On October 14, 2017, I went to check out through the Customer Service Desk instead of a register because of an issue with a points card. I had two paper coupons and a coupon via email, each stating $20 off a $100 purchase. Before today, I separated out my merchandise to equate to three separate transactions. This evening I had around $ 350 worth of merchandise. I was informed by the manager on duty, Kim, that the coupons were not valid with bargain cave items, which has never been the case in the past. The fine print on the coupon DOES NOT state that Bargain Cave items are not included. She tried to claim that a Bargain Cave item is considered a promotion. I asked her for proof of the policy since I have always used it previously with a mix of regular and bargain cave items. At that time, she stated she did not have to show or prove anything to me and proceeded to call the police because "She didn't have to deal with this." Needless to say, I will not be going to the Hammond, Indiana store again to be treated so poorly, when I am spending hundreds of dollars. read more

I stop here on a regular basis for the firearm department. Depending on which salesperson you get, the experience can go either way. Some of the younger ones will treat you like a dummy as and the others like a old friend. After many visits here I know who to avoid. I just wish they would raise some of the limits on ammo. read more

Not that I'm an avid outdoorsman or anything, but Cabela's has the best variety and the great customer service. My parents and brothers (who ARE avid outdoors people) love Cabela's for those two reasons and can spend hours there. I should be bored out of my mind, but I always seem to find something I take interest in as well. I particularly liked the layout of this store better than the other two I've visitied in the past. They carry all gear year round so you don't have to wait for something to be "in season" to find what you're looking for. read more

This store has anything you could want for outdoorsy stuff. I get dragged here at least once a month by my boyfriend. I like outdoorsy stuff but definitely not as much as he does. Brought in a pristine S & W Model 629, 44 Mag 5.5" NRA Special with a serial number under 10 to the Hammond store, thinking about adding some cash and walking out with two other weapons. The only time this weapon was fired was at the factory. Its been oiled up and placed in the safe. Now Cabella's is over priced in the first place..... now would you believe, the clown in the Gun Library made an issue the weapon was oily, dirty? When I told him it been in a safe for 10 years, never fired, he then chose to look down the barrel. Da. Now its not because of being upset, but their prices are way, way, way out of line.....No wonder big box stores are loosing $$$$$. Low ball number.....so low it was insulting..... Me and my family were out shopping in the Hammond Indiana area yesterday and were looking for a ATM to get some cash before returning home and realized Cabelas has our banks ATM inside. We arrived at the Hammond location at ten till 6 and were greeted by Jodi the Receiving Manager standing outside. She was telling customers they couldn't come in and that they were closing. I explained to her that I wanted to use the ATM and she kept telling me that they were closing. I said well if you're closing then you're not closed yet and I could probably use the ATM and be out before you closed. She continued to argue with me and tell me they were closing. I said well if you are closing that means you're not closed yet. She continued back and forth until I was able to walk past her, go inside use the ATM the entire time I could hear her in the background from the front door telling other guests basically to go away. This has left an absolute bad taste in my mouth and I plan to never return to Cabela's if at all possible. There are plenty of other online and local options. Not sure who she think she is and why she was telling paying customers to leave before the store was even closed. Terrible customer service. Employees like that aren't worth the damage caused to your companies name. I take 4 Fishing trips a year and fish twice a week normally. Been Fishing since I was 5. I belong to a local Bass club and own a rod company. I was at yhe grand opening of this location and have shopped it every Fishing season since. I won't return. read more

This place is ridiculous, we stopped here on our way to Milwaukee, it is shopping and a natural history museum rolled into one. The sale section is huge, the taxidermy animals were my favorite! Except the rino they are all real. They have great shoes and a wide range of top of the line American made goods like Chippewa boots, all the way down to the cheaper stuff. read more

I recently purchased some handgun ammo at Cabela's, I bought several boxes and did not notice that one of the boxes was the wrong ammo. I went to the same Cabela's store today and was advised that there is no exchange or returns on ammunition. Once you walk out the door of the store all ammo sales are final!! I called the corporate headquarters when I got home and after @ 20 minutes on the phone was advised by the Cabela's spokesperson that all ammo and firearm sales are final and no refunds, exchanges are allowed due to lability issues. My response was, there were no signs in the store that I saw that stated that policy, and no salesperson mentioned that to me. I was told that if I had gone on the Cabela's website I would have noticed that. My response was that they should have signage in the stores stating that also. The response was that I could either try to sell this box of ammo on e-bay or give it to someone else. I told this person that last year my son and I spent over $20,000.00 at Cabela's and so far this year over $300.00. I told the spokesperson that if that is the policy of Cabela's I would find another sports store to do business with, the response was that's you option. Firearms and ammo customers beware of any purchase at Cabela's, once they get your money they don't care!! Last year when I purchased a new Tracker boat package there were some parts missing and the owner's manuals, it took repeated phone calls and over 2 months for Cabela's to get me the missing materials. I independetly called both Tracker and Mercury and had the manuals within a week of my call. Customer service is not on Cabela's priority list, Gary J. read more

