Backpackers St. Pauli is exactly what the name says: a place for backpackers who like to stay in…read moreSt. Pauli, Hamburg's more alternative area. If I'm honest, I have to say that I regret staying in this area a bit. Not because it isn't nice - it's extremely cute! - but I would prefer staying closer to the city center and just take a small trip out to visit St. Pauli next time. It was just too much for me, with a (way) more than average amount of drunk / wasted people. I didn't feel save walking around alone in the evening here - at all. The rooms - at least the 6 person dorm - I stayed at was wonderful. There were three bunk beds, big lockers for each person in the room that you can use for free (!) and that are big enough to put a complete (55+15 liter) backpack in! And each room has a private bathroom of that kind you'd easily have at home, which I'd say is a dream when staying at hostels. It's a perfect hostel to stay at and the staff is nice, but I didn't feel safe (not even in my room at night - both because of all the drunk people walking by and people climbing up to my window (!) to ask nasty stuff...) so I wouldn't exactly recommend it.

Actually I forgotten I had even checked into this place until I read Andrews review on it…read more Pretty cool little hostel, nice location, easy to book into and theres a cafe/bar at the front entry downstairs. The night I stayed there was only one other person staying in our 6 person dorm which I thought was good value for money. I found the lockers a bit small though.

An industrial hostel is what I would call it. The place is huge…read more You have to pay for everything: breakfast, bed linens, towels. The hostel has no personal touch and is stripped of all personality. It feels sterile and cold; it's not a welcoming place. My favorite hostels are places where you get to meet and talk to other people travelling, in a safe and relaxed environment. This place is the opposite, and the sense of "temporary" is really breathing down your neck never letting you feel at home. The place has a big bar, paid coffee machines, an ATM, a big seating area (near the bar). But I don't really care about all of that. The place is just fine if you wanna have a place to sleep (which is what I needed), but comparing to other hostels - the experience is lacking, which why I give 3 stars.

This is the worst hostel I've ever been. Location…read moreThe hostel is very close to the central station but also in one of the most dangerous areas in Hamburg. One of the drug stations is close to the hostel. I stayed three nights in this Hostel. And the police was every day there. One night, the police hammered at every door in the hostel to search for someone without even having a warrant. Close to the hostel is a more expensive supermarket, called Real. The police was every day there, too. Facilities First hostel without a kitchen. The hostel offers a kitchen online, which was just opened for breakfast in the morning. And it is not for everyone to use. Breakfast cost 5 euro. The hostel has a coffe machine in the lobby, which cost 1,90 euro for a coffee. You have also to pay for bed facilities such as a duvet etc. you pay automatically 3,50 euro for bed facilities but when you enter the room there are free duvet etc on the bed. Furthermore, you have to pay a tax of 54 cent per day, which is also not included in the booking. The hostel has a bar with overpriced food. They warm up a small frozen Pizza and sell it for 5 euro. Rooms The cleaing servicve came 9 in the morning before check out and woke up everyone in the room. The heater was not working one night. and it was winter. The rooms are clean but full. The hostel has 8 floors but opens a female room just when the other two are totally full. The bed is very expensive for what you get. I paid around 14 to 15 euro for a bed in a female six bed dormitory. Guests Due to the location and maybe the bad reviews there are less tourists in this hostel. Most of the guests are foreign workers, who live in Germany or German residents, who have no home or travel. I was wondering why there are no international tourists in this hostel. Reception The service is as less as possible. To summarize, this hostel is just a money machine. Additional and hidden costs are not unusual in this hostel. Less service for high price. Would never stay here again.
