The hotel is very dated; light pine furniture and brown fabric/paint as far as the eye can see! The room was actually very clean and tidy (with an updated bathroom) but the room felt like it needed a decor facelift. 3.5 stars. The restaurant was awful! 2.5 stars at most! The selection is very limited and the food was stone cold. I mentioned the temperature and they reheated the same plate ... It came back to the table overcooked and flavorless. *I did have a very lovely waiter though who was courteous, apologetic for the food, and brought me a dessert on the house and tried to make things right (the lemon pie was to die for!) * :) I would not recommend this hotel overall for quality/price/local authenticity. If you need a place to stay - it's not the end of the world but if you do stay, please brave the crazy parking situation and eat in the centre of Varese!

Pretty grounds (even has a few tortoises in the back). Excellent restaurant that locals frequent, with a changing menu that reflects the seasons. This is not a sterile cookie-cutter chain hotel. It is a nice intro to Italian style hotels without it being too rustic. no pool though.

We stayed here recently for 3 nights while visiting friends in a neighboring town. The front desk…read morestaff was very friendly and accommodating. The young girl at breakfast was a delight! And the breakfast selection was better than expected. The downside: the A/C was not able to be turned on in our room so it was quite uncomfortable sleeping. We think the daily maid service only included making the bed (sheets did not appear to be changed) and we never got fresh towels. The tiny bar of soap was stuck to the sink every afternoon when we returned so we don't think she cleaned the bathroom. We weren't messy so it was ok but we were rather disappointed. I left a tip the first 2 days (hoping service might improve), but alas, she did not earn a final few euros from me. The location is great, especially if you party late at night because it is party time just outside the front entry. (We did not...)