It's a beautiful store with a huge selection of items. The prices are a bit on the high side, although they're better than the other large outdoor retailers in the area. The main issue at this location is the lack of product knowledge by the staff. For instance, last fall I was looking for fatwood sticks (used to help start campfires) and none of the three staff I spoke to had any idea what I was talking about or where fire starting products were located. I finally found some on my own, in less time than I wasted talking to staff. As a contrast to my Cabela's experience, I went into a local Walmart this past week hoping to find the same product. I asked the seventy-ish year old lady working the sporting goods counter if she knew where any fire starting products were. She immediately asked whether I was looking for the wax cube type starters, fatwood sticks, or the larger starter logs. When I confirmed that I wanted fatwood, she said they were out of them until the next shipment that was due in a week or so and then proceeded to suggest an alternate product in the grilling supplies that I could use in the meantime. Cabela's needs to hire more people like her. read more

I stopped in recently to pick up my new fire arm. I know a little bit firearms so I brought my usual supplies. Tony at the gun counter imparted his military knowledge about ammunition and other specs that I should be aware of. Which I wasn't. The worst experience ever in a firearms department. Went to pick up a gun today at Cabella's. Had to wait in line for over 45 minutes and had other patrons crossing over the barrier (posted sign saying to wait at the front of the line for customer service) to look at guns and get help from the salesmen. Made a comment to the customer service salesmen and was told that I would have to leave the building. I went to wait in line with my husband longer when I see more patrons going under the barrier and went to the front of the line and asked another salesmen why were they allowed to look at the guns when other patrons were in line waiting to look or buy guns. He could not answer the question so I asked for the manager. Phil (the manager) told me it was none of my business and if I did not go back to the line I would be asked to leave the store. I was not rude, nor did I cuss or was I belligerent. Were is it that you cannot make a complaint and then get told to leave the store? We ended up returning our gun and going to Bass Pro Shop and spent over $700 at that store. Cabella's just lost another customer. read more

I recently purchased a rifle and was very disappointed with the service at the gun counter. The guy acted clueless as to guns and the person who mounted my scope put the rings on backwards and they ended up breaking after a few shots. I called Back and the person didn't want to take any blame for the scope mounting. I am going to Alaska on a caribou hunt and this was the last thing I needed to happen. read more

Went to the store for the Club Members Event. Had a pleasant experience shopping around the store with my father for some Christmas gifts. When we went to check out I presented a rebate form that I was told by Kim, the manager, that is was not valid because it was a coupon. Last time I checked a REBATE was not a coupon. I was also told that my rebate was considered Club Cash, which they were accepting if it was on your credit card account. I my purchase down and proceeded to walk out, but first I wanted to see what the customer service desk had to say, and when they were unsure they called over their manager, which also happened to be Kim.... Left the store extremely unhappy! Called customer service and after speaking with two representatives that were not familiar with the event that was taking place at the stores I was able to speak with Tyler. He could not believe that they did not even try to take off the rebate with the discount because it was considered as "cash" to Cabela's. I was able to order the item that I wanted over the phone and it was pain-free. Cabela's is great and I will continue to shop with them as they have great products, however, if you can go to a different store I recommend it. I will be calling Monday when I can speak with the store manager to make sure I do not have this experience again. Again if you are dealing with Kim, the manager, you might as well be talking to a wall because she does not care what you have to say she will just talk right over you, and think whatever she says is correct.. read more

I tried to return an order that was back ordered because I spoke to Kim in customer service and she said the item would not ship until after Christmas. When I tried to cancel she said "oh wait, it's actually going to ship in a couple of days". I then asked her to cancel the item because I would rather order from Bass Pro Shops where the employees don't misinform me and then refuse to cancel an order. Traci or Tracy the "supervisor" (please retrain her she is AWFUL) also refused to cancel the order because "she isn't going to unload a semi just to get my package off to cancel it because they have other customers". I never once asked her to unload a semi, just cancel an order that was being shipped to a store. ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!?!? IS THIS HOW YOU TRAIN YOUR "SUPERVISORS"???? I REFUSE TO EVER ORDER ANOTHER THING FROM CABELAS AND WILL BE LETTING ANYONE AND EVERYONE I KNOW HOW HORRIBLE THIS COMPANY IS. You can't cancel my order BEFORE it ships because it's already on a semi truck even though I was told it wasn't shipping until after christmas and then told it was already on a truck??? What kind of conflicting information were the two LEAST HELPFUL "employees" looking at??? I WANT THIS ORDER CANCELLED IMMEDIATELY. I have learned my lesson to order from literally ANY other company before ordering from this joke of a customer service company. read more

