I had a nail emergency that required professional care and expertise. I closed my thumb nail in the car door a few months ago which lead to severe damage, discoloration and splitting. I searched high and low throughout Queens and LI for a professional salon. My Yelp research lead me here. While in Long Island running errands, I stopped in. I read another review posted by a woman who had a illness that impacted the appearance of her nails. The salon was able to fix it and did a Silk Wrap on each nail followed by a Gel powder manicure for her. Her nails looked great. Wendy took me for a 4:30 appointment and she was so kind and welcoming. I also met the pleasant owner Cheong. I explained my situation and asked their opinion on acrylic nails or wrapping. My thumb nail was almost nonexistent. Wendy and Cheong recommended silk wrapping the nail and doing a gel powder Manicure on my natural nails. I decided on the French Gel powder. Wendy worked her magic and created a new thumb nail out of silk. There was a weekly special on the Gel Powder for $35.00. The salon is very modern and clean. They have a cute fish tank in front and several Buddha statues. Love the earth tones and comfortable chairs. Cheong offered everyone a nice fluffy pillow for their back. Grace did my gel powder manicure and she was very sweet and explained everything. The end result was perfectly polished nails. When she was done she gave a great complimentary back massage. This studio was very much up there, as comments from past goers are saying. I definitely can see why it is loved so much. I went with my friend today, unsure how it would go. I received a good service, but I feel the girl I had was just a bit too young. Why: She had started cutting the dried skin on the side of my toes BEFORE placing my feet in the water... which most know is not the way since then the skin is too hard and you don't get everything out. The workers are very sweet, and lovely to talk with. They make sure they do the work you need, all you have to do is say what you would like and how. Just be sure you have your fingers/toes wet first, before asking them to start cutting "into your problem". Waxing for eyebrows is also great--so happy! Just be sure ALL you hair is out of the way before they start...I noticed I had small pieces of wax in my hair on the way home. But, there was no listed price, and I was charged $40. Manicure wasn't TERRIBLE, but it wasn't great either. A lot of "glue" was left under my nails and on the sides. The paint job was fine. Not happy. The ladies are nice and know their colors, but my powder nail tips came out horrid. Pedicure came out very nice, but my finger nails look terrible. I literally had to come home to file them into shape myself bc they're all different shapes (width, squared, rounded). To top it all off, I have chunks of glue under every nail. I did give feedback while there, but I realized quickly that it was pointless. I wasn't too happy when I left, but was even more angry when I saw my nails in natural light. Also, I got there before 2pm, and their sign says 15% before 2pm, and they didn't honor it bc all she said was "no more". As a child I had an illness which caused nail dystrophy. Being self conscious about it, I've always had my nails done by salons most of my life. I came in and asked for UV gel nails and a pedicure. It took 3 hours, Mary cut me on 2 of my fingers and then asked me what happened! The nails are unusually thick and lumpy. It took 3 hours and I felt like they were in a rush. I decided to come here because of all of the great reviews on yelp but they are really misleading. I was ranting and raving about this place until today. They rushed me out of there today 15 minutes prior to their closing time. I usually don't bitch or get upset when it comes to closing time because I understand the desire to leave work but, I was simply drying my nails when I was rushed out, they could've given me 10 more minutes or so to completely dry my nails. The girl who did my nails today didn't offer me the spa treatment for my pedicure like they usually do. She scrubbed my feet hurriedly and was done with my pedicure in about 5 minutes or so. No time really spent on my feet and I still have dead skin on my feet. When she got to my nails she pulled the skin so hard it hurt, I had to pull my hands back from her. Big NOPE. $95 plus tip for a pedicure and simple powder manicure that takes two and a half hours? Absolutely not. The pedicure was fine; she could have been a bit cleaner and used a wet towel instead of paper towels but I can look past it. I've watched my powder manicures get done for the past 3 years so I know what to expect. The first nail she did she had to immediately acetone soak off and redo because she was clearly learning on the job how to do a basic ombré. Not only that, she did a very lazy shaping job when I asked for coffin shape she barely did it. You would think she was being precise bc it took her over an hour of the manicure alone but half the time was her filing down the powder she made so thick, reapplying and refilling. She applied the white powder that's transparent several times after doing my colored powder which is why it came out so thick. Considering the fact that she doesn't know the proper way, It doesn't look ugly and could have been worse, but I'm definitely going to fix it at my regular place which means I wasted my money here. read more

I went to get my first powder gel manicure while in the area. This place has no frills and might be a turn off for people who are used to the day spa decorations. They accommodated me immediately. When I asked which brand of powder they used they said SNS but I saw no SNS letters anywhere. Either way the end product was meticulous (my cuticles get nasty and the skin around my nails get calloused easily) which is a lot more I can say for many other salons. I don't know how this place has 5 stars and I'm not one of those overly picky people but I expect to at least pay what is posted on their price list but I'll get to that. I was in a tight spot since my usual place is not open on Sundays and this happened to be on my way home. I had a job interview the next day and would not have had time to go to my usual place. So I took a shot ... and boy did I regret it. I will say that the woman who did my nails the 1st time (yes, the 1st time around because they had to be re-done!) was nice enough but she clearly did not have enough experience doing color gel manicures let alone french color gel. While she was working on my nails I was looking at the price list and noticed they do eyebrow tinting and the price posted said $10. I told the woman doing my nails (didn't get her name - she had bangs) that I was interested. After my nails were "done" it was time to do my eyebrows. The woman who tinted my eyebrows definitely knew what she was doing and I was satisfied with how my eyebrows came out (which is why I gave them the 1 star). Once they were done I showed my nails to this woman and pointed out the very obvious smudges and rough spot on the surface and the fact that they looked dull and not shiny like freshly painted nails should look. She agreed they needed to be redone and redid them herself. At this point it was close to closing time so I really did appreciate her taking the time to redo them because she didn't rush too much. Then it came time to pay, they charged me $40 for french color gel (which I knew going in and since they did redo them I was fine with) and $20 for the eyebrow tinting, NOT the posted $10 price. Now while I was sitting there for all that time, because in the end I spent close to 2 hours there, I did notice signs stating that due to some article in the NY times they were raising their prices. Ok. No problem but if you're raising your prices take down your old ones. Why should I have to assume that the prices posted are incorrect? Not only incorrect but double? This is really terrible customer service. When I pointed out their mistake and showed her where it said $10 on their price list all she said was "oh, that's wrong - it's $20" and stared at me blankly. Really? Don't get me wrong, I realize it's only $10 more but as the customer I should know going in what I'm expected to pay after everything is said and done. I will not be returning to this nail salon and recommend to others, If you want to give them a try, make sure you know up front what everything costs. Super disappointed. read more
