused... I'm standing around, and then another fudd comes out of the back and said, "Can't sell this to you because you have been in the state more than 90 days !" WHAT ? I demanded a refund, paid off my CLUB CARD, and went to Scheel's, where I bought a better gun, with zero hassle/ side-eye from clueless fudds. But, you know what ? Bass Pro Shop doesn't care, because they are the Walmart of the sporting goods world, and have the identical philosophy toward their customers. Customer service at Rapid City Bass Pro Shops Cabelas SUCKS. I stood at the gun counter for 10/15 minutes nobody asked me once if I need help or anything. I had money ready to spend. Mind you a sales person walked in front me a least 6 times. But instead of a quick "we'll be right with you" nothing. I think I could get better service at Lowe's. read more

This is a corporate review. They really need to step up their rewards program. You ask for phone number for "demographics" at checkout but it isn't linked to my rewards in your system?!?!?! . Speed up your checkout process. Enter the rewards phone at checkout on the screen like every other place does. Showing a rewards card is crazy. No one even carries cards anymore. I can't speak to the rest of the store but if you're buying a rifle or pistol, STAY AWAY. I'm 71, respectable, pretty much certainly not a criminal nor terrorist, affable, even. I went in to purchase a handgun and each of the FOUR TIMES I HAD TO COME TO THE STORE to buy that pistol I had to wait from 1 to 2 HOURS on Federal forms, a manager to do this or that, someone from the back room to do whatever, it was maddening and insulting. They've got plenty of employees but no one seems to have any sense of urgency or empathy even when they ask customers to STAND AROUND FOR HOURS. I was grumpy, not terribly but not happy BUT all any of the 4 or 5 employees I dealt with would have had to say is, "Oh, those damn Feds, can you believe it?" and that would have taken away about 95% of my bad attitude. Instead I got serious attitude from a couple of employees AND THE MANAGER who advised me to "Move to another state if you don't like it here". Went to the gun section at 9:05am on a Saturday to buy 2 handguns and 1 shotgun. Was very happy until I waited over 10 minutes looking at the gun cases, walking back and forth and looking directly over at the gun salesman who helped one customer then helped a couple that came in after me. Never asked if I needed help, no one did in fact in the better part of 15 minutes. Went to FLEETFARM and gave them my hard earned $1500.00 instead and had amazing service. read more

First Cabela's did not and will not support our gun club when we needed it the most. All they had to do was write a letter of support for us to make the deal with the D&R. We got the gun range anyway on Highway 79, no thanks to them. Second, First Stop Gun Shop folks were polite and knowledgeable, I needed some powder for reloading, they had it at $27. per pound. A huge outfit like Cabela's felt like they needed to add $2 more dollars than First Stop. I will never go to Cabela's, they are not supporters of Gun enthusiasts except of course to make money from us. After spending a chilly night in a little cabin with my somewhat inadequate 55F rated sleep sack, I decided to go off the mountain and leave Custer to find yet another Cabela's for a sleeping bag. I could have searched for other sporting goods places in Rapid City - but Cabela's is a one-stop shop. And - let me tell you - it was over 100 degrees and Rapid City is entirely forgettable! I could NOT believe how hot it was - even the grasshoppers were trying to hitch a ride on my motorcycle from the Cabela's parking lot, begging "Please take us to the mountain, it's too hot and desolate here in the Cabela's parking lot!" To be honest, I thought that there would be a lot better selection of sleeping bags - but I'm pretty happy with the quality of the bag I picked though it certainly would be nice to have one that was more lightweight and compact! Loads of clothing and shoes - this was definitely more the "family camping" sort of Cabela's than other stores I have visited. Service was efficient and attentive - the staff were familiar with the products and helpful. read more

This newest addition to the Cabela's chain was recently opened in Rapid City so I was excited to have a chance to check it out. Cabela's is like the FAO Schwartz of sporting goods. Not only do they have a huge display of locally harvested trophies, they have several world record mounts as well. And that's just what they offer for the eyes. To purchase they offer everything from guns to fishing poles to outdoor gear and shoes to tons of camping gear. I could have spent all day just looking at the camp ovens, jerkey kits, and Underarmor gear. Instead, I had to make a quick trip thru the store. They have a little cafe offering many local favorites as well as a small jewelry counter featuring Black Hills Gold items. Talk about supporting local items! read more

I'm basing this review solely off the fact that we are driving an RV towing a vehicle. We stopped for the night after calling and asking permission. We were told it was no problem and to park in the trailer parking area to the side. We pulled in after dark with multiple other RV and travel trailers already there. When we woke in the morning, the staff was arriving and were parking in the rv spots instead of the staff lot behind the building. One person even pulled into a space in front of a truck pulling a small camper. He had no way to get out. Based on other reviews of the customer service I would not recommend this store. read more

