Sturgeon County Kennels - Sturgeon County Kennels makes JoJo a happy girl!

Sturgeon County Kennels

I'm going to cheat on this one a bit and just cut and paste a Google review that Heather posted on…read moreSturgeon County Kennels. I added this business, and was surprised it wasn't listed. We can't say enough great things about this place... we love our dog to the moon and are so lucky to have such a loving, caring place for her to stay when we are out of town. But Heather said it better, so here is her review: We are fairly regular visitors to Sturgeon County Kennels, bringing our pooch JoJo in while we're out of town throughout the year. We have been bringing her here for about seven years and do not hesitate to recommend the facility to absolutely everyone we can. The team here is amazing and our girl literally power pulls us from the car to the main building each time we arrive and if her tail excitedly helicoptered any faster, she would be flying there! Aside from the most fantastic team of professionals, who we truly believe care for our dog as much as we do, the facility is very well kept and clean no matter what time of the day you arrive. A family run small business, it appears to be a busy location at peak times, so it's good to make reservations in advance. The layout is such, though, that a full house doesn't translate into over-populated and all the dogs have their own private space to roam in their kennels in addition to access to a common area outside. Our pooch JoJo is great with people and bigger dogs but isn't so keen on little dogs. The Sturgeon County team always takes note and makes sure she doesn't bother the little guys but still gets her exercise and social time with the big dogs. Last but not least, we can't say enough about Sue from the team. She truly has become a friend we look forward to seeing and our dog is so genuinely overjoyed each time she's there! Sue goes above and beyond in her customer service focus and it's more than evident she loves her job and the dogs she cares so well for. We've test driven a half dozen kennels in the Edmonton area and now look no further. We will continue to bring JoJo to her home away from home where she is cared for like at her own home. If we could give Sturgeon 10 out of five stars, we wouldn't hesitate!!

The Second Pup and Kitties Too

On The Second Pup's website, they state they are "a luxury home and spa for your furry friend." I…read morethink my puppy would definitely agree with that statement. After hearing several doggy daycare horror stories, and having a bad experience of our own, it was refreshing and a relief to have The Second Pup recommended to us who could be considered somewhat of a dog guru. Janet & Miranda who run the business are very friendly, knowledgeable, eager to learn more about dogs and in general, are in love with dogs. I think this is really important and it shows in the way they treat and interact with the dogs- this is more than just a business to them. The Second Pup is a house that has been converted to be all for the dogs; tons of couches and beds and even crates for the dogs to feel comfortable and over an acre of land for them to run to their heart's desire outside. The premises are kept very clean without a hint of dog smell, which is impressive. A day of day care is priced at $25, but the price is reduced if purchasing a multi day pass; they also offer overnight boarding and grooming services. I would definitely recommend The Second Pup to anyone searching for a loving fun home away from home for their furry friend.

They are well cared for and in a space completely separated from the dogs. It is definitely their home away from home.

In Spruce Grove, Michelle's is the best. I have had 7 dogs and a cat over time and experienced it…read moreall. Michelle's is home pet sitting so your dog is never in a cage or kennel or run. She has a huge fenced in yard for the dogs to run around. They live in her house and Michelle is mostly at home. Our dog is a golden 16.5 y old and a Pom puppy. By the proof is in the homecoming. We have had stressed dogs, dogs on a hunger strike - cat to the tune of $2000 in vet bills after a 3 day stay somewhere else in Stony Plain - bladder infections, pressure sores. The dogs are perfect - calm and like they just went out for a walk. Our dogs are NEVER going anywhere else! Thank you Michelle for looking after our precious fur babies.

