Kicking myself that I've not come in here sooner. I've been to a huge Bass Pro store when I lived in Calgary. It's not so much of a need for me as it is a novelty. I do like to fish but just don't go often enough anymore and I have a lot of gear already. It is dog friendly here and Santa was in store so off we went on a Sat at 1pm... And wow. Was blown away. The cool people are here! Lol! The men.... Are here! Nice customers, many with their own dogs! My pooch loved the display at the back with all the taxidermy deer, bear, geese etc. the running waterfall was a great effect on the mini mountain. The store was busy but well laid out. Clean. The huge signs above the sections tell you where to go. I was surprised at alllll the pet things. Gift ideas, spices. Xmas food items. Staff wear green shirts with name tags and they were so great and good to my dog. She was spoiled. Santa loves dogs too! We stayed at least 2 hours... Blew about $75 but I see this as an amazing outing every couple of weekends. Things are on clearance but scattered throughout the store. Washroom was at the front at the massive fireplace. Check outs didn't take long. Lol... I went thru x 2. Tons of parking. read more

UPDATE / NEWSFLASH: On October 3, 2016, it was announced that the Bass Pro Shops has acquired all Cabela's stores in a $5.5 Billion Dollar USD deal! Will this store change branding to Bass Pro? That has not been decided yet. However, their stellar sales, breaking records in Canada, should be encouraging to Bass Pro. Stay tuned for details!! ________________ They've had spectacular attendance for their opening weekend - September 22-25 2016. I went in to see what it's like, comparing it to their biggest competition (Bass Pro is NOT located in Ottawa, unfortunately - but there is one in the outskirts of Toronto, which is where I have been.) This store was mobbed! There are many similarities, such as they've kept the taxidermists quite busy with all the animals on display. The entrance has several such displays set up, high above the entrance where people can't touch them. Bears, deer, etc. Everywhere I went, I could hear "pop! pop! pop!", and when I got to the back of the store, I found out why: there's a display of animals cavorting down a rock-mountain, and kids and adults alike are playing with wooden toy guns that produce a popping noise when they go off. Meanwhile, in the rest of the store, they sell fishing and hunting equipment, including a long counter where they sell rifles. They sell camouflage clothes, as well as footwear for all ages, and camping and cooking gear (I noticed a deep fryer). Cabela's does NOT have a huge fish tank. There was a fudge factory (with a lineup), and candied nuts (I had a sample; they were good!). I will go back again to take a closer look, and perhaps try some footwear on, when it will hopefully be a little less crowded. read more

Cabelas has everything you could ever need for being outdoors. Camping, fishing, hunting (hunting rifles, ammunition, bait, traps), food preparation (cooking, smoking, dehydrating). It's a great place to spend a few hours looking through all the stuff they have and to find stuff to equip your outdoors kit with. read more

Archery department , the employees had no time to serve me , when I ask questions about the weight and length of the arrow , he said they are all the sane ? The two employees knows nothing about archery , and are misinforming people that are buying archery . I felt like I was disturbing them , service sucks . read more

Previously, I would have given this store five stars but a cashier by the name of Cameron treated me, and customers ahead of me, with disdain and borderline rudeness. It will be quite a while before I return to the store because of that cashier. read more

I have to give top rating because each time I've come here to look at rifles and shotguns (and sunglasses, and camping gear, and and and...), the staff have been super attentive and friendly and knowledgeable. Today while I was just looking at and pondering a 12-gauge double barrel break action shotgun that I really like, but am unsure of because I don't want to have my shoulder ripped off when firing it, the young woman behind the counter overheard me and gave me some solid advice on how to choose a shotgun model that would have the least amount of kickback. Thankfully, the one I like is the right kind of model! I've seen several outdoor gear items here that were $5-$10 cheaper than what they charge for the exact same item/brand at MEC, so I'll always come here first to look for stuff, even though it's a bit outside of town. Really, this place is an outdoor-lover's dream. I've also found excellent outdoor wear - clothes and shoes - at very good sale prices. Normally, I don't shop big chain stores like this, but outdoor activities are my thing and you don't often find many mom and pop stores with all the gear. Totally disgusted, I am a First Nations person, I used my tax exemption on a few large purchases. They accused me of fraud. I asked for a manager, Kieth, he changed the story saying that the scanners cant read fraudulent cards. They actually said there is liquid paper on my card which there obviously isn't and the thin black line that is on the card to place the photo into was another photo underneath my picture. If Cabelas wants to be a fashion store they need to stop advertising they cater to hunters or shooters, especially if items are advertised in their flyers. First off young and I mean very young staff shouldn't be serving customers at a desk where they know nothing about the product, in this case ammunition. When you ask for a specific caliber and they look it up and show 3 boxes but they can't find it and send you on to the front desk guy who says you should go back to the desk you came from... what kind of dog and pony show is this store? I was told to come back after the weekend, where the flyer prices are for another 10 days. I called and was told they now found the ammunition but not on sale any more. The manager wouldn't even take my call, just telling the clerk I could go elsewhere and they might pricematch. Seriously?? It's patently obvious they need competition and an intensive course on customer relations. read more

I'll stick with Sails. warranty at Cabelas is terrible. Returned with a broken rod and all they could say was it's not our brand you'll need to send to the manufacture. If you're going to sell someone's product you should be able to warranty it. 90 days doesn't help much when you bought it in the spring. Even the store manager really didn't care how everyone just fluffed me off. Sails will warranty IN STORE for one year and you don't need a receipt cause they keep all your info in store by your phone #. Guess that new trolling motor and fish finder will be bought at Sails. read more
