So, it was a beach day today. After the beach we went to the only nearby grocery I knew of. My wife…read morewent in and was looking for anything worth eating and filling. While she was inside I noticed a window at the far end of the building with a sign that simply read "TAKE OUT ONLY". I thought if I went to the window, she would come out with a second order of whatever they had. We she emerged with chips and cookies. I asked about the take out and she said there was nothing inside and she purposely looked for ready to eat food. I was delighted when the lady at the window said she sold fried chicken and potato wedges. I thought a 6 piece would fill us up and was surprised with the size and quality. Particularly after a recent bad super oily bucket from KFC. The chicken here was large breast, thigh and legs. We sat in the parking lot until it was all gone. I'll be sure to drop in again to this hidden little gem of a Take out.

The Atlantic Superstore is one of the two major grocery stores in Liverpool (the other is Sobeys)…read more It's the newer of the two and it has an NSLC (liquor store) attached. It is located in the newer developed area by the Best Western Hotel. Outside of Atlantic Canada, the store is called The Real Canadian Superstore, which is kind of a funny name, but coming from Ontario, that's what I know it as, lol. They are owned by Loblaws and they sell President's Choice and No Name products. I didn't really see anything there that was different from my local Superstore at home, which was kind of disappointing for me because when I'm away from home I like to browse supermarkets for local and regional products. I guess The Superstore is very corporate and all stores are pretty much the same. So from a tourist point of view, I was disappointed, but if I was a local living in Liverpool, I think I would love the Superstore because it's big, bright, and modern looking, and prices are good. Lots of free parking on site.

What I liked about this Sobeys when I visited was that they had some regional and local products that can't be found at my Sobeys back home (I'm from Ontario). I saw some local sodas, and their prepared food section had lobster sandwiches (they were $7.99 and weren't great, but hey it was something different, lol). The store itself is not as bright or modern looking as the Atlantic Superstore across the street, but as a tourist, I liked that they had some local products, while The Superstore just carried the same stuff that my Superstore at home carries. Lots of free parking.

Vainly searching for help to find an item and then rude service at deli counter…read more Searching for a sushi mat, I looked in vain for an associate, finally finding somone at the next Deli meat counter. It was 12:45 and the whole section of the store seemed empty of staff. The associate came back to the counter and there was only one other customer who seemed to be browsing the selections. I said, " I have a quick question " Do you have any sushi mats?" Her counter was just opposite a sushi supply section I had already searched. Despite this she said an abrupt "I don't know but she was here first" in a rude way. I was just looking to have a question answered and didn't think I should wait through a whole slicing meat order first. This person is not an asset to your business but you need to train your staff better and have a policy of asking staff to contact a floor person to come and help when necessary rather than rudely brushing them off. I left the store angry and highly doubt I will be back despite holding credit and loyalty cards from Superstore.

I dunno, but congratulations you nailed it. These women do not greet you, they make you feel like going to their register is a horrible thing to do to them. It used to be the company store for Scotia Trawler, and catered both for the provisioning of the fishing boats and the needs of the families at home. It's got an adequate selection for its size, although it's a little light on speciality or high end items, which is understandable. As a place to get staples, it's wonderful. Foodland is associated with Sobeys, so it carries the Our Compliments line of house brand products, and it also gives Air Miles, which I love.