Prices are on average 15% Higher then other options. On you like flies on stink trying to get your application for A credit line. A salesman even grabbed my cart while filling it with my clay targets and parked it to disrupt my shopping. Just to walk me all the way down the stairs to apply. Free hat with their name all over it to apply. I even said I just took the elevator to this department and just starting shopping. He didn't care. $80 for A plain no name single layer flannel shirt...No thanks. Then @ checkout early Sunday 2 cashiers open and 2 persons in each line with no more than 3 items each. It literally took 20 minutes until I was checked out. Then last minute cashier entered something wrong and had to rescan all my items. I'm A cash customer and Have only Sundays off just to spend way to much time there with their logistics. I lost lot's of valuable time with my family in the outdoors cause I chose to drive the 30 miles to shop here and waste my time. No price matching either to retain business. this cabela is a bit closer to me so i come to this location more often.. to me this location is more organized with their ammo than the one in Hoffman estates so its a bit easier to find.. what I dislike about it is that they don't advertise their sales well enough unless you read about the deal somewhere else.. like if u go in their randomly like me and u will see the ones on sale is on the end caps or separate stands but u will not of known that there was rebates for them.. read more

Cabela's SUCKS. Went in yesterday after work to pick up a gun that I have on layaway, much to my surprise 4 of the 6 registers were open, each with a customer and the stupid red barricade was down. So I look around and there is no customers at the counter just employees, my lucky day. I get in line behind a couple from Chicago that were filling out a 4473 and proceed to wait for my turn. Now I've been here before, bought a gun on every even numbered month, love their gun library. A time before a Cabela's employee gave a woman some shit for standing next to her husband because she could be coaching him on how to fill out the 4473, so she moves aside and then the very same employee goes over and starts telling a Mexican who doesn't speak English how to fill out the form, a lot of us in line called bullshit and became a little loud and he canceled the transaction. Now back to yesterday. The people in front of me were being helped with filling out their 4473 by the nice Cabela's guy who was giving them the answers. Meanwhile a line of about 20 people has formed behind me with employees standing around scratching their asses not helping anyone instead of opening the other 2 registers. A manager comes out from the back room and looks at me and says "you can pay for purchases downstairs" so I tell him I'm there to pick up a layaway so he asks me if I took a number and I said no because when I got there no one there and the barricade was down and he refused to wait on me and told me to take a number and I had already been waiting for 20 minutes. I have a C&R FFL and am not required to fill out a 4473 as it is a straight dealer to dealer transfer but Cabela's makes me fill on out anyway, no big deal. I'm going to go back to pick up the gun, I was so pissed that I left and after that I will never be back.Just read in the American Rifleman that Cabela's and Bass Pro are now one and the same, so there's another store that I won't be going to either. I went there to buy a gun and they didn't have what I wanted in stock. They asked me to fill out a card with my personal information and the gun I wanted to order. They told me they would contact me when it came in and it might be two or three weeks. I waited four weeks and they never called so I went back to the store and drew a number to wait 30 minutes to be told that they don't have my any record of my information and I could fill out a card to place my order. I told them I already did that over two weeks ago. He said "well who ever took your card did not give it to the girl that takes care of ordering and you'll have to fill out another card". I told him I already filled out a card and I'm not doing it again and I'm ticked off and not going to buy a gun here. What has happened to customer service? Not even an "I'm sorry for your inconvenience", just, "we don't have your information". I absolutely do not recommend this store for a gun purchase. Really poor customer service. read more

bunch of bullshit. this evening i was browsing this store. before i left, i decided to try out the arcade type shooting gallery. i put the only bill that i had, a $10, into the charger,and received 40 tokens. i played one round which cost 2 tokens, and realized that i needed to get home. i left the arcade and proceeded to customer service,and don't explained that i had no needed for the other 38 tokens,and asked if i could cash them in. i was told that cabella's would not cash them in for me and too bad. the girl at counter then had the nerve to say that if i didn't want the tokens that she would take them from me,but i would not receive any money. what a stupid assistance thing to say! why in the hell would i give the store the tokens that i paid for and not receive any renumeration and just leave? ! what a stupid goof clerk was to even suggest this! bad enough i can't get my money back,but store wants to take items to keep free of charge which they were just going to eventually put back into token machine and resell! cheaters! hope the rest of my colleagues listen to this and buy their weapons and ammo elsewhere. read more
