The rooms are tastefully decorated, the bathroom is large and well equipped. The view from the "20up" bar in the 20th Floor by day and by night is a fantastic experience. We had a five-course dinner in the hotel, which had ups and downs, all in all it was ok. Another hint: Breakfast is too expensive (20,- EUR), at least if you don't eat much for breakfast. Directly beside the hotel there is a small café where you get an excellent breakfast for about 10, - EUR.

But…read moreapart from the social idea, it is a normal 3 star hotel that provides all comfort you can expect in that category, with very nice and new furniture, modern TV screen and wireless internet. The breakfast buffet is also good for a hotel of such a small size. I arrived late in the evening (around 10pm), which means that you need to check in with the night clerk, who is not normal hotel staff but was also very friendly. In addition, I found a personalised welcome letter on my bed. The only minus was that the (non-handicapped) staff could not provide us with good information on how to get to a specific location by public transport. In the end we were faster to check it online by ourselves. But apart from that, I was very happy with my stay there and would stay there again whenever I come back to Hamburg because I really support the idea, but also because it is just a very good and comfortable hotel. The price was ok, too (73 Euro per night).

The first room we stayed in (we eventually changed rooms) didn't have its own restroom, so we needed to use the common bathroom, which was, itself, gross--people used the toilet and didn't flush; the lock on the stall didn't work. The showers were so gross that my partner insisted on buying sandals to use it. Moreover, there was no temperature regulation in the common shower, so only burning-hot water came out. The lighting in the hallway outside of our room didn't work. The door to our room had holes in it and the lock appeared to have been kicked in at one time (I'm not joking or exaggerating.) The entire lobby reeks of cigarettes. The hostel is situated in a *very* rowdy neighborhood (Reeperbahn), which is full of drug addicts, homeless folks, and prostitutes (my purpose here is not to judge them, but to give you a sense of what kind of environment you'd be in). The hostel is accessed through an alleyway surrounded by strip clubs, which had vomit in it when we left to go out one night. The place is quite noisy. All in all, it was a pretty sh*tty experience.

I love Reeperbahn and especially St Pauli, so the location is perfect and because it's a bit away from the street you can't hear that noise... But you do hear the noise of thr big groups coming back from partying all night long, stamping through the hallways and rooms upstairs and yelling... So I didn't have a lot of sleep. When I wanted to take a shower I had to go to the shared bathroom (which I shared with like 15 rooms...). There were 5 showers and none of them had hot water. It was freezing in this bathroom and with just cold water I was an icecube when I came out. There was only one toilet for both women and men for all these rooms. When I said something about this the girl at the desk told me that it always takes a long time to get warm water... Well didn't dare to try it again. I decided that this was my last time in AO Reeperbahn!
