An industrial hostel is what I would call it. The place is huge. You have to pay for everything: breakfast, bed linens, towels. The hostel has no personal touch and is stripped of all personality. It feels sterile and cold; it's not a welcoming place. My favorite hostels are places where you get to meet and talk to other people travelling, in a safe and relaxed environment. This place is the opposite, and the sense of "temporary" is really breathing down your neck never letting you feel at home. The place has a big bar, paid coffee machines, an ATM, a big seating area (near the bar). But I don't really care about all of that. The place is just fine if you wanna have a place to sleep (which is what I needed), but comparing to other hostels - the experience is lacking, which why I give 3 stars. read more

This is the worst hostel I've ever been. Location The hostel is very close to the central station but also in one of the most dangerous areas in Hamburg. One of the drug stations is close to the hostel. I stayed three nights in this Hostel. And the police was every day there. One night, the police hammered at every door in the hostel to search for someone without even having a warrant. Close to the hostel is a more expensive supermarket, called Real. The police was every day there, too. Facilities First hostel without a kitchen. The hostel offers a kitchen online, which was just opened for breakfast in the morning.And it is not for everyone to use. Breakfast cost 5 euro. The hostel has a coffe machine in the lobby, which cost 1,90 euro for a coffee. You have also to pay for bed facilities such as a duvet etc. you pay automatically 3,50 euro for bed facilities but when you enter the room there are free duvet etc on the bed. Furthermore, you have to pay a tax of 54 cent per day, which is also not included in the booking. The hostel has a bar with overpriced food. They warm up a small frozen Pizza and sell it for 5 euro. Rooms The cleaing servicve came 9 in the morning before check out and woke up everyone in the room. The heater was not working one night. and it was winter. The rooms are clean but full. The hostel has 8 floors but opens a female room just when the other two are totally full. The bed is very expensive for what you get. I paid around 14 to 15 euro for a bed in a female six bed dormitory. Guests Due to the location and maybe the bad reviews there are less tourists in this hostel. Most of the guests are foreign workers, who live in Germany or German residents, who have no home or travel. I was wondering why there are no international tourists in this hostel. Reception The service is as less as possible. To summarize, this hostel is just a money machine. Additional and hidden costs are not unusual in this hostel. Less service for high price. I had thought to give this place two stars, but my wife insisted I give it only 1. ;) Here's the deal: We were looking for a cheap place to stay in Hamburg on a family vacation since we weren't going to spend a lot of time in the room anyway. The reviews I've read all looked decent so we booked here. Let me say up front that the room itself was clean and we had no major complaints about it. What killed it for us was the "hostel" aspect. I didn't really know what to expect since it's also listed as a "hotel", but it is a major problem if you're not a 20-something there to party hard. Take these things into consideration: 1) This place is packed with young people up for a weekend of partying. 2) If you end up with your windows facing away from the wind and have a room on the upper stories, you're going to sweat. You can only crack the windows, and airflow sucks. There is NO AIR CONDITIONING. Cracking your window only makes a slight difference. But if you crack your window... 3) You will be miserable from the noise. Our room was on the 8th floor, and there's a bar on the 9th floor roof which was partying hard until 3 in the morning. You have a choice between not getting any sleep due to the noise or sweating to death. 4) So you think that you can get some sleep after the party on the 9th floor shuts down? WRONG. The noise from drunks at street-level will keep the noise going until 6 or 7 in the morning. 5) Did I mention we were on the 8th floor? There are TWO elevators for a hotel that is huge and packed with people. 6) Parking is not provided and you'll have to find a place somewhere, probably by a paid parking meter. A couple of mitigating things are that the location is good with easy access to the U/S Bahn and the personnel is friendly. read more
