He has great ideas and isn't afraid to tell you if something you want to do isn't necessarily worth the expense (which we very much appreciated). They delivered high-quality work that leveraged their knowledge and expertise to ensure our new space was functional and beautiful. Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with. Martin did a wonderful job, completing various projects around our house. He replaced and painted…read morethe bi-fold doors in the laundry room. The area around the furnace room door needed some repair, and Martin replaced a few wooden boards surrounding it. He also painted the boards to match the original color. The lock to the front door had gone through a few mishaps, and was hanging by a thread. We asked Martin if he could replace it with a touch screen lock system. He took his time completing this task; we could not be any happier with our new system. He replaced the dining room chandelier, and fans in both the family room and bed room. As for outside the house, he was able to fix a few fence panels in the backyard. His work is neat, detailed, and he gets it done in a timely manner. We also want to point out that Martin is very punctual, always a bonus! His rates are very reasonably priced. He is friendly, professional, and overall has a nice demeanor. They also removed the wallpaper from our bedroom, repainted it, and added a new chair rail. It was a bit of a tricky job due to the trim being arched, which meant it had to be traced and cut appropriately. I had the pleasure of contacting David, whom I asked several questions of how he would go about the process and I felt very comfortable with everything he walked through. He scheduled the work for a couple weeks out, text notifications let me know when he would be arriving and he was able to complete everything within a few hours. David cut the replacement beautifully using PVC so there is no maintenance on it in the future and caulked / sealed up all points of exposure to rain. He was very efficient, kind, and answered all the questions I had since I'm learning to do these kinds of tasks on my own. The pricing was extremely competitive and there's no question that I'll have David back pretty soon for other jobs around my home that I'm not comfortable handling.