I'm SO lucky to have found Michelle. Since pets aren't allowed on intercity buses in Alberta, I…read moreneed somewhere for my rabbit to stay whenever I travel back to Calgary. After looking at my options online, I stumbled about Michelle's website and decided to give her a try. She runs the business completely out of her home which means your pets have 24 hour care in case of an emergency. Unlike other in-home care I have experienced where they allow far too many pets at once, Michelle caps it at the number she can handle which is great. It also means spots fill up fast so make sure you book ahead, especially for the busier seasons. Michelle is so nice and personable. I always feel completely at ease leaving my rabbit with her. She updates her business page on facebook frequently with pictures of her "guests" having fun. It's a great feeling knowing you can travel and not worry that your pets are getting the care they deserve.

Monika's Rainbow Dog Training

She said that the injury my dog sustained didn't match that of a dog altercation. She had questioned why there were no bite marks on my dog." She explained to me my options for treatment and was very thorough. It was about 12am, I had my kids at home and my decision was to take Navy home with the medication they had given me and I would re asses in the morning for possible xrays, ct scans, blood work and ultrasounds. Once I got home to take a better look at Navy I began to see a lot of what looked like sores and scabs all over her body. One under her armpit, one on each of her front paws, some down the back of her front leg, and some on her neck. At first I thought these marks were from the dog altercation but upon further inspection, as I noticed when she was in the bath, they we already scabbed over. They were not wounds from a recent dog altercation. And they didn't look as though they were bite marks. They looked more like burn marks or sores. The next morning I woke up to a text from Monika. "I haven't slept, any info." I explained to her what the vet said and told her the issues Navy had. (Blood in urine, excessive water drinking etc) I asked her to explain what happened in either a text or voice note so I could take that right to the vet as I didn't want to miss understand anything or explain it wrong. As soon as I asked for that Monika's demeanour changed. She began calling me over and over, (I couldn't answer as I was at work) she sent me voice notes saying "it was my fucking dog that got hurt not yours." And just kept explaining that my dog had chewed through the kennel(this time her story changed to 45 minutes instead of 5) and bit her dog and that was it. When I was able to answer Monika's call it was about 12 minutes long. The only thing she kept repeating was "I didn't do anything wrong" and "your dog chewed through my kennel" and "my dog was bleeding." Other then that I couldn't get much else out of her. I explained all the marks on my dog, what the vet said, and what I had noticed since my dog returned home. I did ask for her to pay for the vet bill. I explained that my dog was in her care and that I felt it was the right thing to do. She never agreed to pay the vet bill until the end of the conversation. I said thank you and she hung up on me. Since then I haven't been able to get payment for the vet bill and not once has Monika asked how my dog is doing nor will she respond. It's not top priority for me right now but I also never received an assessment for my dog. I still don't know why she reacts to other dogs or how to correct it. I wish I had gotten more video of when I first picked her up and how she looked. But at the time I thought it was just a dog altercation. If I had known this was going to be dog abuse I would have started documenting right away. Although I don't believe this should have happened in the hands of a dog trainer with "25 years experience", I do understand that sometimes things happen. If I thought even for a second that this was from a dog altercation I would not be posting this right now. But when I started explaining what happened to my dog to a few friends, I learned that this is not the first time Monika has been neglectful and abusive with dogs. I spoke to a very kind woman name Trish, who's dog spent 10 days in ICU because of an incident occurring in Monika's care. After hearing her story I am pretty lucky my dog is in the shape she is in. We are hopeful for a fully recovery but it's going to take a long time. I CANNOT allow this to happen to anyone else or their beloved family dog. This isn't just a simple story of crappy customer service. This is abuse. This is a living breathing animal who is deeply loved by their family. I know I'll never get the truth as to what happen to my dog. And I know it's my word against hers. But these injuries on my dog are not of a dog altercation. I am taking the necessary steps and contacting the right authorities to make sure I'm doing everything I can to prevent this from happening ever again. Feel free to share to make people aware of what's going on. Especially pet owners. These are the pictures of her sores. I am unable to show a video of how she walks currently because the vet said she is to be on strict rest. I have to keep her medicated on pain killers(mildly sedative) muscle relaxants and anti inflammatories.