This place is horrible. I go to check out and want to get points on my rewards card. The checkout person said that he couldn't type it in because I didn't have the card to swipe. He said to go to the rewards counter and they could do it. Well that didn't work. The lady said oh you need to go to customer service. By this time after waiting in lines, I put the stuff back. Very underwhelmed. I have been to many cabelas and in their smaller stores like rapid city...they tend to have everything but not enough of anything... Like they cut out having certain camo patterns because of the size of the dept. But they have t-shirts and candy up the ying yang. I wanted to buy a particular pistol, and since Cabela's has no way of checking store inventory on-line, I called the Rapid City store, but no one would check the availability of the pistol I wanted. So, my wife and I made the 98 mile round-trip to the store,and were personally told it wasn't in stock. When I asked whether it could be ordered, the clerk seemed bothered, but said it could. He got a form, which he admitted was the wrong form to use but said it "would do", took the information on the pistol and my contact information, and said I would hear from someone that afternoon with availability and pricing. It's been two days, and I haven't heard a word from anyone. We also looked around at other things while we were there, and the selection was sparse and pricing was high. No reason to ever go back. There are just too many better stores out there. read more

This place is great. Not only is there great shopping inside, but you can stay here for a few days for free. There is RV and Truck parking as well as a septic dump, potable water, dog kennels and horse corrals. These amenities are offered for free. And it seems at all all Cabelas. The only down side is that they are right next to the creek and there are some bugs. It is clean and safe. And you can even run your generator. All in all a great place to hang out for awhile. We even met some great people (other campers) while we were there. read more

They were very helpful in setting me up with a new rod and reel for the local area. Was looking for something cheap but efficient as I was just visiting and have a ton of gear at home. The only issue was the fishing tackle selection. Horrible selection of trout lures and as far as swivels and hooks, you better be prepared to pick up a large pack. They're really isn't a 12 pack of hooks to be found. I had to go to Wal-mart to get some decent lures and a reasonable amount of misc. tackle. read more

I ordered a lower receiver from TN Arms Company and had it delivered to Cabelas because it was a large near by store and I had never ordered anything shipped to an FFL dealer. UPS confirmed delivery on a Tuesday at 1100. I went to Cabelas that night and was told they had no record of it, but that it sometimes takes 24 hours for them to get shipments ready. I called Wednesday morning, they didn't know anything about it. I called Wednesday evening and they still had no record of it. I called Thursday morning, told them that I had the UPS confirmation page in front of me which had the signature of the person who had signed for it on Tuesday morning, and they still had no record in their system of receiving this lower. They transferred me to a manager, who is going to "look into it as sometimes people make mistakes back there" and call me back. I will update this review accordingly. I also placed an order to the store. I called 1 hour after placing the order to edit the order and was told I couldn't change the order because it had already been processed. This order was a week ago, and it still hasn't shipped. Thus far the service seems to be indifferent at best and the attitude seems to be that I am an annoyance rather than a customer. They don't seem particularly concerned about my customer satisfaction at the moment. I'm currently building an AR15, the lower receiver was the first part I ordered and the last part to actually arrive. Everyone else I have dealt with during this build has offered amazing customer service. read more

I originally went in to shop for some warm clothes, but stopped by the sunglass kiosk. I was warmly greeted by sales associate, Barry. He was extremely helpful and welcoming. He invited me to try on whichever pair I would like and to let him know if I wanted to see any inside the cases. He was so helpful and enthusiastic about the products, you would think he handcrafted every single one of them himself. I'd like to recognize the enthusiastic and friendly service he gave me. Good gun selection, New and Used. Bought a couple rifles here good experience. Of course do your research because they don't know specifications on every gun they sell. But they know basics. Great place to buy primers but lousy for powder. Huge shotgun shell selection, and if you are looking to sell a gun they will give you just below market, but is the easiest place to sell or trade a gun. For Rapid City it is usually here and scheels for reloading supplies. read more

I went to Cabela's last week to buy a Springfield M1A they had advertised on their online catalog. Upon entering the gun department, I spoke with a man at the counter, telling him that I had seen the catalog and wanted to see the if they still had an M1A in stock. This man took me to the gun library, where they have 6 M1 Garands. The Garand is an excellent rifle, but that's not what I'm here for. I want the civilian version of the M14. He tells me, that he's sorry, he doesn't know where he can find it, but maybe the manager does. Unfortunately, he's busy, so I try another person at the counter, who was eyeballing me as I walked up and down the line. I ask him the same question, "I was looking through the online catalog for this store, and I understand you have a Springfield M1A in stock. Would I be able to see it?" This guy says it's in the gun library, and my heart sinks. Once again, we end up in front of 6 M1 Garands. Again, I have to describe exactly what it is I'm looking for "The full sized, standard M1A, Looks like an M14." No dice, this guy's stumped too. So I spend 30 mins waiting for the manager, who actually DID know what I was looking for (because he's the only one in the firearms department who actually knows firearms it seems). He tells me it was sold a week ago. As disappointed as I am, I decide to start a form to order from another store in the DC area. We complete said form and the salesman tells me that they will call me when the weapon ships. 5 days pass with no call, so I call them. They tell me that the store that has the weapon has not responded to their inquiry "but if you give me a couple more days..." The next day, I go downtown to First Stop Gun and Coin. They have the exact Rifle I'm looking for. I walk out 20 mins later with my rifle, a case, and 2 mags. I then promptly cancelled my order with Cabela's. Don't go to Cabela's for Firearms. Give a local ma and pop places a chance. They want your business. Cabela's apparently doesn't. read more
